Fahknir, my last play group got me a Phyrexian Sol Ring Alter for my birthday last year. I never bothered to upload images, but I think I should. Thanks for showing me the proxy though!

Odric_Magnusson, I like to think of "good" and "decent" in relative terms - it's all in the eye of the beholder. I learned a lot about myself as a deck builder when constructing my love letter to New Phyrexia - when I have a vision for something, I try my best to make it work - hammering a square peg into a round hole no matter what the cost. Infect is one of my favorite mechanics, unfortunately it's parasitic and fairly weak in my opinion. But since it is highly relevant to the plan Atraxa is from, I just have to make it work for the sake of flavor.

OMG THIS IS SO GOOD

The deck is wonderfully built and is quite powerful

Hey SuckassBolas, its always a pleasure to hear kind words about my deck (and deck page). Thank you! The ability to customize a deck page with CSS is the one feature that makes tappedout the superior choice over other sites in the same category. Sure, they may boast new features or a more intuitive design but they all lack customization. This page is more than just a means for me to organize and update my decklist - it's a presentation of my vision for Atraxa to the world.

I think all of tappedout's contemporaries are archaic no matter what interoperability they may have with EDHREC - or whatever features they boast. To make your deck page your own is the coolest feature above all else - it's like owning an expensive foil print of one of your favorite cards, but it's your deck page.

Mortlocke thanks for the nice words!

Could you please tell me where I can write/embed a CSS code on Tappedout?

Seeing the thing you did really inspired me to customize a deckpage of my own)

Also: are you up for the Jin Gitaxias in Strixhaven? I mean, its only a leak, but im pretty sure it's true since Kaldheim also had a Praetor. I think that every set will have one praetor this year (except D&D and modern horizons and stuff). And jin kinda fits to freecasting and things like dat.

The link to the site if you missed the drop:

(ye im kinda too dumb to make a hyperlink out of this)

SuckassBolas, using CSS on your deckpage is a fairly simple process - the hardest part really, is just doing all the coding. First things first and I need to emphasize this: Using CSS on tappedout is a privilege - not a right. Using code you don't understand, and embedding malicious code is a no no and will likely get you banned outright. Now that the warning is out of the way, here's where you start:

  1. Head on over to the Coding Forum and make a post requesting permissions to use CSS on the site.
  2. In the mean time, head on over to the following tutorial pages by FancyTuesday for more information on how to code on tappedout:
  3. Visit and reach out to the Deck Coder's Alliance. They're a group of users who are custom deck page enthusiasts (like myself). I'd say that's about it for a start. If you ever have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
  4. This is completely optional, but consider becoming a supported for the site. Contributing even a dollar goes a long way. It doesn't prevent you from coding - it's just a nice thing to do for the folks that work so hard to run this site.

As for the potential leaks for Strixhaven, honestly...i'm growing kind of disappointed in Wizards for being unable to keep leaks from happening. But, just so you know - it's against TappedOut policy to post images of, and or discuss leaked cards. I will however to be sure to discuss the card at length in a later update :)

I decided to take my Atraxa deck in the infect direction. I've got four spots spots left for Creatures, but Hand of the Praetors is going in automatically. So three spots left, what Creatures would you put in?

Hey Odric_Magnusson,

It would've been helpful if you left a link to your decklist, but after a bit of clicking I found it. Context is always important if i'm going to make any recommendations. I already left a +1 on your page. I'll post my suggestions on there as well.

I would go with Herald's Horn over the incubator, as it helps you dig and the image of blowing the horn to announce the glory of phyrexia is great! After all, compleation is inevitable!

I've been following this deck for maybe a year or so now, and it's been amazing reading and rereading everything about it. Some day soon, I hope to own a copy for myself to torture my friends!!

About the new Secret Lair you mentioned in your update: The Professor of TCC on youtube did a review of the lair drop. The value of the drop is through the roof (I think the foil version holds $227 or something of value), and it's absolutely worth the buy. You are right however about the OG Norn card. It kinda sucks that the trade you did now has less value. On the brighter side (and if you subscribe to a utilitarian worldview) now tons of more people can get Norn with the special font (I wonder if it's an actual font they made. Like is it consistent with itself? Can I add it to Word?). Maybe that lessens the pain for you a little? I hope so lol. I can't wait to have my own copy of that card

SpecimeN87, I took some time to think on Herald's Horn. While it's an excellent card, Urza's Incubator wins out solely due to the inclusion of the Praetors. less for a high-cmc boardstate warping effect is a significant plus over the upkeep scry + draw effect. I'm currently searching for a way to include both, but I'm at an impasse. I think I will simply wait and see what support gets printed in the future yet to be named return to New Phyrexia set. Hopefully it won't be too long of a wait. In the meantime the next planned upgrade for the deck will be the inclusion of a Cavern of Souls. 20 of the creatures of this deck are of the same tribe, so the inclusion is a no brainer. The only issue is the upcoming release of Crimson Vow/Midnight Hunt. With the return to Innistrad there is a possibility of Cavern of Souls getting a reprint - lowering the cost. Even better it may receive a full art print with awesome art, so there's that as well. The card is in desperate need of a reprint IMO, I for one will be holding my breath during spoiler season.

TTiger97, I'm flattered you follow my deck and I am always happy to see another player willing to take up New Phyerxia's mantle and guide the lost toward compleation lol. The most important lesson this deck has taught me is how to handle becomming archenemy - and how to best practice the rule of cool (Rule 0). Communicating with the table about what nightmares you offer is always important - some folks may want to opt for a different experience or have decks that don't necessarily match in power level - which is always understandable.

I'm still just a little bit salty about the Secret Lair but I do see your point. It's awesome that more players can also become fans of Phyrexia - the one tribe that I believe are the true big bad of magic - not Nicol Bolas, not the Eldrazi. Anyone else who disagrees can totally come at me lol. But I digress, to answer your question - YES! Phyrexian is indeed a complete written and spoken language developed by WotC. It was created as part of the Scars of Mirrodin block. You can hear Phyrexian being spoken during the Scars of Mirrodin release trailer. There is no rosetta stone for understanding the written language - but there has been active efforts for years to decipher the language and there are multiple communities on reddit that provide regular updates on their efforts. With the release of the secret lair, cards that previously only came in English now help provide the much needed samples for translation and reference. I'm sure there is a True Type font for Microsoft Word - I think I downloaded a Phyrexian alphabet pack a few years ago.

GutsOfRivia, appreciate the comment and the compliment. To answer your question this deck is designed for multiple players (a 4 person pod), but can indeed perform in a 1 v 1 game. The only issue is that I believe my deck is illegal for Duel Commander. For example, this deck contains Mox Diamond, Mana Crypt, and Mana Drain - all of which are banned in the format. Thank you again for the compliment - I love these cards as they are all quite special to me. Do you plan on building an EDH infect deck?

You didn't add the strixhaven stadium?

September 26, 2021 5:14 p.m.

Mortlocke says... #16

Calleb,

Thanks for bringing up Strixhaven Stadium. It's a card I've considered in the past, and is worth revisiting. It's initial impression is fairly lack luster - drop mana rock that only generates ? No thanks. However, the alternate "lose-con" ability gives me pause. It can gain counters when I deal combat damage (something this deck likes to do) and has counters that can be proliferated (also something that deck likes to do). Unfortunately the "but" (x loses counters for each creature that deals combat damage to me) makes me hesitant at best to include this card as it encourages my opponents to target and attack me to keep the number of counters below the activation threshold.

Infect decks are weak enough politically, playing a strictly worse mana rock that paints a big target on me will only make things worse. I think this card might perform well in a casual, token focused deck though.

Love the deck mate. Since I first got into MTG Atraxa was a commander I knew I had to have and the Phyrexians and poison were always I play style that I enjoyed. To see all these elements brought together so well brings me joy.

Pinnacle of Compleation and if I had the money to throw around this would be something that I would love to own in paper one day.

Yo yo yo! Both Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant and Tamiyo, Compleated Sage are in. I was also holding out for a Reality Hacker Jin, but the new title was nowhere near as suprising as the Tamiyo reveal. I jumped up and down like a kid at christmas!

I'm working on a Progress Tyrant combo deck, would love any feedback you can provide. :]

Vlasiax, I've been meaning to respond to this comment, but I continually forget to - I absolutely swapped in Breeding Pool. What made me wait for so long was the hope that it might come in foil, I have a magpie brain sometimes.

Hey! Love the deck and am thinking of building it, though I personally care more about efficiency than theme (cutthroat meta). What would you replace Phyrexian Scriptures and Priests of Norn for?

June 25, 2022 7:36 p.m.

Mortlocke says... #21

Sterling0528, thanks for commenting on the page and sharing your thoughts. My logic for running Phyrexian Scriptures is between flavor and having a proliferation target in addition to a semi-one sided boardwipe. But to answer your question there is only one choice for what card I select to replace it: Toxic Deluge. Getting around Indestructible, and not having to wait on the saga to get to II to get your wrath effect already make the previously mentioned a superior choice. Also, the life loss can be somewhat mitigated by Atraxa, Praetors' Voice under the right circumstances. You also reminded me that there was a reprint that has flavor text from Papa Yawgmoth, so I decided to swap in that instance of Toxic Deluge in for Phyrexian Scriptures as it maintains my flavor requirements.

There are however some honorable mentions I thought of in case Deluge isn't to your taste:

  • Culling Ritual in a more competitive meta can do wonders. I've seen this spell ramp a player in excess of 6 or 7 mana on a good turn. Depending on the shifts in my own meta I'm considering running this spell as well.

  • Black Sun's Zenith is a card I find genuinely interesting, one that I experimented with in an earlier iteration of the deck that I think deserves a revisit.

What I would replace Priests of Norn with? No idea. Honestly it's just a placeholder for a better infect creature who will hopefully be printed in the near future. I'm really holding my breath for a for a mono-white color shifted Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon like creature. Given that infect is parasitic, the slot needs to be reserved for an infect creature. On that same note both Grateful Apparition and Spike Weaver are slated to be replaced when better options are printed. My wishlist would be a monowhite creature with infect and proliferate, and another new infect creature that doubles as a stax piece that breaks parity through the proliferation of counters (like Tangle Wire on a body). One can dream though.

What other changes would you make with the deck? Thanks for commenting.

Sterling0528 says... #22

Thank you for the detailed response! I used to have an Atraxa infect deck that also aimed to be maximally ideal within the infect gameplan. I lost the list a long time ago, but it utilized a lot of combat spells like Berserk, Might of Old Krosa, etc. to try to eliminate people as fast as possible. It didn't have a very good win rate, and I think your list is much better!

Scriptures is great if you're gameplan centers on one creature, but I think you need Atraxa and at least 1 creature with infect to start taking people out. You could consider adding Phyresis and/or Grafted Exoskeleton to make Atraxa both your source of infect and proliferation, which makes Scriptures much better. Both also allow you to give your praetors infect if needed. Since you're introducing a new source of infect, you could probably cut Priests of Norn for one. Otherwise, I can't think of anything that could need replacing. Love the list!

Mortlocke says... #23

Sterling0528, it's funny that you mentioned Might of Old Krosa - the earlier iteration of this deck was very much like your Atraxa Infect deck. Did you also run Become Immense, Rancor, and Stonewood Invocation? I had a similar win rate to yours - my game plan was just "make infect creatures go brrrrr". I assure you it took a lot of trial and error to make this list to what it is today, thanks for the compliment. The deck has come far, but it's not quite "compleat" yet - I really hope Wizards beefs up Infect with some new creatures that are just absurd.

I really do enjoy scriptures but our discussion has made me revisit it. Also, when I did run Toxic Deluge in an earlier iteration Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant did not exist. Both spells have their strengths, but stand alone Deluge stands to be a bit stronger. I can also potentially "save" more of my own board state if I can get enough +1/+1 counters on creatures. I did use Phyresis in this deck and never found it a worthwhile inclusion - the -1/-1 counters for just infect is just sub-par. I keep an original print Grafted Exoskeleton in foil in my no-trade binder just in case I get the itch to experiment with it again but that itch hasn't come. I honestly think the future (aka WOTC) will provide the solutions I seek for this deck. My vision for Atraxa is so close I can feel it. With the recent narrative of the game shifting to Phyrexians it's only a matter of time.

Do you think Sheoldred will make a return as a new card? What do you think Elesh Norn's new card would do?
