Leaks = Ban

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

Posted on June 15, 2017, 3:33 p.m. by yeaGO

FYI. Please report any leaked images to the contact form and do not participate in discussions on this site that include such leaks.

If you have posted images in any discussion, report them to the contact form immediately so they can be removed, or the whole thread/deck and the poster's account is likely to become forfeited.

In summary:

don't post links and/or text from unofficially leaked cards

Did wizard's give you a warning? Not being snarky, just curious.

June 15, 2017 3:56 p.m.

yeaGO says... #3

They haven't and I'm not eager for them to start, but beyond that its destructive to the game and the brand, which doesn't help anyone.

June 15, 2017 3:59 p.m.

vishnarg says... #4

Why is it so illegal??? I don't wanna get in trouble :(

June 15, 2017 3:59 p.m.

Panda213 says... #5

This seems odd.. the cards are posted on legit spoiler sites and now there's a threat of ban from this site for simply discussing them.. what gives?

June 15, 2017 3:59 p.m.

yeaGO says... #6

If they aren't legit spoilers, then they aren't eligible to be on the site. I don't care where else they might appear.

June 15, 2017 4 p.m. Edited.

Aaahh, I didn't know. Pls don't ban me. I didn't post images.

June 15, 2017 4:05 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #8

Out of curiosity, are you going to set up specific rules, or is it going to be a bit of a blurry line? It could be easy for someone to get banned even if they didn't technically post images or links, etc. Someone could accidentally make a custom card that happened to be exactly like a leaked card, for example - that's obviously unlikely, but feasible with some card design knowledge and a bit of luck. How far back does this extend?

June 15, 2017 4:23 p.m.

Panda213 says... #9

Has this always been a rule on here or is this new? .. asking for a friend

June 15, 2017 4:23 p.m.

I totally understand the logic behind this decision, I apologize for taking part in the commenting, Ixalan just has me REALLY has me excited now.

I can see how knowing the state of standard too far in advance could really cause problems with the value of cards, and how people plan to build standard decks right now.

Not something I gave much thought till I saw the warning.

June 15, 2017 4:24 p.m.

yeaGO says... #11

Always been a rule. I have clarified it in the spoilers section. I'm shocked that people suddenly need to be told that this sort of thing isn't allowed here.

Site content, including custom cards, is currently being audited. I would suggest reporting instances of leaks to the contact form before the audit finds it for you.

June 15, 2017 4:26 p.m.

vishnarg says... #12

This reminds me of the good old days when all the New Phyrexia cards got leaked like 4 months too early... man those were the days.

June 15, 2017 4:51 p.m.

StopShot says... #13

You can't stop me OP, the player base needs to know these leaks, so I'm posting them here for everyone to see!!

(Please don't ban me, it's joke...)

June 15, 2017 5:18 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #14

At the same time, some people don't visit this website every day. If they visited one day and found their account forfeited for no apparent reason (as a result of this pretty sudden cleanup), and they never had a chance to report what they'd posted, it seems a little unfair. Maybe thread/image removals and more explicit warnings in the future would be best course of action on this occasion? Not that I'm the one to make these decisions.

Zaueski says... #15

yeaGO: Is the Hour of Devastation "leaks" okay or would you prefer me to take those down? I saw the Ixalon spoilers but didn't post them because it just seemed in bad taste. If you want me to take down the pictures for Hour until Monday I'll do it tho.

June 15, 2017 5:43 p.m.

OneItsStarted says... #16

Is it okay if I say "implied leak" and build a commander deck around a leaked card without referencing any spoiled images or even saying any part of the spoiled card?

June 15, 2017 5:50 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #17

Say, I just realised I've never heard of the contact form and couldn't find anything about it. What is it?

June 15, 2017 5:55 p.m.

yeaGO says... #18

CTRL+F "contact"

June 15, 2017 5:58 p.m.

------ says... #19

So it's ok to leak hour of devastation but leaking the next set 'damages the game'? how and in what way exactly? Makes no sense at all.

Except if wotc is threatening you.

And if you'd admit that, they would send hired goons after you.

Let's all just not post Ixalan leaks then if it endangers the site.

I wouldn't want this place to be taken down by wotc.

June 15, 2017 6:15 p.m.

yeaGO says... #20

They haven't sent me anything at all, but we have removed all things not released by them (aka, leaks) that we have found.

June 15, 2017 6:29 p.m.

Winterblast says... #21

What exactly is the problem with the Ixalan spoilers now? Is there a rule for this page that doesn't allow spoilers to be posted (and is this the same for the hour of devastation spoilers as well) or what's the issue? No criticism intended, if you don't want it here it's fine, I just have no idea what this is all about...because...

I've seen the cards are already available for pre-order on magiccardmarket.eu. I mean that's not only pictures, they already have a price and can be put in the shopping cart! It says the item will be sent on 29th September but you can already buy at least 5 of the cards there. Must be sort of official and confirmed spoilers then, otherwise shops wouldn't list the cards yet.

Schuesseled says... #22

Cant say I agree that leaks are bad, but then it's not my forum.

June 15, 2017 6:42 p.m.

yeaGO says... #23

I urge unconvinced parties to research the feud between MTGS and wizards many years ago related to leaked content. That said, this isn't a discussion forum or debate for that topic, so "I don't see the big deal" folks can all kindly move on.

June 15, 2017 6:50 p.m.

Panda213 says... #24

No need to be Shocked.. It's just that I've been on this site for years now and have seen leaks or possible leaks (sometimes it's just not even a real card) posted here and yet nothing like this has ever happened.. which is why I asked if this was a new rule. Just seems to be an overreaction is all.. especially considering that almost any other mtg related site/page I frequent has these plastered everywhere. But hey, as Schuesseled said, not my forum.

yeaGO: Will action be taken for comments/discussions for past leaks (even the C17 and HOU leaks, which people from the community already discussed heavily), or will they be safe? I don't want to be banned for my past comments regarding the leaks. :/

June 15, 2017 6:57 p.m.

Crayfish says... #26

I've used alters and custom cards in my decks before, does this affect those? I don't claim they are leaks, or real cards at all. I would hate for my account to be slapped with a suspension for it. I'm pretty sure most of them are private anyways. Thanks.

June 15, 2017 6:59 p.m.

yeaGO says... #27

The past is the past, don't worry about that. I'm only worried about current (and future) leaks

June 15, 2017 7 p.m.

yeaGO says... #28

Crayfish no, only illegal/unofficial leaks.

June 15, 2017 7:14 p.m.

TMBRLZ says... #29

yeaGO - When you say official does that mean Wizards sponsored spoilers and leaks only or can we share off spoilers sites like mythicspoiler?

Further reading what spoilers are there - I may have answered that question myself...

But can we reference the site in discussion or do you prefer us to stay as sober as possible?

Thanks in advance.

June 15, 2017 9:54 p.m.

clayperce says... #30

TMBRLZ,
Along those lines, I really like MTGsalvation's spoiler page, because you can toggle the "Include Unconfirmed" box. Or not.

June 15, 2017 9:59 p.m.

yeaGO says... #31

The behavior I was seeing earlier was a no-name account linking to pictures of sheets of spoiled images, and when I deleted that post, other people restored those links in a new thread and other discussions. This site is not to be used to drive traffic to such leaks. Of course you're free to discuss such things, and I leave all that up to your discretion, but hyper-links to or copied description of leaked content is not allowed.

greyninja says... #32

When Kozilek, the Great Distortion was leaked, that was an absolute shit-show. Everybody had theories and contradicting theories that all ran rampant.

Wizards will give you the f@#&ing information when they're ready!!! Imagine putting years of blood, sweat and tears into a project; just for some knucklehead to take shitty photos on their phone and leak it to the world. It's not like you're getting eternal glory out of these leaks. You can't tell anyone it was you because wotc will shred you a new one!

You could argue that it may be "vital" for tcg stores and pro players so they can have an edge on the competition. Many stores probably pay big money to attain leaks early. But that is wizards' intellectual property. They own it. End of story.

TMBRLZ says... #33

The thought of LGS paying for leaks seems hilarious to me.

June 16, 2017 1:44 p.m.

If you are banned are ur decks automatically deleted? (just wondering)

June 16, 2017 1:56 p.m.

clayperce says... #35

TMBRLZ,
Not an LGS, but a big store ... maybe. There were actually rumors swirling around last year (example article here) about exactly that: Stores benefiting from inside information about the Eternal Masters set. I can't see how there'd be any real payoff for info about a normal set though.

If where posting a link from another site why would wotc come after this site and not the site with the leaks on it? It's like cleaning up water on the floor while it's still spilling on the floor.

June 16, 2017 2:43 p.m.

shadow63 says... #37

Why don't you do a user poll and see how people feel about this rule. The rule is just silly. The leaks are on other sites people will talk about them on those other sites and in person why not let them talk about them here? I know I'm excited about the cards I'm sure most of the users and even the admins that made rule are excited about the leaks. And are talking about them amongst themselves. This is a magic related site we should talk about all things related to the game

June 16, 2017 3:20 p.m.

vishnarg says... #39

@shadow63 The rules are the rules, there's a reason they are in place. No poll is necessary. The owner of the site doesn't want this anywhere on it, and so it won't be. That's how this works.

June 16, 2017 3:21 p.m.

shadow63 says... #40

vishnarg maybe the owner should listen to the sites users I don't seem to be the only one that disagrees with the rule

June 16, 2017 3:23 p.m.

vishnarg says... #41

Well the thing is it's not really a matter of what you disagree with or not. There are legal ramifications to allowing unofficial leaks to remain on this website. I'm sure everyone here would love if this wasn't the case, but as of right now there is no argument to be made, there are none of these spoilers allowed, and that's the end of the discussion. If it bothers you that much, use a different site.

June 16, 2017 3:30 p.m.

clayperce says... #42

shadow63,
Seriously, you need to actually read the rules. We can talk about stuff. What we CANNOT do is include images or descriptions/stats of the cards, or links to a site that has them. That drives ad revenue to those sites, and we -- as a site -- don't want any part of that. If you can't live with that, you probably need to stick to reddit.

June 16, 2017 3:31 p.m.

shadow63 says... #43

vishnarg wotc would go after the sites hosting the pics not this site. and ive never herd of a site getting taken down for having leaks up.

clayperce i know im not the only one that thinks the rule is pointless so its not what we ant as a website. its what you want and the admins. but not everyone and thats why i said to do a poll

June 16, 2017 3:40 p.m.

Winterblast says... #44

Can anyone clarify when exactly a spoiler is ok and when it's not? Don't spoilers always show up when someone accidentally finds a new card that shouldn't have been there yet? I mean it feels like it's early for discovering cards of a fall set now but haven't the hour of devastation and commander 2017 spoilers happend the same way with someone getting their hands on a future card and spreading the images until it's been confirmed that the cards are real?

What about the few XLN cards that are already available for pre-order in shops now? Are these confirmed or also not yet?

June 16, 2017 3:45 p.m.

This is a community, but it's also a private site. Although we do often make choices based on what users would like to see, the administration is not democratic and reserves the right to make choices based on criteria beyond public opinion.

As I mentioned earlier in various threads, leaks are harmful to the game. We have chosen not to support or endorse the spread or discussion of these leaks for precisely this reason. You're welcome to have a different opinion on what should be allowed, but this is our decision and we ask that you respect (or at least follow) it. WOTC puts a great deal of time and effort into structuring this game to create not just new and exciting cards but an experience that players can fully enjoy. Leaks undo that work and degrade that experience and the effort invested in creating it.

June 16, 2017 3:52 p.m.

clayperce says... #46

Winterblast,
Here's the rule of thumb I use personally:

  • Spoiler = Any card (or art, or plot point, or whatever) that's been officially acknowledged or released by Wizards.
  • Leak = Everything else.

To keep myself honest on cards, I use the MTGsalvation spoiler page, with the "Include Unconfirmed" block unchecked.

CChaos says... #47

Can we still talk about leaks (not post pics or links) anywhere on the site which includes mentioning the state of which the leak occured?

EditNvm i just found the ixalan spoiler (no leak) topic.

June 16, 2017 5:02 p.m. Edited.

Panda213 says... #48

shadow63 I completely agree with you. 110%.

Zaueski says... #49

If all of you want to talk about the leaks so badly find a Discord or Reddit and join that. The admins said no so you should respect that. This is a great site and I would hate to see anything happen to it because you guys couldn't bear to be so inconvenienced as to sign up for a Reddit

June 16, 2017 5:11 p.m.

shadow63 says... #50

Zaueski like I.said before wotc will go after the sites that ordinal post the leaks. Not this site
