Testing changes from most recent sets: —June 25, 2019

DISCLAIMER: These cards are still within testing phase may be subjected to change, most notably Finale of Promise.

In the last few sets card power level has been high giving the deck a few new pieces, either adding a new layer or being better replacements for current cards within the deck:

Addition of:

New Lands: Add more consistency within the Manabase making sure we can get our colours more consistently, as well as card advantage in a pinch or slow board state. The downside of these lands in the life cost of them making our life outlets less potent.

Dreadhorde Arcanist: A card advantage engine giving us another ritual or tutor in certain cases, still on the fence whether the card is consistent enough but more testing will tell.

Cabal Therapist: Good targets all around, using it to pinch something out of someones hand, or entomb something from ours. The card gives extra use to otherwise dead cards, like kobolds and vampire tokens, adding another layer of synergy to the deck.

Talisman of Hierarchy: Decent mana rock, might be cut later if it doesn't perform better than other one for now.

Changeling Outcast & Vampire of the Dire Moon: Triggers Edgar, can be cast off of Cavern of Souls and can't be blocked or will kill whatever it is blocking. They seems like a fine addition to my collection.

Scheming Symmetry: Yikes... Another tutor, just don't feed people wins, it goes well with draw effects.

Finale of Promise: This card is interesting, not sure how I feel on it, especially castiblity but has 1 less cmc than Yawgmoth's Will so i'll give it a whirl...

Removal of:

Above cards were cut as they are specific utility cards, with the reduction of Breakfast hulk within the general meta and the relevance of these cards in general are in question.

Quick reply to Bonus Round:

"I have tested it a bit, the only deck I have seen bonus round work in has been Xantcha, which comparatively is a much slower deck. This is in addition to Edgar being a more creature-based deck, and not being able to generate red mana as consistently as a 2 colour variant. Much like RiverMayCry , I have not seen it to be that good in Rev’s Jev list and even personally piloting that list it left much to be desired. Petition is also a card I am wanting to avoid including, it has an amazing effect especially coupled with doomsday but within Edgar it has been more so a detriment to the list rather than useful, as it is a lot slower than other cards, especially if spell mastery isn’t active, and it is the 2nd worst card to hit off Naus a bit behind Razaketh at 8."

Iraruel when you run mana vault do not care about the 1 damages it does to you every draw step because you gain a lot of life? do you untap it for 4 ever? how good is it early game vs late game?

I'm a bit late on all of these, but in regards to them:

That vampire is definitely not something we'd look at since it:

Koka glad to hear the deck has been preforming well and recent additions have added another Oathsworn line!

Titus78 when I run mana vault I'm usually not too worried of the life loss, games just don't go on long enough for it to be too relevant, the purpose of it in the deck is to act as a early mana rock for the quick Ad Nauseam or Razaketh, the Foulblooded plays acting as a ritual in most games. If drawn later in the game, or if I have spare mana to untap it, it is usually funneled into Edgar Markov since most players would be low enough to threaten a win through combat damage and/or commander damage. So to sum it up:

  • Enables fast plays allowing us to race other decks

  • Enables commander cast later in the game

  • Life loss is negligible in most games

  • On the odd occasion Spare mana can uptap it

Only the SCD left for the primer now which hopefully will be released soon™

Thanks for the questions! :D
