I still have to update the description In progress deck

Welcome to 2022 magic: the gathering! A wonderful place filled with lands and spells and... DISCARD STRATEGIES! (And Zombies)

Feefifofum, I smell a new brew based around all my past madness brew attempts.

I used to think Jund was the perfect color combo for madness, turns out that Dimir is a much better choice and honestly, cut the chaff, let's just go mono-black! Black has the best madness cards and plenty of ways to discard our way to advantage city. We have some interesting card choices and synergies present to talk about so let's get into it!

We have quite a bit of madness creatures and spells present in this deck build and so in order to cast those spells we need to discard them. But we dont necessarily JUST want to discard them, we should get some meaningful advantage from tossing our creatures away so lets look for some good discard outlets:

  • Liliana of the Veil, a 3 CMC walker with both recursive discard for "zero" mana (we can choose to use the effect on a later turn than the one we play it on), and removal tacked on is nothing but a win.
  • Blood Fountain, the least exciting of the discard outlets but VERY important to the deck, we get three main advantages from blood fountain, namely a good one drop, a one mana rummage effect and least importantly, a four-mana way to get some of our creatures that have either died or been discarded in the pursuit of victory back into our hand.
  • Cryptbreaker, a solid one mana discard outlet that presents a "go wide" gameplan and gives us something to do with cards in hand that we don't necessarily want and keeps us protected while we get to our bigger threats while providing some advantage to get us there.
  • Heir of Falkenrath  , a solid two drop with almost Delver of Secrets   like potential that we can do at any point. A very solid card both defensively and offensively that also provides us with the discard advantage we're looking for.
  • Haunted Dead, a reanimatable creature that both wants to be discarded and lets us discard. not much more to add.
  • Undertaker, no not the pro wrestler, the Jace, Vryn's Prodigy   in black! its effect is similar to Fauna Shaman, but much better in this strategy as it trades one card in our hand for another Street Wraith effect and keeps us churning.

Then we have our madness suite:

  • Kitchen Imp, an aggresively costed and stat'ed 2/2 creature with haste and flying for one mana that gives us a cheap way to take advantage of our discard spells.
  • Call to the Netherworld, a great 0 mana spell that lets us get back either a creature we have discarded or that has died or, more importantly we can get back out Street Wraith and keep drawing cards!
  • Grave Scrabbler, another way to get our creatures back for cheap while providing a 2/2 body

Speaking of scary bodies, how about a main stay of discard decks:

  • Rotting Regisaur, a 7/6 for 3 mana! count me in! for the low-low cost of discarding a card at every upkeep, you get a 7/6 to stare down the opponent with and I mean, come on, who doesn't love that!
  • Necrogoyf, my absolute favorite madness card that seems just incredibly good in this deck. cause our oponents to discard and present a decent threat!

As mentioned before we have two cards that discard straight from the hand:

  • Faerie Macabre a creature we will almost never cast that serves as a free way to discard a card straight from our hand without the need for discard outlets
  • Street Wraith, similar to faerie macabre, we get a free discard without anything else on the field and this time we can draw a card! (really if I had to credit a card as the best in this deck it HAS to be street wraith, she just does so much!)

And to tie our little deck up with a ribbon, we have some interaction spells to keep the opponent quiet while we build our hoard:

The mana base is relatively simple with a few utility lands to help smooth out our draws.

General Thoughts

  • In my opinion in a madness deck Blazing Rootwalla is not that good, it's not good enough of a payoff in a deck that synergizes wholly with discarding things and then casting them

  • Heartless Summoning would be a pretty good fit in this deck if only the madness creatures we were trying to cast had double generic in their madness cost

  • Idk how good Liliana of the Veil is here so I think her staying out of the mix is fine. She seems like she would be exceptional in the list, but I just can't figure out where to put her.

  • Interaction is a great way to keep us in the game, I don't know if the type of interaction in the deck is the type of interaction the deck really wants, maybe more just strict kill spells than Fatal Push and keep that guy in our sb as maybe a 2 of. I do find Bone Shards to be simply too "cute" and durdly when we're really trying to win the game here and we want our discard to be driven, not incidental.

  • This deck is VERY strong against interactive decks like control thanks to how many threats we have, but falls short to most aggro game plans as it just can't get running fast enough.
