Rules Q&A

Upwelling

Enchantment

Mana pools don't empty at the end of phases or turns. (This effect stops mana burn.)

I do miss Mana Burn. Having lost games to Upwelling being disenchanted after losing my mana sink( Killer Bees I think it was).

Made this To Mana or not to Mana while reminiscing a while back. Didn't have the token spawning in my original Citadel of Pain deck, but ran Sphere of Law to offset damage instead.

Making people burn using things like Upwelling and other mana storers was fun. Watching the expectation of a big turn go to I just burnt for half my life... fun times.

Never found the mechanic of it hard to understand or teach. Have had a few games using it recently just to introduce some of my play group to the idea of how we played in "retro" days.

Changes, 18 Jan 2022: -1 Upwelling, +1 War Tax. After some consideration, I think the "mana doesn't empty" effect is something I'm gonna want to keep to myself, rather than give the whole table. So, after acquiring a copy of War Tax, essentially Rite of Replication is taking Upwelling's slot. That is definitely an effect I'm going to want, so I'm probably gonna try to find a slot for Horizon Stone in the near future as well. As far as I know, that and Kruphix, God of Horizons are the only cards that carry that effect, so I'm also probably gonna find some slots for various tutors (Namely Enlightened, Idyllic, and Worldly) that can find those cards - not to mention a variety of other things I might want, depending on game situation - in the near future.

You might want To consider Omnath, Locus of Mana , Upwelling ,or Horizon Stone

Really cool deck! :D By the way, you'll need to cut one card to add Yurlok of the Burnthrash; you have 2 Llanowar Elves at the moment.

I would probably cut Beseech the Queen or replace it for another tutor, since in my opinion its one of the worst tutors in black, even if you can pay with any color... :D

You might also add Upwelling, so mana won't empty during any player's phase. With Upwelling, Feed the Swarm could be also great, either to remove Epwelling later to mana-burn opponents for a lot of damage or to simply remove some annoying enchantments.

Malakir Rebirth  Flip could be also pretty good to protect Yurlok whenever he would die. The downside is he'll etb tapped, but that shouldn't really be such a problem here.

Victory Chimes - mostly a budget option, but works too :D

Helix Pinnacle - another win-con.

Remove-> Replace

Circle of Flame- Cindervines

Upwelling-Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

Guttersnipe-Setessan Champion

Frilled Deathspitter-Eidolon of Blossoms

Underworld Dreams-Read the Bones (3 black pips is a LOT)

Blazing Volley- Electrickery

These cards should help with your draw. Also, some of the cards i took out have little impact on the game.

Haha yes, o m g yes :D I have to say that I really don´t like commander but my group only wants to play that so I made a group hug deck using Selvala, Explorer Returned as my commander. So I play cards like Upwelling, Magus of the Vineyard, Shizuko, Caller of Autumn to give everyone (including me) a ton of mana and play stuff like Curse of the Forsaken and Curse of Vitality on MYSELF so I can see the chaos on the table while people start to either attack me for the life or protect me for all the bonusses I provide. It´s hella fun!

Just for fun I put Helix Pinnacle in my deck but I never played it because I don´t really intend to win, just to have fun watching the others fall into chaos but one match was just hours over hours , nothing happening and I got so pi***d off, that I saved like 120 mana, dropped the Helix and insta-won since I finally wanted it to end!

Everyone was just watching me, jaws dropped while I gathered my cards and said my goodbye´s for the day XD

Speaking of hoarding mana, there's Upwelling. Always a decent include in big mana/X spell decks.
