Blood Celebrant Discussion

I'm curious about the Blood Celebrant, is there a reason for the choice?

not much synergy for a K-rik deck may i suggest you look at mine for some inspiration Black...life matters!. At the very least you MUST run Blood Celebrant as it allows you to pay life for all of your mana costs and not just the black.

Some wholesale changes after a weekend with my buddies, leaning even harder away from storm-style cards and fewer creatures overall:
In: Shadowspear, Essence Harvest, Nyx Lotus, Sangromancer, Extraplanar Lens, Phyrexian Arena, Swiftfoot Boots, Venser's Journal, Soul Channeling, Withering Boon, Tendrils of Corruption, Arcane Signet, and 22 Snow-Covered Swamps
Out: Greed, Blood Celebrant, Demon's Horn, Deathgreeter, Magus of the Coffers, Tendrils of Agony, Vampire Nighthawk, Charcoal Diamond, Haunted Crossroads, Knight of the Ebon Legion, Diabolic Intent, Spawning Pit, Crypt of Agadeem and 21 Swamps

Hey, Vindictive Vampire is a unique aristocrat because it does damage not loss of life to opponents. If you equip/enchant Vindictive with a source of infect then any time it does damage to an opponent that damage is poison counters. With the aristocrat strategy Vindictive with infect can kill your opponents fast and Vindictive is still a good card without infect.
With the $400+ budget consider including more cards that are good with K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth ?
- Bolas's Citadel
- Dark Ritual
- Blood Celebrant : repeatable pay 3 life to make mana.
- Ayara, First of Locthwain
Necropotence is black's best source of repeatable card draw in Commander. Since you start with 40 life then you can put a ton of cards into your hand and if you have Reliquary Tower on the battlefield keep them. Necro is busted with Phyrexian mana because for 6 life you can cast it for free.
Necropotence and Citadel interaction is excellent because you can see the top card of your library with Citadel and choose to activate Necro to remove the land from the top of your library. Then when you hit a nonland card you can cast it for free with life with Citadel. Citadel is also busted with Phyrexian mana because then it's not six mana it's three and 6 life.
Good luck with your deck.

Ha. Well Eldrazi was just a vague way of saying indestructible/pain in the *** cards that i don't want someone to combo off with or whatever. My main point was EXILE. Eldrazi isn't really a problem at all. But when someone gets out that Bribery'd Indestructible Ulamog on turn 2/3, I know Muderous Rider won't do it. Really, it is just about the exile for me.
Nighthaze is another cantrip, and combos well with a bunch of cards really. Repay in Kind for example. If my life is 5 and now everyone else is aswell, then Nighthaze can make sure they can't block(almost guarantee it in a way). Mostly I use it as a cantrip/extra counter/get around a blocker.
Lake of the Dead honestly isn't always that good in this deck at all...When Urborg is out, its good, but when its not, its hard to even play since I run so little swamps. You'd think that'd make me want to cut it..however it has also saved me a few times by giving me extra mana. Its really something I think about cutting, but don't think I will. This is one of the reasons why I put "Plans for this deck: 1) Balance lands." and put it as #1. The lands definitely need some tweaking. LotD is awesome at times, other times, its a dead card in your hand. We'll see how things turn out after I re-do the lands.
Repay in Kind was a card I thought was way too expensive/not good enough for competitive. It is easily countered and Imp's Mischief is one way of stopping that. I've thought about running Boseiju, Who Shelters All , but it is slow and I hate wasting 3 life. Eating away even more at my life total seems bad...which makes it even worse. Back on subject, Repay in Kind surprised me. It is one of those cards that will run the game out of nowhere. It is more of a mid-late game card for when people have tried to win but have been stopped numerous times. Blood Celebrant Greed etc. can all drain my life to a low enough number...then I can cast GARY or Extort a few spells to finish the table...Even if the game doesnt end, its a good feeling when it does resolve. Pontiff of Blight has been a card that was(is currently in my "sideboard") and it works even better to extort and win the game. Repay in Kind is another reason why Bontu's Monument is in the deck. Usually depending on the board state, If i have a creature or two to play, I'd use as much as life to get me as low as possible(5 starting life, 5 generic mana+ 4 life brings me down to 1 life...Now that everyone is at 1 life, I play a single creature to win the game.)
Also, Repay in Kind makes me think of another card. It is hilarious when it resolves and I have Exquisite Blood ! Exquisite Blood is another card I don't see too many K'rrik players using. The Sanguine Bond combo is of course a game winner, but that isn't even what i usually use it for. It's a great feeling when another play loses life to Mana Crypt or gets swung at and loses 10 life etc. All that life will go to me...even if I did nothing to deserve it. It can make you a slight target, but usually it isn't the scariest thing at the table since it is only gaining life and there is usually a scarier permanent/player(like K'rrik himself!)

king-saproling- I'm so glad you like the deck! It's one of my favorites to play and I appreciate the suggestions.
Herald of Leshrac is one I've not heard of, and I like it a lot for disrupting opponents and gaining free mana! If your playgroup is cool with you thieving lands, go for it.
Marsh Flitter is a token generator and a free sac outlet. Huh, I'll keep an eye on it for future.
Grinning Ignus only works at sorcery speed and returns itself to our hand, which we don't want. I like where your head is at for mana generation, though.
Carnival of Souls is a fascinating and risky way to squeeze in more flips. It does put restriction on our timing as we have to use the mana when it is created, and is a nonbo with our infinites, as they often involve putting infinite creatures into play, which would drain us at the same rate as our opponents. I think you could try it and it would be a coin flip whether it won or lost you individual games just by itself.
Braid of Fire , Black Market , Imperial Recruiter , Mana Echoes , and Teferi's Puzzle Box are all cards I have considered playing, and would certainly be reasonable inclusions! I have not included them because I don't currently own them and they are expensive.
Mindmoil would not be a good inclusion because we don't want to play spells from our hand if we can at all avoid it. It does allow us to stack the bottom of our library, but it's 5 mana do nothing, and scry to the bottom if we have spare mana after that.
Vessel of Endless Rest seems unimpactful for 3 mana and we have creatures and artifacts that do the same thing repeatably, which is what we're looking for to win.
Junktroller is great for recursion, but unfortunately it taps to activate, making it hard to go infinite. Spending the mana to activate Epitaph Golem or Reito Lantern is honestly just more reliable and abusable than tapping, as we do not run untappers.
K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth is a spicy include, though I have chosen not to do so because he only gets pumped off of casting, and doesn't contribute to a combo. He would be useful for getting black creatures out of our hand, and I assume combos with Blood Celebrant , but we have 1 card that performs that combo by itself: Treasonous Ogre .
Blood Artist I've gone back and forth on. It absolutely is worth an include, but I find that we have enough payoffs once infinite is achieved so I replaced it with redundancy in other places, like token generation
Sifter of Skulls has 4 power, which automatically excludes it from this build. It is important to get Grenzo out early to start building the value engine, so we cast him for X=1.
Here is the primer I took my inspiration from. I highly recommend reading it to get the general philosophy and lines of the deck! https://www.mtgnexus.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=22095

This is a really cool deck! What do you think of these? Junktroller , Braid of Fire , Black Market , Thran Turbine , Herald of Leshrac , K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth , Blood Celebrant , Blood Artist , Imperial Recruiter , Cathodion , Grinning Ignus , Mana Echoes , Carnival of Souls , Dross Scorpion , Transmogrifying Licid (jumps on goblin welder to combo with dross scorpion)
