Blood Celebrant Discussion

Stardragon on K'rrik's Pact of Cruelty

multimedia I have been tinkering with adding both Contamination and Bitterblossom for a while now i just can't find cards that i should cut and while I like Bloodghast I feel that i could do without it (maybe I'm wrong). As for Winter Orb if i had more mana rocks/dorks I would consider it. Even though I have phyrexian mana as I only have nine non-land non-one time use ramp cards (Speaking which were's Dark Ritual oops). Caged Sun , Gauntlet of Power , Liliana of the Dark Realms , Crypt Ghast , Blood Celebrant , Sol Ring , Mind Stone , Mana Crypt , Thought Vessel . Ten if you include Bolas's Citadel . And I"m not sure if that's enough (I have a fear of never having enough mana I'd rather mana flood than starve person problem of mine) to run Orb again I may be wrong

multimedia Tyrant-Thanatos thxs for all your ideas im still figuring what to cut for Gravecrawler and Carrion Feeder but i do not understand why both you guys want me to add Blood Celebrant Pay a black mana and one 1 life for a black mana seems to be bed business. I get that it has synergy with Vilis, Broker of Blood but that's 1 card out of 100, if there is any other reasons why I should add him that I'm missing pls let me know

Demarge Thxs for your help as well your right with all the draw power having unlimited hand size is a thing i should of done as well as adding protection to my commander im thinking of thing like Darksteel Plate and Mask of Avacyn as well as making room my Swiftfoot Boots , but I don't know if i can find room my Painter's Servant . Deathgrip is a nice sideboard card but it to situational for the main board.

Hey, saw your forum topic asking for help.

Cards to consider adding that are within the budget here:

Fast mana is great with Krrik because you want quick to play him from the Command Zone. More the better; other ramp to consider adding that's within the budget:

Gravecrawler with Carrion Feeder and Aetherflux Reservoir is a combo to win the game with Reservoir. Feeder because it's a Zombie with Phyrexian mana lets you cast Gravecrawler from your graveyard for 2 life. These two without Reservior have other utility such as adding many counters to Krrik since each time you cast Gravecrawler from your graveyard. Extort ( Pontiff of Blight , Crypt Ghast ) is also good with this Zombie interaction.

Winter Orb because of Phyrexian mana affects you less than opponents. This is vile land disruption. Font of Agonies with Phyrexian mana which can power it both ways getting a lot of counters and letting you destroy a creature for , 2 life. This card can keep your opponents from having a lot creatures on the battlefield.

You're playing a lot of high mana cost creatures which makes fast reanimation ( Entomb , Reanimate ) powerful especially with Vilis and Razaketh. Might even want to consider expanding even more with reanimation. If choosing to attack with Krrik infect is vile. Glistening Oil can be nasty since when a +1/+1 counter is put on him it takes away the -1/-1 counter that Oil puts on him.

Cards to consider cutting:

  • Elixir of Vitality
  • Gate to the Afterlife
  • Golem's Heart
  • Luxa River Shrine
  • Profane Memento
  • Staff of the Death Magus
  • Pristine Talisman
  • Bloodhunter Bat
  • Reaper of Sheoldred
  • Demonlord of Ashmouth
  • Curse of Fool's Wisdom
  • Subversion
  • Noxious Gearhulk
  • Diamond Mare
  • Caged Sun
  • Alhammarret's Archive

These suggested cuts are many cards that can gain you life. I don't think you need this many, it's kind of overkill. Pontiff of Blight , Gray Merchant of Asphodel , Kokusho, the Evening Star , Exquisite Blood and if you choose to add Aetherflux Reservoir are life gaining cards that can also be win conditions. Demon's Horn , Prism Ring , Deathgreeter , Whip of Erebos is a lot of additional cards for life gain. Fast mana is important, and it's missing here. I think it can improve your deck more than other cards that can gain you life. Good luck with your deck.

Blood Celebrant : Pay 3 life: get mana.

Vilis, Broker of Blood : Draw cards for playing cards with K'rrik or Citadel, etc.

Transcendence can combo with Sanguine Bond and ways for you to gain life or lose life which then makes opponents lose life with Transcendence. Blood Celebrant , one mana creature who for one mana can pay its ability cost while making you lose life. You pay life with Celebrant this causes Transcendence to gain you life, which causes Bond to make opponents lose life.

You're definitely gunna want Blood Celebrant and a Sensei's Divining Top in this. I've brewed up a fairly focused version of him if you want to check it out for some ideas.

Hey, saw your forum topic asking for help.

Cards to consider cutting to make 100:

In your forum topic you said you're not worried about reducing the high avg. CMC by cutting high CMC creatures because you can pay Phyrexian mana to reduce their cost. This is true to some degree, but you're not always in every game going to have Krrik on the battlefield, access to Phyrexian mana, and the times when this happens then having a lower avg. CMC will allow you to actually play Magic.

The other problem is why play worse high CMC creatures then Vilis, Broker of Blood , Pontiff of Blight , Sheoldred, Whispering One or Reiver Demon ? There's no reason to jam a bunch of other high CMC creatures just because you can. These creatures especially the interaction of Vilis, Pontiff with Krrik are better than all the other high CMC creatures who are within the budget here. You would rather draw them then the others therefore make it easier to draw them and don't include lots of other high CMC creatures?

Pontiff of Blight giving extort to all creatures you control is good especially if you're playing a life gain strategy. Extort can be paid for with Phyrexian mana, that's what makes it busted. Each extort trigger can be paid with 2 life, but if you have three opponents you gain 3 life for each trigger, you gain 1 life per opponents who loss life. This means you extort for free and also gain 1 life after each trigger. Even if you only have two opponents you're still getting to extort for free because of Phyrexian mana.

Before you can do anything with Krrik and Phyrexian mana you have to get him on the battlefield and this means getting four mana (colorless or black). First priority for upgrades to consider is adding more early game ramp that's within the budget:

The strength of Krrik is Phyrexian mana, but to take advantage of this you want lots of other one mana cards. When you play Krrik you want to right away start giving him counters:

Cremate, Wisps, Tainted are not usually playable cards, but with Krrik they are because they're free to cast and most draw a card. For one mana or free Symmetry can get you Necropotence into your hand.

Two drops are also good, not as good as one drops, but still good value with Phyrexian mana:

You could fit Demonic Tutor and Diabolic Intent in here if you wanted by cutting some cards that are by no means as powerful as either because these tutors can get you Necropotence , Bolas's Citadel or Aetherflux Reservoir ; all more impactful cards/game winning cards. Consider cutting these cards to add Demonic/Intent? Most of these cards are high mana cost redundancy which are not needed:

I offer more advice if you would like. Good luck with your deck.

Hey man! This guy looks like an interesting commander... Here're some suggestions. Feel free to ignore any or all of them.

  1. Blood Celebrant : I don't know how important this is, but being able to pay three life for a generic mana seems pretty good. This means you can use phyrexian mana in order to cast your artifacts like Prism Ring .

  2. From a perspective with zero experience with your general, repeatable life-gain seems really good. I approve of your extort stuff; consider running Twilight Prophet . Your current average CMC is 4.34, which means it's usually gonna do a little more than a bolt and gain you that much life, while building card-advantage.

  3. Life may get tight, so Toxic Deluge is going to have an unusually high cost. I still think it's good and that you should run it, but consider Dead of Winter and all Snow-Covered Swamp s as well. The cost on that would be lower, as it doesn't cause you to lose life, which you use to cast spells.

  4. Dark Petition is a good tutor to consider. I think it's better than Cruel Tutor , assuming you don't want to run Vampiric Tutor (which is better yet).

  5. Mana Vault , Mana Crypt , Charcoal Diamond , Thought Vessel , Mind Stone , Prismatic Lens , Jet Medallion and Coldsteel Heart are all worth considering. The two-mana rocks will allow you to cast your general turn-three, which enables your deck.

  6. A reanimation package is something to think about, especially with concern to recurring your Kokusho, the Evening Star . Entomb / Buried Alive paired with Animate Dead , Dance of the Dead , Necromancy , Reanimate or even straight-up Zombify is a great way to recur threats for cheap, or Entomb them and then reanimate them.

  7. Speaking of reanimation, Vilis, Broker of Blood is an EXCELLENT reanimation target for this deck.

Right. That's all I got. Good luck!
