Fervent Champion

Creature — Human Knight

First strike, haste

Whenever Fervent Champion attacks, another target attacking Knight you control gets +1/+0 until end of turn.

Equip abilities you activate that target Fervent Champion cost less to activate.

Thank you windwolf1978! I completely agree that having more creatures with haste would help speed things up. I had considered Fervent Champion and Monastery Swiftspear for this deck, but I didn’t feel like either one was a solid fit.

I’ve seen a lot of people use Robber of the Rich in red decks like this, but I’m not sure if casting my opponents cards would necessarily benefit me in any way. What do you think about Robber, and do you have any other haste creatures you’d suggest?

wideline1414 well I do need to update the description again, but that's not what I'm going for, this is deck is focused on equipping Fervent Champion, and Novice Knight with Colossus Hammer to swing for some big damage. Auriok Steelshaper is a back up option, when the Colossus Hammer fails, I can equip Auriok Steelshaper with something like Sunforger, or Plate Armor(which is why I haven't removed it from the deck yet) so he can buff Puresteel Paladin, and Esper Sentinel allowing me to hopefully finish off my opponent.

So I'm just trying to work with better back up options just in case Colossus Hammer fails. I also might add Memnite because it is a 0 cost creature making it a lot easier and faster to use Colossus Hammer. But who knows, I will definitely look into more and different equipment though!

Sticky Fingers is a no-no because it ramps Slicer's controller, not the Aura's controller.

The Goblins... I've considered them, but I don't have that many disposable artifacts? Just going with honest-ish Underworld Breach to get stuff back.

Yeah Fervent Champion is a nice backup commander over Armory Automaton

Oh yea, $-wise apparitions are better than solitudes for sure. I haven't playtested too much with Marchs, but being able to blink a Solitude (even without Ephemerates) is just so efficient. It's good to have another ETB payoff with all the blink in the deck.

As for not being able to be tutored, I am not saying to take out the apparitions, they're still great for a tutor in a pinch so I would leave them in.

My interpretation of going from to means we want to maximize Imperial Recruiter's use without leaving the deck less powerful if we never draw our recruiters (aka not having other good ETBs to pair with the blink). I also use Fervent Champion to take advantage of free sword equip or actually realistic kaldra equip but that's just me

Metroid_Hybrid - I know you said you had not updated this in years meaning you likley do not care to much about it any more but just two other thoughts. I noted you are mono white, if you stay with pure white may be worth adding in a few copies of Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. If you wanted to be frisky, you could add a splash of red for Fervent Champion. He sticks to your human knight theme, has first strike to hit off Kwende, could attach any of the equipment you are running for free, and more!

9-lives For Maddening Cacophony, the kicker cost is in addition to the regular mana cost, not instead of. It costs to mill half, not .

For the Slither Blade vs. Fervent Champion, I think the haste and free equip are the most important parts. With four mana out, you can cast the Sword and the Champion, immediately equip the Champion, and attack. If you use Slither Blade, you cast both, you can't attach the Sword, and you have to wait until next turn to progress while you're tapped out. In sequential turns, you can T1 Champion and attack, T2 whatever, T3 Sword, equip and attack. With Slither Blade, the sequence is T1 Blade, T2 whatever, T3 Sword, T4 equip and attack. Slither Blade might be more reliable, but Champion is much faster.

Hastapasta Do you have space in your mana base for Field of Ruin as another guaranteed setup for Archive Trap?

Milling is your win condition, no? Perhaps Traumatize, Maddening Cacophony, and Fractured Sanity? Maddening Cacophony is incredibly good, milling half all of the time, and only costs 4 MV. The next best is Traumatize. Maybe remove Fervent Champion and Sword of Body and Mind? These two depend on you dealing damage to the player, which is not guaranteed, so I recommend something like Slither Blade with it if you really want to use it, and also this card would give you a consistent damage of 1 each turn if not removed. I understand that you want to use Fervent Champion's ability to equip. It would only cost 2 to equip it, and you're already having to pay 3 for it to ETB. Plus you might not draw this particular combination of cards that often. If you really want to deal damage in a mill deck, I recommend Vantress Gargoyle. Also, the card Fervent Champion requires you to splash red. Best to keep to 2 colors of black and blue and splash green for Assassin's Trophy, as I see that's useful for Archive Trap. I think paying the 2 mana for the Sword of Body and Mind to make a deck that isn't too mixed up is best, and Slither Blade is the best modern 1 drop that is unblockable, which when you use Sword of Body and Mind, damage is going to go to be surely directly to the player. If you have the 3 mana to pay for ETB the equipment, you'll have enough mana for its equip next turn, especially considering that Sword of Body and Mind is generic mana cost.
