Turned out to be a solid night to play Mono-Black again after taking a break from my Mardu Merriment deck that I have been playing lately over the past few weeks. I feel like I could've gone 4-0, but it came down who ending up going first in the Dimir match up.

  • Bant Control (W 2-1)
  • Dimir Control (L 1-2)
  • Selesnya Enchantments (W 2-1)
  • Abzan Midrange (W 2-0)

@Quadsimotto, thanks for the upvote and comment.

Hah, the only reason I have Doom Whisperers is due to me pulling them from packs and originally running Liliana's Contract for a win-con. Necrotic Wound was in the first draft and build of this deck. It just ended up being very inconsistent, the Undergrowth mechanic requires A LOT of creatures and cards that put your library into your graveyard quickly to take advantage of it like Stitcher's Supplier. I may revisit it in the future, but for now Fungal Infection and Vicious Offering have been very good and consistent for me.

Hey hydrothermia!

Love this deck, awesome synergy, I'm doing an Abzan version of this, Abzan Aristrocrats. Midnight Reaper is so strong with this mechanic and I think I will be adding it. Just a little nervous about pinging myself so frequently. I had some difficulty with draw and Costly Plunder seemed to be my answer. How has your experience been with damage from Midnight Reaper . I also like Rite of Belzenlok which has done well for me, why did you remove it out of curiosity? +1

Thanks for the upvote and comment, Siisyphus.

Midnight Reaper can put you in precarious position if you're not careful. Part of the reason I use cards like Moment of Craving , Vicious Rumors and Vraska's Contempt they give me a little bit of life gain to help offset the life loss from Reaper triggers, Arguel's Blood Fast and Doom Whisperer. The main reason I ended up dropping Rite of Belzenlok is that I didn't need to rely on the tokens for payments on playing Demon of Catastrophes and Plaguecrafter (When is was main board.) or to sate the Demon token each turn.

having a second look at this through all the updated changes and what not. A great card with arguels blood fast is Font of Agonies Synergy with the fast makes paying that life good for card draw and powering removal at a one drop spot. Also fantastic with the whisperer.

Quadsimotto, I've had a couple of conversations at my LGS about Font of Agonies and have been unsure about using it. I have pulled a couple of copies from packs, so I can play test via psychically. (I don't have the wild cards on Arena to add those at the moment, though.) They would likely replace Fungal Infection if it ends up being more consistent. That would give me other options to use the from Priest of Forgotten Gods.

She works beautifully with the skeleton and or gutterbones. Sac em to her and either put the skeleton back on the BF tapped or return the gutterbones to your hand. I have a Mono black I plan to spend some money on to make for arena when I get back to the USA. It has a very similar feel to this build though it is almost entirely aggro and very little control or spells other than creatures at all. The priest is a superstar. I expect the card to go up in value from where it currently is.

I like this Mono attempt, tried for a more Aggro Style Version with my Black Judith, what‘s your oppinion on my Build? Feedback appreciated!

Nice deck with very good results in Arena. I've reached twice diamond with it although I made a little adjustments. I traded the 2x Agadeem's Awakening  Flip and 1x Tymaret, Chosen from Death for 3x Feed the Swarm to get rid of those pesky enchantments and it works wonders.

@Epetecan That's actually a good call on your part for Feed the Swarm, though to a degree I hate parting with Agadeem's Awakening  Flip. I did alter the deck by cutting Whisper Squad and brought in Foulmire Knight for another card draw option as well as mainboarding Cling to Dust. Feed the Swarm goes to my sideboard and I've added a couple of Massacre Wurms for a catch all since Witch's Vengeance only covers tribal decks.

Glad I found this deck.

Hey, nice budget start.

Consider more consistency? There's not a card here that's being played as a 4 of (four copies of the card) most are being played as 3 ofs. I suggest playing a few cards as 4 ofs especially the two drops. Build a core of cards you always want to draw and play them as 4 ofs. Start with Skeleton as a 4 of, it's the creature you want to draw every game since it's the enabler for all the creature sac. Consider Dusk Legion Zealot and Seekers' Squire as the other two drops? The nice thing about Zealot is it draws you a card when it ETB. You get value from it before you want to sac it. Squire can help to make land drops, gives you value when it ETB. Consider Demon as a 4 of? It's the payoff for playing sac, you want to consistently draw one every game along with Skeleton. Consider Midnight Reaper? Being able to draw a card after you sac a creature is good. Reaper himself can draw when he dies which means you can get value from only him if you sac him.

Consider moving two cards from the sideboard into the main deck: Plaguecrafter and Vicious Offering? Both are strong cards with the theme of creature sac especially Plaguecrafter.

After all my suggestions consider these additions:

  • 4x Zealot
  • 3x Squire
  • 4x Plaguecrafter
  • 3x Reaper
  • 2x more Demon of Cat
  • 1x more Skeleton
  • 4x Offering

Consider these cuts:

  • 3x Knight (move to sideboard)
  • 3x Duress (move to sideboard)
  • 3x Diregraf
  • 3x Baron
  • 2x Contract
  • 3x Hunger
  • 2x Belzenlok (move to sideboard)
  • 1x Liliana (move to sideboard)

Consider this final example:

  • 4x Skeleton
  • 4x Zealot
  • 3x Squire
  • 4x Plaguecrafter
  • 3x Reaper
  • 4x Demon of Cat
  • 2x Whisperer
  • 4x Offering
  • 3x Infection
  • 2x Blood Fast
  • 2x Rite

  • 24 lands

In this example two drops are the priority because consistently you want to draw and have one of these on the battlefield to sac for Plaguecrafter and Demon. These two creatures are the main payoffs for wanting to sac. I've established a clear core (4x Skeleton, 4x Zealot, 4x Plaguecrafter, 4x Demon and 4x Offering) these are important cards you want to draw for the strategy they're either good sac fodder or are a sac outlet. Both Zealot and Reaper draw cards that's very helpful.

Good luck with your deck.

@multimedia, Thanks for the feedback. I actually had Midnight Reaper in the original build. It has managed to kill me a few times was the reason I pulled back on it. Liliana's Contract was just the gimmick I wanted to play with, and I agree it's mostly a dead card, so it does need to get cut for that reason. I just have the tendency to hang onto a card longer than I should. I'm actually currently short a Plaguecrafter and Vicious Offering, I probably have the latter, but will have to sift through my Dominaria commons again.

I like this. Other than the whisperer its really well put together under a budget. For this particular deck I think Necrotic Wound may be a better choice for removal than the vicious offering. You have seven sac outlets and it appears as though a good deal of creatures will hit your yard. The only worry I have with this deck is the amount of self inflicted damage and life loss. You only have the one card for gaining it back. Which I guess is an eight sac outlet. Perhaps a one drop creature in the mix would be nice. Idk though. Your curve on the removal and duress is your one drop spot.
