This can be a centralised place where most of the discussion around Commander 2015 spoilers takes place.

The Wizards announcement with the release date and more details is here

So here we go:

Another year of commander precons and another year of excitement. What are you looking forward to? What do you hope for? What would you really dislike?

Femme_Fatale says... #1

Or how about "Blade of Text".

Like seriously, I know they have a beginner leading C15, but this just goes to show how much of one when they miss that blatantly obvious wall of reminder text. Text should only be so long (about 3 lines) before it has to be axed.

Remyth says... #3

Femme_Fatale: I don't see it being played much outside of dedicated discard decks.

November 2, 2015 4:31 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #4

Remyth I guess they're just for different decks. Illusory Ambusher is really good in response to an opponent's Blasphemous Act, or just as a combat trick, as opposed to Mulldrifter.

I still prefer it though.

nayrash5 says... #5

So far, that Blade is my favourite card to come out of the set. So many broken possibilities.

November 2, 2015 4:33 p.m.

AngryKitten says... #6

Simic snakes < Golgari snakes :(
rip Ophiomancer and Pharika, God of Affliction

November 2, 2015 4:36 p.m.

Remyth says... #7

DarkLaw: I totally agree that they go in different decks, or at least serve different purposes. Would be fun to abuse it with indestructible or +X toughness and Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind.

November 2, 2015 4:36 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #8

Cool cards so far. Must save money...

November 2, 2015 4:43 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #9

Skullwinder thoughts? Skullwinder can trade well in combat but also allows an opponent to get a card back from a graveyard. Depending on the decks being played, your card added back could be way better than the one they added back.

November 2, 2015 4:46 p.m.

Remyth says... #10

Seems like it could be a fun politics card but not much above that. Eternal Witness is just leagues better.

November 2, 2015 4:52 p.m.

Lhurgyof says... #11

Am I the only person who thinks the simic guy is meh?

I love the flavor, but I'm not too keen on snake tribal.

November 2, 2015 5:18 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #12

Lhurgyof - Maybe he's not for you, and that's ok. He appeals to a very specific niche that has missed a commander for some time now. He can still be played in a Tempo style deck, which is probably all he really needs.

November 2, 2015 5:24 p.m.

Lhurgyof says... #13

True enough. But for his ability, I've always just ran Sun Quan or Thassa.

I guess we've just been spoiled with Edric as far as UG commanders go.

November 2, 2015 5:27 p.m.

Remyth says... #14

JWiley129: Indeed. I think he may become a pretty decent voltron commander. It won't take much to make him lethal. The only target he needs for his ability to be good is himself. Plenty of ways to protect him in U/G as well.

November 2, 2015 5:30 p.m.

NarejED says... #15

I can't wait to start brewing around Mizzix. I'm thinking a Melek-like deck that focuses on on extra turns and X draw and burn spells would be best curving out at Time Stretch or Enter the Infinite. The x cost spells would ensure his experience counter curve stays nice and clean.

November 2, 2015 5:45 p.m.

NixTheThird says... #16

Remember that the Simic snake is the secondary commander, meaning snakes or/and unblockable is just a subtheme of the deck. So hopefully the main concept of the deck will be more flexible.

Regarding Skullwinder: Giving someone else a card for Eternal Witness mana? So now I have to check graveyards to see whos got weaker stuff and decide who I want to piss off by not giving them the effect... no, no no. Deathtouch at least is interesting, as it keeps any fatty at bay, but no... no. After I swap out the forests and swamps for full art lands, this is already on the short list of things to swap out.

Unless the main commander has some 'when a player removes a card from a graveyard, good thing happens' ability... then it'll stay.

Which, actually, sounds like it could be an amazing ability. Delve, graveyard hate, recursion... >.> now im going off topic

JWiley129 says... #17

If you go here you can flip through the names of the Decks as well as see who the last two Commanders are: Ezuri, Claw of Progress and Meren of Clan Nel Toth.

Description: SWELL THE HOST

Ezuri, Claw of Progress once led a resistance against the Phyrexians but now he seeks to extend their gift of perfection to his former allies. As more creatures join his mighty host, he infuses them with ever greater power

Description: PLUNDER THE GRAVES

Meren of Clan Nel Toth draws on the corpses of mighty creatures to serve as her minions. The more creatures die, the faster the fallen return to fight on her behalf, so she freely sacrifices the living to make room for the dead.

November 2, 2015 5:47 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #18

We also have all the new names here.

  • Arjun, The Shifting Flame ( Legendary Sphinx)
  • Anya, Merciless Angel ( Legendary Angel)
  • Karlov of the Ghost Council ( Legendary Spirit)
November 2, 2015 5:51 p.m.

-Fulcrum says... #19

A Karlov? Interesting. It might be typical of me, but I'm most looking forward to the BG deck.

November 2, 2015 5:55 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #20

Super interesting for the lore that Ezuri has been compleated.

So... Karlov? A relative to Teysa Karlov?

November 2, 2015 6:05 p.m. Edited.

beakedbard says... #21

So Ezuri is Phyrexian now? I wonder what that will do to his mechanic I'm guessing he'll move away from elf tribal stuff now. Some form of proliferate on a commander? I can only wish. The wording on both looks very long from the blurred image of it hopefully that means interesting abilities.

November 2, 2015 6:23 p.m.

AwesomeSean says... #22

Wait, when did Ezuri become a phyrexian? Where does that leave Melira? Also what plane is the B/G commander from?

November 2, 2015 6:28 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #23

AwesomeSean - If you click the link in my comment, you'll see that Meren is from Alara, formerly Jund. The plane breakdown is as follows:

  • Theros: 2
  • Ravnica: 3
  • Kamigawa: 1
  • New Phyrexia: 1
  • Alara: 1
  • Unknown: 2

Note how none of the legendaries are from Zendikar or Innistrad. It's as is if they plan this ahead. :p

November 2, 2015 6:33 p.m.

subrosian says... #24

The BG commander is from Alara if I'm not mistaken. Jund, specifically.

November 2, 2015 6:42 p.m.

subrosian says... #25

Derp.

November 2, 2015 6:43 p.m.

UGAslime says... #26

Hey guys the Izzet commander Mizzix of the Izmagnus, He's referenced in an unchartered realms from May called Project Lightning bug. Here: http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/uncharted-realms/project-lightning-bug-2015-05-2 I didnt know if anyone had seen this but it is really interesting

November 2, 2015 6:53 p.m.

CuteSnail says... #27

Playtests show that Kaseto is broke in a voltron build.

November 2, 2015 7:05 p.m.

NixTheThird says... #28

They hype train finally crushed me with the descriptions of the u/g and b/g decks.

November 2, 2015 7:28 p.m.

swkelly89 says... #29

the BG commander, MAZIREK, is from ravnica

November 2, 2015 7:32 p.m.

EndStepTop says... #30

Double post. Oops!

November 2, 2015 7:34 p.m. Edited.

EndStepTop says... #31

Except where wizards posted about her being from Alara and having a feud with the Jund Shard.

November 2, 2015 7:34 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #32

Gspot - Here is the text from Wizards website: "Meren seeks vengeance on her clanand all of the Jund shard of Alara by animating the corpses of the mighty dragons that rule her home shard in order to claim it as her own. She draws power from death itself, so the sooner her minions fall, the faster they rise again to fight her battles."

It sounds like she's from Jund but doesn't like how it is now. And so she wants to dominate it through the power of death.

November 2, 2015 7:38 p.m.

swkelly89 says... #33

i was referring to Mazirek being from ravnica, the other BG commander. not Meren

November 2, 2015 8:03 p.m.

AwesomeSean says... #34

JWiley129 Thanks and my bad on me, I just glossed over where it said she's Meren of Clan Nel Toth and haven't read or heard what plane that's associated with.

November 2, 2015 8:50 p.m.

mpeach1 says... #35

Pretty excited for these. Have been wanting to get back into edh, think this will be as good as start as any

November 2, 2015 9:30 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #36

mpeach1 - These are my go-to products for introducing new people to the format. Especially with the trend we've got going with playable decks right out of the box. I tend to buy the lot when they come out b/c I just want to have them all. I'm a hopeless brewer in EDH, whether it's good or not.

November 2, 2015 9:35 p.m.

SimicPower says... #37

Gruss029 comment 177: Master of Cruelties actually does work with Blade of Selves.

From Master of Cruelties's official rulings:

4/15/2013: An ability that triggers when something "attacks and isn't blocked" triggers in the declare blockers step after blockers are declared if (1) that creature is attacking and (2) no creatures are declared to block it. It will trigger even if that creature was put onto the battlefield attacking rather than having been declared as an attacker in the declare attackers step.

November 2, 2015 10:11 p.m.

Lemme just say that I'm totally hyped for a Daxos return. I love that guy.

Other than that, everything looks pretty sweet, except I'm still getting the feeling that the deck is going to be pretty uninteresting. Another legendary angel, yay.

And if they bring back Simic infect with Ezuri, I will cry.

DemonDragonJ says... #39

Wow, these previews are amazing! I definitely am pleased by the great variety among the new generals, and I am ecstatic to see a new creature from Kamigawa! Thank you, WotC! The new Daxcos and Mizzix are very nice, and I am glad to see experience counters being used in a variety of manners!

Ezuri was corrupted! That is so horrible, but I expect that he shall be awesome, nevertheless. I am very fond of Mazirek, and would like to use him in my decks, but I am not certain if I can remove Vulturous Zombie to make room for him.

Thus far, I am very pleased by this set, and shall be awaiting each preview very eagerly.

November 2, 2015 10:51 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #40

So this is unconfirmed, but this might be Ezuri.

November 3, 2015 1:40 a.m.

kanofudo says... #41

Definitely interesting. Gives you some cool deckbuilding restrictions. I think I like him as he puts UG on a different path than the normal combo/control BS

November 3, 2015 1:45 a.m.

CastleSiege says... #42

I'm just glad he doesn't have infect.

November 3, 2015 1:48 a.m.

JWiley129 says... #43

He doesn't have infect, but he certainly helps the Infect deck out. It's not hard to make a ton of 2 power or less creatures in : Avenger of Zendikar, Carrion Call, Acorn Harvest, Chasm Skulker, Cobra Trap, Deranged Hermit, or Fable of Wolf and Owl if you wanna go deep.

November 3, 2015 1:59 a.m.

CastleSiege says... #44

Maybe he'll be the first commander I build around that doesn't happen to be female lol... Zegana, Sheoldred, Titania, Intet, Thassa... >.> It's just a coincidence I swear!

November 3, 2015 2:07 a.m.

CastleSiege says... #45

And to add to your list, let's not forget Hornet Queen.

You're a little late to the party lol. Go back a few posts.

November 3, 2015 2:32 a.m.

Bewmz says... #48

If that's legit what Ezuri does, I'm going to throw together Aluren elf bomb. Cloud of Faeries + Cloudstone Curio + Elvish Visionary until you find your Concordant Crossroads with Ezuri? Not to mention you can run Ezuri, Renegade Leader for the overrun effect and just crash for commander damage. Sure bruh, seems alright.

November 3, 2015 2:34 a.m. Edited.

clayperce says... #49

Derp. Sorry about that JWiley129! I need to learn to hit refresh before posting :-)

November 3, 2015 2:37 a.m.

Also has some shenanigans with Sage of Hours. So, there's that.
