WWYD? DubSeason+ParallelLives

Commander Deck Help forum

Posted on July 13, 2018, 9:14 a.m. by greyninja

Hey All! Looking for help on some decision-making!

I acquired Parallel Lives and Doubling Season for my Nath of the Gilt-Leaf build, but I'm finding the tactics to that deck are just too mean. I'd like to rebuild a deck to utilize those two expensive cards. What Would You Do?

I do not own a Food Chain; which would be an expensive combo piece for prossh and marath. Not necessary, but def makes the deck(s) stronger

I now own a ton of elves due to Nath; which could go great with Tana

I pretty much own all the shock and buddy lands to go with all three builds. No fetches.

Any and all thoughts are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I prefer the Tana build. I think it's just fun to play but I think splashing White is the way to go so you can use Anointed Procession

This is what I built take a look and you see if you're interested in anything like this it's basically made just to double tokens a turn. Also to keep them as small as possible

Double double( Naya tokens)|| partner Commanders

If you are moving away from Nath because mean I don't think that Prossh is a good one to go to... People know he is really strong and they will turn on you first. Even casual builds of him are really strong.

I had a lot of fun with marath, I built an enrage combo deck for him The Druken Enraged. You will be going more token than I did but if you build Marath I would highly recommend including as many mana doublers as possible. It really is the mana hungriest commander I have ever seen, really fun but damn hungry.

Marath can make for a pretty fun enchantress build due to the correct colorings and just how many enchantments can combo with marath (such as those you acquired)

Another really good option that wasn't mentioned is Ghave, Guru of Spores. He is very similar to marath, but with a more beneficial color for commander.

Ive wanted to build Trostani, Selesnya's Voice with PL, DS, PV and AP for awhile now. Blade of Selves could be fun in that deck too...

Ive got news friend you aren't going to be switching to a less mean deck by using Prossh. Or Marath for that matter, as both are extremely powerful commanders that enable crazy combo shenanigans in every build I've ever seen. It sounds like you have intentions to build a more casual deck, but switching to those commanders might not solve the "mean deck" problem.

Baru, Fist of Krosa is my favorite token commander currently. All the deck is filled with are token generating cards and ramp spells. I love playing it personally its quite fun, and it's pretty powerful too. But its gameplan is super fair, and its not likely going to be called mean ever.

My deck:

Baru, Token Fister

1v1 Commander* Rzepkanut

SCORE: 1 | 124 VIEWS | IN 1 FOLDER

Not that I don't love a good mean deck, my Prossh deck is extremely harsh ;)

@Homelessguy forgot about Anointed Procession. I do own that too. When you first mentioned adding white, I thought of Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder. Your style with Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa and going wide looks super fun. +1 for sure

@goblinguiderevealpls LOL also do you find other ppl taking advantage of the dubs?

@DrukenReaps Prossh wouldn't be easy. Either get attacks in early or expect to be controlled out

Marath looks like he/she gobbles up a lot of mana for sure. That's why I figured prossh was neat since the tokens happen even if he's Counterspelled. I have three other edh decks lead by elementals so it would be flavorful there too. I've seen your build before and it's rad. It won't let me upvote a second time ;)

@luther unique idea with the enchantment theme. I'll look through what I have. Uril, the Miststalker would be some inspiration

Ghave, Guru of Spores is cool too. I have a friend where I used to live that ran it for a while. Some of these cards we're talking about weren't even printed then and it was still real good. I have a Doran, the Siege Tower deck for my fiancee and that's where most of my abzan resources lie

@MindAblaze right? Trostani takes out some of the mess with only two colors too. One of the guys in our lgs league ran it a couple games I think. It didn't "combo out" but you'd think it had with the amount of tokens produced

@Rzepkanut you're probably right. Prossh and Marath do paint a giant target on your back. What do you think about the temur idea? I've never seen that pair before, and using Thrasios as a mana dump is very useful in a standoff. He's also like tier 1.5 tho

I am trying to avoid combos for now I think. With multiple other decks that go infinite; this will add some variety. I'll literally disassemble a combo The Locust God deck if I go temur (then maybe build izzet artifacts later with the new commander decks coming). Prossh and Marath would have combos pending Food Chain

Mono green is a new idea. Shamanic Revelation, Regal Force and friends can really keep it rolling. Baru's anthem effect catches people off guard i bet when you dump excessive amounts of lands onto the 'field. Bramble Sovereign is a new addition to the token fleet. Might be worth considering. I'm running it in my Omnath, Locus of Mana deck

Thank you so much everyone for the comments!!! So many things to consider!

Rhys the Redeemed, while not great token generation, he can stack the doubling effect and as a one drop commander he's hard to get rid of
