Not usually a big spender...

Commander Deck Help forum

EDIT: I clearly was too sarcastic or something as multiple responses have been under the impression I'm looking for budget options. I'm looking for non-budget cards not budget cards. That said about all I can realistically manage is $50 per card. So still no ridiculous cards like Gaea's Cradle or Nether Void .

But I've decided that Divine Decree is a deck that I'm willing to throw money into. Kind of like a black hole. I'm not really looking to spend tons of money. I won't get anything over ~$50 but this is a big jump from my normal $10-20 range.

On to the question I suppose. Based off my new found willingness to spend too much on this deck what are some cards I should pick up? Other normal suggestions are still appreciated too. Thanks!

If you are wanting to spend more money I would have it go towards the mana base. Things like the shocklands and also fetchlands while also getting lands like Reflecting Pool, Mana Confluence, etc... because as it stands right now you have none of those things and they really help you out.

I was thinking that is where I would start too.

Godless Shrine, Blood Crypt, Sacred Foundry

Bloodstained Mire, Marsh Flats, Arid Mesa

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Cabal Coffers

Graven Cairns, Fetid Heath, Rugged Prairie

Caves of Koilos, Battlefield Forge, Sulfurous Springs

I don't know any others... Any of these I should leave out? I'm not convinced the Graven Cairns, Fetid Heath, Rugged Prairie are all that good but I guess it is a lot similar to the signets I run now. I don't even know why I don't have the pain lands right now they are not prohibitively costed...

I don't think the Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, and Cabal Coffers are the best decisions because there isn't much payout in a 3 colored deck like this. It's too inconsistent. The filter lands are ok I think they are better than the pains because, well, they don't pain you and can still produce two colors but that's just me. I still like the cards I stated above things like Reflecting Pool, and Mana Confluence, City of Brass, Cascading Cataracts that are good for helping you get any color mana also.

Question: Do you get by well enough with only 33 lands?

I hit most my early drops even with just 33 but then usually get stuck on 6-8 mana. Not all bad but my average CMC could use more lands. Just need to think about what to drop...

I actually have Mana Confluence, City of Brass, Cascading Cataracts around here somewhere. Just took a part a 5 color deck that preformed... poorly to put it nice... I have another 5 color deck in the works but that is ways off so I can just pick up additional copies when I get around to it.

So fetch lands, shock lands, and the above mentioned any color lands. That makes 10 lands. If I drop 3 non-lands bring my total lands to 36 should be good. I think. Then drop hmmm I dunno... ones that come in tapped? or some of the basics? could speed up a bit by dropping tapped lands. more consistency by dropping basics.

Land base should as closely follow this setup:
3 shocks, 3 fetches, 3 check lands, 3 fast lands, 3 Battlefield Forge esque lands, whatever utility lands that you find necessary, and the rest basics. You have an average cmc > 3 (along with your general) so consider 37 lands. One easy budget fix (at a glance) is Demonic Intent > Demonic Tutor.

There are also other certain lackluster cards in your deck that are in ~$10 range that could easily be replaced by... $0.50 cards.

miracleHat Thanks for the run down on lands.

As for budget fixes I have been playing the deck for close to 6 months except for a small interruption where I was silly enough to try out o-kagachi. I already own everything in the deck currently. My interest is in spending more money on it not less. Might replace Diabolic Tutor with Diabolic Intent though. That is a good upgrade but I really like the chandra/liliana art on diabolic tutor...

Oh, I just burned myself. I didn't realize that was modifying the deck above. Then I say budget red splashy stuff

Vampiric Tutor is good.

Damnation is in the budget range thanks to its re-print.

I wouldn't qualify $20 cards as budget though

September 16, 2017 11:31 a.m.

Compared to what is used to be, that is a budget price.

Thanks for the suggestions and thoughts! I haven't made any adjustments on here but I have ordered some cards to upgrade the mana using what was said here as well as what I've seen in more competitive decks. Not that I intend to make this competitive just better than it currently is.
