Hey [user:jcommander], what would you use for a sideboard?

I didn't think about Pact. Unfortunately, that costs money.

4 pyrommancers needed.

Leafbladefighter - Actually, four tends to clog my hand. I've tested a LOT with this, and though I know it seems better, they just end up as Loot fodder or cards I never cast because I don't have enough mana while going off. Two is just right.

OK, I've just seen very successful storm decks with 4-ofs.

Well, this is rather another breed of Storm. Ascension not even required. Merely a bonus. A tasty, tasty bonus! As far as I know, I'm the only one who plays Weirdstorm with any at all.

This deck is awesome! I dealt 50 damage turn 4 with 2 overbuffed Blistercoils ! HAHAHAHAHAHAH This is so mean!

Why, thank you! The most fun is the Turn 2 Grapeshot for lethal, but attacking for 50 doesn't seem half bad, either eheh.

Why do u use Research/Development in here? It has a big purpose in There's the Door! (check it out, great deck too), but here? Your sideboard doesn't have some things that are game-changing.Then, u don't need Breeding Pools(for green sideboard cards there are Paradise Mantles)... I would put Pyroclasm or Ground Rift in sideboard for agro matchups and leave Beast Within and Ancient Grudge. There was also something like 2 mana green instant protection from artifacts draw a card, it would be good against affinity decks :)

Kraljina101 - Well, the thing is, sometimes you don't have the combo. You just don't. So Research lets you have some game against other decks by getting general hate cards. Also, if you fear you might fizzle, reloading a 20-30 library with hate goodies works rather well.

I run Breeding Pool because having six lands that can cast Manamorphose is HUGE. They've saved my ass more than once in dire straits.

Also, Pyroclasm hits my guys, though Ground Rift is interesting. I would think to run that in a Nivmagus Elemental deck, however. Which I might be working on soon (hint hint). Beast Within is an all-star, from the abusive things I've done with it. It blows up Goblin Charbelcher, it makes an extra whatever into a beast, among other things. I also have a fair matchup against Affinity, since I am, quite simply, WAY faster. I certainly understand your concerns, but rest assured, I have chosen these cards with care.

Tel-Jilad Defiance is the card I mentioned earlier. It can be good when you need to get thru or protect from affinity. Also, I don't think you'll get four mana for Empty the Warrens or Talrand, Sky Summoner. Gut Shot is good only if you cast it for 2 life and get that one free mana(note that you don't draw a card, which is a thing here). Everything else is okay.

P.S. Do u have some plans against Living End? It's very frequent matchup nowadays

Kraljina101 - I net mana with a lot of spells? Gitaxian Probe being the least helpful. Manamorphose ups me one, and Cerulean Wisps has some stack trickery. You tap Weird to cast it, untap the Weird (trigger), tap it for mana before Wisps resolves, then untap it as the resolution. Puts you up one. Nifty. Pyromancer Ascension also allows you to go absolutely nuts.

Also, I'm not really worried about Living End; I'm faster, and they can't have cheap removal like Bolt or Path. I feel generally confident in such a matchup. Maybe I'll stuff a singleton Leyline of the Void in the sideboard, if I find it relevant.

I didn't know that about Wisps, so it makes it much better. Then, leave all as it is. Everything is fine. Deck is, as always, great. And this is all of me. I said all I wanted. Bye :)

I run a similar deck, the main difference being that in addition to the Blistercoil Weird I also run 2 Young Pyromancer as an alternate win condition and Serum Powder for free mulligans when I don't draw the combo. I like how you've worked in the 2 Pyromancer Ascension. I was initially skeptical about its place in the Blistercoil Blitz deck, however it looks like you've made it work well with your mana generating cantrips. Nice work! +1 :)

Thank you! I've spent the better part of two years working on it (may we all mourn for Treasure Cruise), and it's just so much fun! I had been thinking about Young Peezy, but he's just a tad on the fragile side, and he comes down either too late or mid-combo. I also used to run Serum Powder, but I've found more cantrips to just be better. The original (as in the actual first, as far as I am aware) Weirdstorm list ran them, but it was also very early in development and mono-blue - it didn't have the great all-stars of Faithless Looting and Ideas Unbound.

Mizzium Skin for protecting the blister?

April 29, 2015 1:33 p.m.

thuzra says... #21

Eh. I like the idea, and I see it implemented to great success, but what I've found to be better (at least by my playstyle) is being more resilient to spot removal by not caring. Go in fast and loose, hope they don't have it. And if they do, I can find another (37 cantrips) easily enough. And I can afford to be more controling, in certain regards, with such spells as Electrolyze. Pyromancer Ascension also lends me resilience, in this regard.

If you were to side protection against removal Apostle's Blessing would probably be better suited than Mizzium Skin because it also can protect your Paradise Mantle, however I only personally side it in when I have an opponent who runs a lot of cheap removal like Path to Exile, Lightning Bolt and Terminate.

True, true. Though I prefer my balls-to-the-wall approach to combo decks, rather than the protective, conservative approach.
