Ground Rift

Sorcery

Target creature without flying can't block this turn.

Storm (When you play this spell, copy it for each spell played before it this turn. You may choose new targets for the copies.)

Interesting concept, I'm more familiar with the Gruul version of this deck that uses Ground Rift, Lava Dart, Underworld Breach, and other fun red stuff. The red part of that deck seems really necessary to get the quick combo kills that make Rotpriest worth it. But maybe the control aspect you get from blue ends up being good too. My recs are to add Spellskite, this lets you get double activations off every targeted spell and it protects your priests. I'd also consider Phantasmal Image over Artisan of Forms because Image enters as a priest, while Artisan essentially wastes a trigger in order to do its clone effect. Also since you're in Simic maybe run Growth Spiral over Explore?

Icbrgr on Venerated Rotpriest Combo Discussion

when Venerated Rotpriest was released it definitely raised an eyebrow from me knowing that it was gonna be a deck... and playing on arena its certainly does exist lol

Now that ive been flubbing around on youtube I'm seeing Modern brewers get ahold of it and it really looks scary... essentially gets searched with Summoner's Pact...then storm off with cantrips/cheap spells and then Ground Rift/Grapeshot.

I think what i find most frightening is that traditional removal doenst seem to stop the combo... if you cast Path to Exile or Lightning Bolt on the rotpriest the storm count still resumes and the ability triggeres still.

What do you all think? Is this gonna be a threatening deck or is it just hype?

SuckassBolas, the problem with the toxic mechanic is that it does not support the playstyle of using pump spells and there are not many cards in the current spoilers that I would consider having the power level that is needed for Modern. An interesting thing is that Infect and Toxic both trigger so you could play something like Necrogen Communion, but that card is still weaker than Rancor.
There might evolve a new deck where you mix Infect and Toxic creatures together, but I'm not the best deckbuilder.

Rotpriest looks a little too weak: you usually want to use 2-3 pump spells to win the game, so it would deal 2-3 infect damage and therefore is just another Giant Growth, but people are experimenting to create a storm deck with it using Ground Rift, here is the first list I was able to find.
The Seedcore is just a worse version of Pendelhaven: it does not produce , that is needed for pumpspells and we are already running 4 colourless lands with Inkmoth Nexus.

Maybe some of the Proliferate-Cards and cards where the opponent gets a poison counter might be playable, looking at Infectious Inuiry and Whispers of the Dross.

I'm still happy that the fastlands get reprinted and now can be played in Pioneer and The Mycosynth Gardens will probably become a modern staple.

Hope my 2 Cents are helpful :)

Yes, things like Ancestral Anger would be insane in such a deck. You could include Storm cards like Astral Steel or Ground Rift to quickly maximize on Storm-Kiln Artist/Ral, Storm Conduit type effects. In fact, any Magecraft cards from Strixhaven (Archmage Emeritus comes to mind) will quickly put you over the top.

weird thought,

silverfur + Ground Rift sounds funny.

especially after a giant growth or rancor or two

It seems like your deck would really benefit from running actual Storm cards. Grapeshot in particular seems pretty great. I think basically every storm card in your colours is probably worth playing: Brain Freeze, Empty the Warrens, Ground Rift, Mind's Desire, Volcanic Awakening, Temporal Fissure... Most of these are decent in commander if you can play a few spells before them (which would decks seems built to do).

Test Ground Rift as lumimancer counts copies - can represent a lot of damage in 1 turn. Similar logic might bring Shattering Spree into sideboard tech.

My janky ass is trying to figure out Gigadrowse / Clever Lumimancer as a transformative sideboard for taking turns.

Magecraft triggers with every copy of Grapeshot or Ground Rift , which is going to be interesting. I can't wait to kill with Witherbloom Apprentice / Weather the Storm in limited, but I don't envy constructed players figuring out lumimancer storm.
