I've been trying to make a competitive Lich's Mastery deck for ages. It's been frustrating to say the least, but I'm making some strides thanks to Golgari being so strong in Guilds of Ravnica. I'm uncertain if this has any legs, and/or if this is just a worse version of Golgari Midrange. In this version however, Lich's Mastery makes a lot more sense. Karn, Scion of Urza is good card draw, and in this deck he's very useful. He belongs in Golgari decks, and people are starting to discover his usefulness. Vraska, Golgari Queen is handy here in this deck bc her sacrifice mechanic draws you 2 cards, and gains you the draws you need to get the job done whilst Lich's Mastery is in play. Vraska, Relic Seeker is just simply amazing here too as it makes tokens to sacrifice, and is a solid closer. Carnage Tyrant really is an all-star performer. She's a pretty steep cost though; so its a one copy in this case. Moment of Craving works in conjunction with Lich's Mastery nicely, so I stuck those in. However, swap those out with Plaguecrafter when facing off against control decks. Vivien Reid is entirely a main deck possibility, but I had trouble squeezing her in. She's potent for certain though.

The card that can't really be beaten though is Cleansing Nova which will upend this deck like a nightmare if you have Lich's Mastery out on deck. It's just a fact. I've not figured out any way to make it better other than splash blue and countermagic, but that's really just a horrible idea. Also keep an eye out for Tocatli Honor Guard; it will literally ruin you.

EDIT 1: Ok so I've totally revamped this deck to basically hunker down on explore putting things into the graveyard. It still has a strong bit of removal, as well as using the explore mechanic to fill up your GY instead of leaving things there. You have some recursion, and this should get you to Lich's Mastery and Vraska, Golgari Queen faster. Having said that, I'm gonna try and play this a bit soon. Wildgrowth Walker while Lich's Mastery is in play with explore creatures like Merfolk Branchwalker and Jadelight Ranger are insane. I might try and slot Seekers' Squire in later as well but we'll see. It's hard right now given the slots on deck! If I do add some in, I might cut Karn, Scion of Urza entirely.
