Grozoth Reanimator

The game plan

Reanimate Grozoth with Connive / Concoct, Unburial Rites, or Persist, tutor all 9 drops (4x Connive / Concoct, 4x Grozoth, 1x Iona, Shield of Emeria, 1x Blazing Archon, 1x Void Winnower, 1x Inkwell Leviathan). Pass turn, discard creatures. Proceed to reanimate Iona, Shield of Emeria, Void Winnower, and Blazing Archon to lock opponent out of removal and combat. Reanimate Chancellor of the Annexs and Inkwell Leviathan as attackers. Remember, Grozoth can be transmuted for a Connive / Concoct.

Alternatively, reanimating Iona, Shield of Emeria on her own can be enough to beat some decks.

Plan B consists of the Leveler/Thassa's Oracle combo, which gives the deck a way to win outside of combat. This can be done as early as turn 4 by Persisting Leveler and casting Thassa's Oracle.

Reanimation targets

  • Grozoth: Our primary reanimation target. Grozoth can be transmuted to place it in the graveyard without the use of discard spells, and can be used to tutor up Connive / Concoct. Grozoth serves as a pseudo Griselbrand when it enters the battlefield, drawing up to 11 cards. Main downside is it has defender and cannot block fliers.

  • Iona, Shield of Emeria: Only reanimation target which can't be reanimated with Persist. Iona is used to shut out key combo cards or removal from opponent's decks.

  • Void Winnower: Normally a sideboard card, Void Winnower, when combined with Iona, can shut down most spells from opponent's decks.

  • Inkwell Leviathan: Evasive attacker with protection, used to beatdown opponents after they are locked out.

  • Blazing Archon: A worse Serra's Emissary, but can prevent attack triggers from opponent's Primeval Titan and Archon of Cruelty.

  • Archon of Cruelty: The only reanimation target which doesn't cost 9 mana, Archon of Cruelty is so powerful it is capable of winning games by itself.

  • Chancellor of the Annex: Mainly used to slow down opponents through its passive ability, Chancellor can be reanimated to slow opponents down while we dig for better targets.

Reanimation Spells

Alternate Build: Green Splash

Remove: 4x Chancellor of the Annex, 4x Faithful Mending, 4x Otherworldly Gaze, 1x Teferi, Time Raveler Add: 4x Chancellor of the Tangle, 4x Chart a Course, 4x Titanoth Rex, 1x The Great Henge

This build tries to cast a spell (Unmarked Grave, Titanoth Rex cycle, Chart a Course, Pentad Prism) turn 1 off of Chancellor of the Tangle. Titanoth Rex can put itself in the graveyard and serves as an additional reanimation target, raising the chance of a successful blind Connive / Concoct to ~70%. The Great Henge serves as a tool to bridge the gap when reanimating a turn 2/3 Grozoth. It can be cast for GG and provides the additional mana needed to cast Connive / Concoct.
