Competitive Grixis Control

Standard*

Frostt

Sideboard

Hey all this is a grixis control shell i came up with that i have been topping all our recent standards with i think it has true potential to be up there and thought id share the list with all of you fellow grixis control fans. we use your standard win con for control 4x torrential gearhulk, but i have added in 1 torment of hailfire, 1 scarab god and 1 nicol bolas ALL who have proven their worth throughout my games playing them in all kinds of match ups.

to sideboard for control we simply remove:- 3xmagma spray, 1xsweltering suns & 2xhour of devastaion from main and bring in 2xdispel, 2x jaces defeat, 1x torment of hailfire & 1xdisposess to try and take their gearhulks.

for the energy/midrange creature decks we want to remove:-1xnegate, 1xmagma spray & replace them with the 2x harsh scrutiny from side, however if they are running the energy builds using attune with aether or other powerful sorceries we will also remove 1xsweltering suns & 1xsupreme will to bring in the 2xinvasive surgery from side to intervene with the decks.

aggro decks we want to remove:- 1xNegate and a combination of 2-4 of our other counterspells no more than 1 of each to add the defeats etc we may need depending on the color/ deck we are versing.

I can not express enough how impressed i am with the addition of torment of hailfire & the scarab god as additional win cons, exiling creatures for yourself to use has been amazing and holding the torment until late game until you can guarentee a big board and hand sweep for them to live through it or to simply kill them has been most useful, but i must stress torment of hailfire is definitely best played in the later end of the game as a finisher or way to sweep their hand/board just to survive, theres no point casting it if they have a "chance" at selecting multiple good choices getting to keep themselves cards or a board.

you may ask why i dont have wandering fumerole in the deck or harnessed lightning and the answer is simple, i am control, i do not want tapped lands, i want to avoid them as much as i possibly can and the lands i have chosen seem to be working well enough. also we are not focused around energy, we can get it from glimmers to fuel the 2 hubs but its not necessary, we dont want to rely on that resource, i have found the 3 damage from abrade or the mainboard option to kill artifacts has been much more beneficial. we do run the 2 aether hub however so we do have a sink for the glimmer energy and to fix mana base. however on the odd occasion i have stolen creatures using the scarab god and the aether hub energy has allowed me to use the off grixis color abilities so that mini bonus has been nice but not something to overly concern ones self with.

i have gone with the 2 hour of glory main so i have mainboard exile for big creatures/gods, but more than that it is nice being able to target them from the graveyard using torrential so there are uses and synergy for the card in the main. the best i could suggest is to practice with the deck, get used to the plays etc and try it out, this deck has been an absolute blessing for me that i have designed and as i have said, i have won EVERY event thusfar with the deck which is a few. have any questions, feel free to comment and ill reply as soon as i am able and please like/upvote my deck :D i hope you all enjoy my grixis brew.
