I've been torn between Blightning and Wistful Thinking and to be honest I'm not sure what it should be. I've tried Blightning and it works pretty well, but atm I've been trying Wistful Thinking as it can potentially get more value with the Liliana's Caress and Waste Not

Well you're only losing 1 damage off of Liliana's Caress and with Waste Not, unless they have a hand of nothing but instants and sorceries, them dumping 4 cards could end up being of no benefit to you. Turbo accelerating their goyf and dredge however is always a distinct possibility. Blightning also works pretty well without either enchantment on the field.

I see your point, oh well this is a brew deck so I'll give it a shot :D

Have you considered Kolaghan's Command?

Not yet, it seems really good in the deck now that I think about it thanks.. Just where to put a copy or two into the deck is the real problem, maybe take one Blighting out? What do you think?

I'm a bigger fan of the Command over Blightning. It's one few cards and one fewer damage when it's imitating Blightning, but it's instant speed and has more modes. It can get you back a dead Lavamancer and help you against pesky artifacts in addition to its small Blightning Mode.

More utility over "power", an interesting choice I like it. Also after some more play testing, I did have the problem with a friend's version of a green stompy deck which killed quite quickly if I didn't pull any answers to his creatures. Maybe the command is the answer.

The Rack seems perfect in this deck. I know it used by every discard deck, but I think it could be good. There is also Shrieking Affliction. I personally love Waste Not. I have been tinkering around with metric butt ton of deck that use it, most notably I started playing this deck: http://www.gatheringmagic.com/kevincrimin-09242014-playing-on-a-budget-waste-not-storm/ at my FMN.

Solid suggestions thanks, however one of the previous versions of the deck that I had, had Shrieking Affliction in it (it was more of a burn/discard deck of red/black), but the problem was i died to aggressive decks (the same green stompy deck actually, with Leatherback Baloth, Strangleroot Geist because I wasn't able to race him (creatures can do damage on their own, but my deck requires a combo to do damage). Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome win condition, but if I used those 2 win conditions, the balance of the win conditions to removal to discard would be wonky. Too many win conditions = no answers to creatures, too much removal = not enough damage, and too much discard = too many threats and can't discard fast enough/top decks.

See the rack deck works because you're trying to discard all the cards in hand, and finishing off up with The Rack and Shrieking Affliction. This deck is more of a tempo deck and doesn't necessary want to do that, instead it wants to stall out until i can tempo swing with Waste Not or Liliana's Caress with Burning Inquiry.

Even so, thanks for the great suggestion.

btw the other iterations of the deck were B/R burn/discard, a jund version (with Deathrite Shaman before ban and Abrupt Decay), and one that was in process which was mardu (with Lingering Souls, and Smallpox)

I really like it but is 10 discard spells with 7 enchantments to support it enough discard for how much support you have?

Raven's Crime seems good here.

That's at question that I've always asked myself hazphokksy, is there enough synergy for the deck (aka discard) for the deck or will I just be waiting too long for it. I'm not too sure what iteration of the deck list you saw, but I count 13 (with Sedraxis Specter). I'm just afraid that if I go further with the discard that I'll die to a one drop (which this deck sorta dies to, unless I have Lightning Bolt). I've even considered taken out remands for, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

so far with this deck I've faced with grixis delver, mono green stompy, and B/G infect. The delver matchup was about 50/50 (cause either i just had answers long enough for a tempo swing, or i died to a delver flipped) while the mono green deck was about 20/80 (died to Experiment One, Rancor, and Dryad Militant, as they all go underneath remand and all my discard if I'm on the draw, which this deck is considerably worst imo. Also Strangleroot Geist is troublesome if I don't get something like Grim Lavamancer or Tasigur, the Golden Fang, while Leatherback Baloth need terminates or I'm dead). With the new iteration of this deck, not sure how it is against infect, but with Kolaghan's Command should be easier.

This deck is probably good against control, or slower decks, but currently I don't have a deck to play against who is one.

Also the inclusion of Raven's Crime was one i had considered and originally it was in place of Syphon Life. Not sure what is better, or to put them both in, and take something else out. One is better topdeck then the other, being Syphon Life while the other is a tempo play. Also Murderous Cut, and Electrolyze were in the deck at one point.

Whoops and also to answer your question, if I had enough. I feel like there is enough discard. Just wish Snapcaster Mage were not ridiculously expensive, Dack Fayden was modern legal, and Recoup legal as well.

How would you feel about trading one angler and one lavamancer for Liliana of the Veiland two land for two more discard spells?

May 18, 2015 8:42 a.m.

grimcase21 says... #18

would put her in, in a heartbeat, but she's so expensive XP

hazphokksy says... #19

lol yeah, that's my only issue with her :D

Unless funding is an issue, maybe the funeral charm could be Inquisition of Kozilek?

May 18, 2015 1:42 p.m.

grimcase21 says... #21

It was originally, 3 Thoughtseize and 3 Inquisition of Kozilek, but when I was getting things back from Tasigur, the Golden Fang i found that I got many useless spells late game such as Remand, Thoughtseize, and Inquisition of Kozilek. On the draw it's better, cause I don't lose to some one drop with 1 hp. At least if i get it back it's soft removal/pump/evasion. Going to test it out.
