When nature calls, RUN!

It helps more than you might think!===accordion===panel:IntroductionI have been playing this deck ever since my first Theros sealed event and first time playing Magic (Yes, I'm somewhat new). More recently, however, I have been working on this deck with all of your guys' help to try and make it more competitive, maybe something to bring to an SCG open series Modern event. Gruul is very easy to play, and requires very little though or timing to win the game. This is one of the things I like best about Gruul, and why I was drawn to play it in the first place. Something in my little uneducated mind said "Ooh! Big creatures SMASHING stuff! My perfect cup of tea!" Of course, one cannot just suddenly have a competitive, good deck after a sealed event (which I thought I had at the time). So, I sat down to play some games, and simply had my face smashed in by people playing Urza's Saga and Infect, or Blightsteel Colossus. Here is the culmination and end of my quest to build the decent Gruul ramp deck. Enjoy!===endpanel===panel:How to PlayAs mentioned before, this deck (and most other Gruul) is very easy to play. The goal of this deck is to reduce the opponent's life total from 20 to 0 in one foul swoop. To do this, the deck runs some early game ramp like Joraga Treespeaker and Birds of Paradise. Then, one should be able to get a Primeval Titan or two (or three) out fairly quickly. With the two lands from the Prime Time, fetch Kessig Wolf Run and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. One should then use the lands acquired by Prime Time (s), any lands that were played separately, and any ramping creatures he/she has to pretty mana sink the Kessig Wolf Run(s) onto a Primeval Titan or Arbor Colossus to roll over the opponent's meak defenses with trample.===accordion===panel:Opening HandSo, let's talk opening hand. With this deck, lands will be key. You will definitely want at least three lands, preferably and a . This can be comprised of shock lands and fetch lands however you want, of course. The second thing to worry about is if you have at least one ramp creature and at least one Prime Time. If not, mull. You aren't even losing much with the new Vancouver Mulligan System. Summoner's Pact can also be a good stand-in for a Prime Time, but it is slower and can only be done on turn three or four.===endpanel===endaccordion===endpanel===accordion===panel:CardsAn overview of all cards in the deck (except lands) and a justification for their inclusion:===accordion===panel:RampBirds of ParadiseCourser of KruphixJoraga TreespeakerLotus CobraOracle of Mul DayaNykthos, Shrine to NyxNissa, Vastwood Seer===endpanel===panel:PlaneswalkersDomri Rade
