This is my budget 8-Rack list for Modern. I have been wanting to get involved in local competitions at my LGS and I love the 8-Rack archetype and philosophy. It makes people upset, it wins consistently, and doesn't cost $1000+ to put together (even at full power).

I've done my best to keep the spirit of the full-powered deck here, and as usual, haven't ventured outside of flavour-town (some people run Leyline of Sanctity in a Mono-Black Pox/discard deck, lolwut?).

Here is a list of full-power upgrades:

• Liliana of the Veil is the central pillar of this deck archetype, but puts it out of reach for many players. It replaces and will stack with Necrogen Mists if used in addition to it.

• Replacing several Swamps with Blinkmoth Nexus and/or Mutavault will give much needed attacking power. And Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth will do well against anything that tries to take your Swamps away.

• Thoughtseize is a strictly better upgrade for Duress.

• Inquisition of Kozilek is a strictly better upgrade for Funeral Charm.

• Ensnaring Bridge is another expensive, but essential piece for the full-power version of this deck as it takes control of all creature strategies that could threaten you.

• Fatal Push is a strictly better upgrade for Victim of Night but in all honesty, Victim of Night already does well in the format, as most people don't play 2/3's of those creature-types.

Here is a list of Legacy replacement options:

• Hymn to Tourach is a strictly better upgrade to Wrench Mind.
