Note Steely Resolve is a nombo for lots of things you want to do. You might want to reconsider that card.

Huatli, Dinosaur Knight, Huatli, Radiant Champion, Pounce, Crash the Ramparts, Savage Stomp, Rile, Hunt the Weak, Enter the Unknown, Tilonalli's Crown, Kindred Boon, Majestic Heliopterus, Cacophodon, and lastly Spirit en-Dal all don't work if Steely Resolve is out and you choose dinosaur

an interesting attempt/ build. have you thought of removing the smaller aspects for more solid ramp/ life gain to offset the damage taken early on? check out: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/05-03-18-dinosaur-midrange/ for what im refering to. :)

not a fan of Kinjalli's Sunwing Otepec Huntmaster, Ranging Raptors or Tilonalli's Crown and would rather secure the ramp/ end game dinos

Hey there,

Excellent work on the Uril deck! I run one myself and it's a ton of fun. I gotta say, I love the Bear Umbra + Aggravated Assault; need both to keep the juggle going, but good god that's gotta be fun to pull off.

Anyway, here's a few cards you may want to consider!


These are low cmc cards to help get past creatures to trample right through them.

  2. Gryff's Boon
  3. Giant Spectacle
  4. Shield of the Oversoul
  5. Messenger's Speed
  6. Mob Mentality
  7. Imposing Visage

These I like because they help remove a blocker. Potentially can be chucked considering the amount of evasion and trample, but once and a while someone has something that is worth tapping or preventing from blocking.

Right, so last Saturday I played at my local Standard Showdown for the second time, and the results were a bit better than last time. I meant to post this on the same day, but better late than never, right? I was able to get my hands on the Aether Hubs I sorely needed, and also managed to get a few sideboard cards I was looking for.

Game 1 (U/W Drake Haven: 1-2

Round 1: Although I countered 2 of his Drake Havens, he managed to resolve the other 2, and an early Search for Azcanta  Flip did a lot of work for him. I was eventually overwhelmed by a horde of drakes, while I looked on helplessly with 2 Essence Scatters in hand.Round 2: I sided in the aggressive creatures and combat tricks, and boy, did he NOT expect that. He countered the lone Bloodwater Entity that had been lent to me, but he succumbed to 2 Riddleforms, an Enigma Drake, and a flurry of burn and Invigorated Rampages (I love this card now).Round 3: It was a really close match, but even though I killed off all his drakes and left him at 7 life with a huge Enigma Drake, he resolved a Torrential Gearhulk and crushed me. I wanted to hit myself afterwards when I realized it, but there were several times when I could have scryed with Riddleform and I didn't. I thought I was going to win when I cast Fling at him, but he countered it and the game was his.

Game 2 (Sultai Constrictor): 2-0

Round 1: To be fair, I have to say that he drew only 3 lands, and there was never really a match.Round 2: I sided in the aggro elements to see how they worked in this matchup, and they did well. I used my Cryptic Serpent to block his creatures, and poked away with my flying creatures until his life total was 0.

Game 3 (Esper Gift): 0-2

Round 1: Before this I didn't actually know what this deck was like, how it played, or even what its strategy was. I didn't have much luck with my draws, and a combination of God-Pharaoh's Gift and The Scarab God finished me off. Angel of Invention was a card I had a lot of trouble dealing with; although it hurts, I might have to invest in 2 or 3 Abrades, depending on how popular the deck is.Round 2: This time, I was able to actually do some things, and I left him at 3 life before an Angel of Invention started to apply its lifelink shenanigans, and take me down.

Game 4 (G/R/w Dinos): 0-2

Round 1: I was forced to mulligan down to 4 due to extreme bad luck with my draws (no lands at first, then 5 lands, then none, then one), and I proceeded to draw no lands for the next 6 turns. Once he got his dinos going, I conceded because I knew there was no way I was winning that one.Round 2: There were some fun interactions this time around, and I was able to brickwall a Carnage Tyrant with a cheap Cryptic Serpent, but he managed to go wide with smaller creatures equipped with Tilonalli's Crown.

All in all, I'm not dissatisfied with how I did; I think that I could have won the third game against the Cycling deckif I had remembered to scry with my Riddleform, but I'm not beating myself up about it too much, since it was the first time I was using it. I'm going to try and get some Supreme Wills, as they could make a difference in the late game when I'm depending on my next draw to be good. Abrade and Sweltering Suns would also be cards to purchase, but they're a bit too expensive for my budget.

If you have any ideas on good cards I could add, or ways in which I could change my strategy, they are very welcome! Thank you for reading!

I want to add in a boardwipe like Wrath of God or Planar Cleansing and switch something out for Wakening Sun's Avatar and then I don't have Command Tower or Reliquary Tower in and don't know if they're "required".

Hey, looks good I haven't heard of Gentry before.

Currently there's 20x uncommons which is including 4x Quarry. Tilonalli's Crown is a common it could add more aggro. You can't really take advantage of 1 damage it does to the creature enchanted by it good with enrage, but +3/0 and trample is good for a two mana common. Consider cutting 2x Deathspitter and 2x Companion for 4x Crown?

Shock is a common, 4x of it would be better than Fire and only 2x Strike.

Hey, looks good.

Raptor Hatchling is fine for the combo with Forerunner of the Empire to make a lot of 3/3 Dinos, but this requires an indestructible spell such as Heroic Intervention. If you're not playing the three card combo then I think Hatching is pretty lackluster. Consider cutting it for Drover of the Mighty? Add some ramp and a possible turn three Forerunner or Ripjaw. Drover can also help to cast Siegehorn Ceratops only 6 sources of white in the manabase is low, not enough to consistently cast a turn two Ceratops. I suggest adding Sunpetal Grove.

Tilonalli's Crown can be busted with Siegehorn Ceratops making it alone a 7/4 with trample. It's also pretty good with Ripjaw drawing a card and getting a 7/5 with trample. One or two mana auras are fine they're risky because you can get 2 or 1 by opponent in response to enchanting which will happen some games. The risk in this case is worth it because of the payoff and little mana investment.

This deck looks good but like Orion93 said, there are too many cost reduction creatures in this deck for it to be viable. If I were you I'd keep Kinjalli's Caller and Otepec Huntmaster with 3 of each but get rid of Drover of the Mighty and Knight of the Stampede and replace them with 4 Frilled Deathspitters and 2 Ghalta, Primal Hungers. While Ghalta is an easy choice for dino decks because you can get it out easily on turn 5, if you want to stick with midrange I'd suggest using Etali, Primal Storm instead to help develop an easy card advantage. Cast Out is a good card but I think Ixalan's Binding would fit much better in this deck because it would keep your opponent from casting the same spell you just exiled for a while. Dual Shot and Reckless Rage work really well in this deck with the Enrage mechanic so I'd suggest keeping those in the deck for sure. I'd get rid of Sheltering Light and Heroic Intervention and replace them with 4 Blossoming Defense, one more Reckless Rage, and another Dual Shot because you can use Blossoming Defense for offense too. Now if you want to take the Enrage mechanic to a whole other level you should remove Shake the Foundations and Savage Stomp for 4 Tilonalli's Crowns. It also says you only have 59 cards so you should go ahead and put that 4th Rile from your maybeboard into the mainboard. I know I rambled on for waaaay too long but I hope this helps! also, sorry but they still haven't updated their standard list to include RIX cards so the suggestions for them aren't working
