Blakkhand says... #1

  1. Time Walk easily
  2. Demonic Tutor because of combo
  3. Mind Twist, since it wins games in every format it's legal
  4. Tendrils of Agony because it's one of the better storm spells
  5. Balance, since Banefire is only good supported with infinite mana
  6. Tinker, hands down
  7. This one is impossibly hard, but I gotta say Vindicate
  8. Yawgmoth's Will because it is just ridiculous

KrazyCaley, What's your reasoning for not including Contract from Below here, when it is arguably the most powerful magic card of all time?

@Blakkhand - Banned in every format. I call shenanigans on any ante card, basically.

Rhadamanthus says... #5

  1. Time Walk wins because it's the most powerful sorcery ever printed (and Warp World shouldn't even be in the bracket)
  2. Demonic Tutor wins for sheer power level
  3. Bribery wins because of its rich multiplayer history
  4. Tendrils of Agony wins because winning the game is better than stopping the game
  5. Balance wins because it's the second-most powerful sorcery ever printed
  6. Tinker wins because of its Pro Tour and World Championship record
  7. Wrath of God wins because it's just better
  8. Tooth and Nail wins because it proved the Timmiest of cards can still take down major tournaments

GureiSeion says... #8

  1. Warp World - My Modern Warp deck doesn't bias me at all, I swear! But in all honestly, it is the most chaotic and fun of the two.
  2. Demonic Tutor - Easy tutor trumps ramp in my book.
  3. Bribery - A deck's not quite a box, but I could still get a boat!
  4. Tendrils of Agony - More effort required to be a dick.
  5. Banefire - Sexy finisher.
  6. Tinker - Broken fun. Can also be a boat, I suppose.
  7. Wrath of God - I rely on these too much in my control decks to vote otherwise.
  8. Tooth and Nail - Should be clear by this point that I favor the bigger and "flashier" spells.

apt142 says... #9

  1. Time Walk
  2. Demonic Tutor
  3. Bribery only because Mind Twist will lose you friends.
  4. Armageddon because it is the best thing weenie decks had going for them. It stopped combo/control decks cold. Also we used to scrape the gum off our shoes with tendrils back in the day.
  5. Balance like Armageddon but on crack.
  6. Tinker - 3 mana sac to my Ornithopter for a Blightsteel Colossus? Yes please!
  7. Wrath of God - It just answers more things.
  8. Tooth and Nail - This just appeals to my inner Timmy. Slam down some mana, get some beat sticks. RAWR!
March 15, 2013 4:34 p.m.
  1. Time Walk did you by chance see the amount of text on that other card? who wants to read all that?

  2. Demonic Tutor although rampant growth almost got the nod... so good for ramp decks

  3. Mind Twist go go discard

  4. Armageddon b/c it is iconic! even though it is terrible to play against

  5. Banefire do you see how wordy that other card is? plus banefire is simple effective and elegant. Closes out games like a boss

  6. Maelstrom Pulse so good and made the jund deck work. archetype defining.

  7. Wrath of God staple board wipe card in so many sets... other is situational removal no thanks

  8. Tooth and Nail because just say no to graveyard shenanigans.

  1. Time Walk. Another super strong Power Nine.
  2. Demonic Tutor. See #1.
  3. Mind Twist. Powerful discard.
  4. Armageddon. Shuts down play cold, nice if your own lands happen to be indestrucible.
  5. Balance. The Force is strong with this one.
  6. Tinker. I think this was actually a close matchup, but the effect is undeniable.
  7. Vindicate. THE destroy spell. More finesse than WOG. I like my own creatures, thanks.
  8. Tooth and Nail. We don't need no stinkin' graveyard.

Cdawg44 says... #15

  1. Time Walk no contest
  2. Rampant Growth I just like this low drop ramp card.... gives a mana advantage early on
  3. Bribery "I see your Emrakul, the Aeons Torn.... give me that"
  4. Armageddon no contest
  5. Banefire with it's ability to be un-counterable, it's a game ender
  6. Tinker
  7. Wrath of God super solid board wipe for fairly cheap
  8. Tooth and Nail if you can ramp to it

@DeckBuilder345 - How is Vindicate situational removal? It says "Destroy target Permanent." I guess it's situational because it can't destroy spells on the stack...

==============================================

1) Time Walk

2) Demonic Tutor

3) Mind Twist

4) Armageddon

5) Balance

6) Tinker

7) Wrath of God

8) Yawgmoth's Will

==============================================

As for why I made these choices, I think these are the most powerful of the cards presented. An argument can be made for Vindicate over Wrath of God, and I think Vindicate may be more powerful. But come on, it's Wrath for crying out loud. It's been functionally reprinted like six times, and is one of the most common things you can be doing with four mana.

@GureiSeion - WE'LL TAKE THE BOX. Didn't see that on my last trip through this thread to tally votes. +10 points for that reference.

TridenT says... #19

Well, this one finally has some close choices, even in the higher ranges.

1) Time Walk - Don't get me wrong, this is the brokenest damn spell I can think of for 1U. But Warp World is just so darn chaotic, it definitely merits consideration.
2) Demonic Tutor - I'm not going to lie, I would pick Diabolic Tutor over Rampant Growth here.
14) Bribery - Even the best possible discard spell does nothing to an empty hand.
4) Armageddon - I wish there had been a stronger opponent here. I'm not fond of total board land wipe, be it this, Jokulhaups, or other annihilation spell. But Storm requires very specific sorts of spellcasting speed and capabilities to function well.
12) Banefire - Definitely a close one, but again Balance takes away lands en masse, and this irks me.
6) Tinker all the way, baby.
7) Wrath of God because I'm old school like that.
8) Yawgmoth's Will is the clear winner between these two, I think.

DaShPrime says... #20

  1. Time Walk - Should the Power 9 even be included in these?
  2. Demonic Tutor - Truly disgusting, especially since it's into your hand instead of on top of your library. Extremely tough fight though, Rampant Growth is really painful.
  3. Bribery - Thanks for the Progenitus! Much as I like discard, by the time you get to cast Mind Twist for anything more than X=2, your opponent should already have no hand.
  4. Tendrils of Agony - I'd rather not hurt myself tyvm
  5. Balance - Because I like to play enchantment decks :D
  6. Maelstrom Pulse - Tinker is absolutely broken, and I have good memories of Maelstrom Pulse
  7. Vindicate - See Tendrils of Agony, but really tough fight.
  8. Yawgmoth's Will - No fight

  1. Time Walk, because that's a fair card.
  2. Demonic Tutor is the best black card in the game.
  3. Bribery is fun.
  4. Armageddon is violently mean.
  5. Balance is just silly.
  6. Tinker, because t2 Blightsteel Colossus says hello.
  7. Vindicate because most times spot removal is better.
  8. Yawgmoth's Will is too good.

(1) Warp World's just too silly!

(2) Demonic Tutor's too good.

(3) Bribery is hilarious.

(4) Tendrils of Agony is less unfun.

(5) Banefire is silly!

(6) Maelstrom Pulse is fantastic, and less degenerate.

(7) Wrath of God is more generally useful.

(8) Yawgmoth's Will is less guaranteed to be an auto-win, and can also screw a person over.

  1. Time Walk - extra turns this cheap and this early isn't right
  2. Demonic Tutor - gets whatever you want/need
  3. Bribery - if everybody ran moxen, black lotus, tolarian academy, and dark rituals; I'd give the nod to mind twist. Problem is, mind twist sucks by itself.
  4. Armageddon - shut down the game after you drop a few weenies and your opponent hasn't done anything yet? checkmate!
  5. Balance - it'd only be balanced if you didn't know when it was going to be played ;)
  6. Maelstrom Pulse - tough matchup. tinker is brutal, but maelstrom kills whatever you just fetched, plus the loss of tinker and the sac card.
  7. Wrath of God - wipe out the board right before you drop some fatties
  8. Yawgmoth's Will - reusing all your good cards is way to good

MagnorCriol says... #33

  1. Time Walk (Dammit, I love Warp World, that's just mean)
  2. Demonic Tutor (Because if you need it to, it can just be your Growth for you)
  3. Bribery (Twist is, again, undeniably more powerful, but Bribery is more fun)
  4. Tendrils (Armageddon gets used in too many unfun paths to victory to get my vote here)
  5. Banefire (MY HANDS ARE DRAGONS RAUGHAWRGH)
  6. Tinker
  7. ERROR ERROR COULD NOT DECIDE Eeeurgh. I guess Vindicate's judge foil art is probably my favorite art in Magic so it wins, but...uuuungh
  8. Yawwgy's Will

Time Walk - Obviously

Rampant Growth - Demonic Tutor is a better card (obviously), but Rampant Growth as been playing a very important role in one of my most important deck and I would never change it for anything else. It's only a personal taste.

Mind Twist - Discarding that many cards is always advantageous, while, for example, bribing a creature against an aggro deck is absolutely useless.

Armageddon - This is once again, in my point of view a very easy choice.

Well, this one is really hard and I think there is no real winner. Both are very good in some situations.

I still don't know witch one to choose...

Both very good !

Yawgmoth's Will - Ron Spencer just can't be wrong !!!
