Modern Aggro Mono-Black Zombie

This is a deck that has helped me get into many event top8's. Considering that modern decks tend to be 300+ bucks for top tier decks, this deck is fairly cheap and very powerful.

The main focus of the deck is to play creatures and overwhelm the opponent. Most of the creatures in this deck have some mechanic to return to the battlefield once killed. Within the creatures that can come back from the graveyard (Gravecrawler, Bloodghast, Bloodsoaked Champion, Geralf's Messenger), I'd say that Gravecrawler is the easiest to return since the only requirement to cast it from the graveyard is to have a zombie on the field and there are a total of 16 zombies in the deck. You could say Bloodghast is easier to get back, but relying on top decking a land or having too many lands in hand isn't a good idea. One of the most important creatures in this deck is Geralf's Messenger, this card can easily make your opponent waste two cards to get rid of it while losing four life points. It withstands board wipes and when it returns it gets bigger with a +1/+1 counter. Then we have Plague Belcher, a new inclusion from Amonkhet. This is the biggest creature in the deck. It's a 5/4 with menace, and when it comes in to play you place two -1/-1 counters on a creature you control, but since your creature come back really easily from the graveyard this effect is hardly an issue. Also if you have a Geralf's Messenger in play with a +1/+1 counter you can place the counters from Plague Belcher on to him so it can trigger undying a second time, plus, when another zombie dies while Plague Belcher is in play, each opponent loses one life.

On with the removal, there are two Dismembers, in modern most cards dont have more than 5 toughness, so this should get rid of almost anything. Then we have Gatekeeper of Malakir and Geth's Verdict, both of these are sacrifice effects. I prefer having more Gatekeeper of Malakir s than Geth's Verdict since it's removal on a creature and can be used to block or attack after the sacrifice effect, the good thing about Geth's Verdict is that it's an instant, but I prefer the versatility that Gatekeeper of Malakir offers. The last piece of removal is Fatal Push, since its release it's become a modern staple due to its cost and since creatures in modern tend to be CMC 3 or less.

The last two cards are Sign in Blood and Inquisition of Kozilek. Sign in Blood is the only draw engine this deck has since you're going to be playing with the graveyard also. I wouldn't replace it for any other draw two pay two cards since they mostly cost three and with Sign in Blood you can target your opponent and make him draw two and lose two potentially winning you the game. And lastly, Inquisition of Kozilek, another modern staple, good for getting rid of combo pieces oranything that could be threatning to you.
