ngl this felt like I was writing an essay and i had to explain all my thematic choices. also it was not a good idea to start this 2 hours before it was due, i mean thats literally what my lit teacher tells us not to do. what the heck, why am i still thinking about this, school is out.
mtg literary choices:
Always Watching - +1/1 = pali buff since damage and hp are buffed
Akiri - equipment!, indestructible by unequipping so basically makes a card indestructible for extra mana, sorta like a jugg or an oreo or an ogmur ig.
Akoum Warrior - generic warrior, gets an attack buff so ig pali
Allied Assault - attack buff, pali
Anger of the Gods - 3 damage like an aoe wizard spell
Ardent Electromancer - Generates mana so sorta like a wis+/mana+?
Blazing Volley - weaker wizard aoe spell
Champion's Helm - helm gives indestructible, jugg ig
Cinderclasm - midrange aoe spell
Ephemeral Shields - indestructible, ogmur
Expedition Champion - buff to self again
Helm of the Host - Clone effect so summoner/trickster? tricky to classify
Jeskai Ascendancy - gives a lasting buff like pali
Kaza, Roil Chaser - reduced mana cost = casting spell/gives better mana/wis?
Kykar, Wind's Fury - summoner and you can sacrifice your minions for mana!
Linvala, Shield of Sea Gate - can give team buffs, pali
Moraug, Fury of Akoum - an actual warrior. hear me out. while i do have other warriors in this deck, they give +x/0 which is a DAMAGE buff. this person can attack multiple times aka they have dexterity :brain:
Nadaar, Selfless Paladin - mostly for the dungeon mechanic which i felt made sense
Naru Meha, Master Wizard - gives buff to wizards so is good but also again, more pali effect.
Nimble Trapfinder - unblockable = invis ig
Paladin Class - group buff, pali effect
Power of Fire - gives a card the ability to ping like a wiz?
Prodigal Pyromancer - ping like a wiz
Prodigal Sorcerer - ping like a sorc
Ratchet Bomb - an aoe spell in an artifact
Shepherd of Heroes - healer like a priest
Showdown of the Skalds - pali group buff
Spoils of Adventure - heal priest heal
Young Pyromancer - summoner
this feels a bit like a niche (challenges/PVE magic the gathering) within a niche (magic the gathering)
based on this https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Hero%27s_Path (Face the Hydra) [Fun Fact: i didnt participate in any of these prereleases because i was too young so all of this is based on 2nd hand experience]
a two part game, the first one being dammah and the latter being o3
How to Play:
(Copied and Pasted from Face the Hydra with modifications)
At the end of any turn, if miniboss/Oryx's friend (i literally forgot the name) is no longer on the battlefield, switch the deck and field with Oryx's deck and do step 1. if Oryx is no longer on the battlefield, you win! Use the regular Magic rules with the following exceptions:
- Choose a starting number of minions. Take that many cards named minion from the Challenge Deck and place them on the battlefield. Shuffle the remaining cards to form the Oryx 3's library.
- You go first. (Don't draw a card on your first turn.)
- Then the Miniboss/Oryx takes its turn, and so on.
- You can attack opponents directly with your creatures. Any number of creatures can attack a single minion/miniboss
- Minion Summoning: whenever a minion of Oryx's is destroyed, reveal the top 5 cards of their deck, and put all creatures onto the battlefield and put the rest on the bottom of the deck in any order. if the miniboss/O3 is revealed, place him on the field and shuffle the deck, then reveal the top 5 cards of the deck and cast all sorceries among them and put the rest on the bottom of the deck in any order.
miniboss deck (for the sake of not having to create 2.5 the amount of original cards, ill just do one for dammah and o3)
Creatures
6Oryx Minister - 3/3 Wizard - Red Big Ball (according to the wiki) when this creature attacks, tap 1 target creature and deal 1 damage to that creature.
7Oryx Ambassador - 2/3 Wizard - Black Wheel when this creature attacks, target creature gets -0/1 until end of turn.
4Oryx Judge - 3/3 Wizard - Green Big Spinner when this creature attacks, put a -0/2 counter on target creature.
1*Dammah - 7/7 Legendary Wizard - (I think ill just leave it mostly vanilla since his spells are sorceries) - Indestructible - Hero's Reward : when this card is destroyed or exiled (for people who dont know magic, it can be destroyed by -x/-x effects or exiled with cards like path to exile blah blah blah) each player gains 10 life and draw 3 cards.
Sorceries
5Big Black Disk (yes that is the actual wiki name) - roll a D6 (mtg added use of d6 in adventures and i really dont know how you could implement dodging) 5+, destroy an opponents creature selected at random
6Battle Axe - roll a D6 4+, deal 2 damage to 4 random opponents creatures
6Blue Magic - roll a D6 4+, deal 1 damage to a random creature, tap 2 lands your opponent controls, they dont untap during your opponents next untap step
10Scimitar - roll a D6 4+, deal 3 damage to all creatures, tap 4 lands your opponent controls, they dont untap during your opponents next untap step
5Portals of Kill - roll a D6 2+, deal 4 damage to all creatures, they cant be regenerated.
5Stagger - roll a D6 2+, tap all creatures you control
5Counter - if one of your creature was destroyed last turn, deal 2 damage to each creature your opponent's control then reveal the top 3 cards of your deck. if you do, cast any number of sorceries among them and put the rest on the bottom of your deck in any order
5Lag - roll a d6, 5+ Destroy target creature
5*Bloodshed Portal - search your deck for 2 cards named Scimitar, reveal them and cast them.
Slay the God (Oryx 3)
Creatures:
10Messenger of Oryx - 3/4 Wizard, when this card attacks, target creature gets -2/0 until the end of your next turn.
7Bomb Artifact - 1/1 Artifact Creature - Construct, when this card is destroyed, destroy a creature at random.
1*Oryx the Exalted - 10/10 Warrior, Trample, Indestructible
Sorceries:
6spain but without the a - Deal 2 damage to each creature you dont control.
6Exalted - put a +1/1 counter for each card named Exalted you have casted this game and reveal the top card of your deck. you may cast this card if it is a sorcery or place it on the battlefield if it is a creature.
5Holy Beam - exile target creature
10Celestial Heavens - destroy all creatures
5Stagger - roll a D6 2+, tap all creatures you control
5Counter - if one of your creature was destroyed last turn, deal 2 damage to each creature your opponent's control then reveal the top 3 cards of your deck. if you do, cast any number of sorceries among them and put the rest on the bottom of your deck in any order
5*Lag - roll a d6, 5+ Destroy target creature
analysis:
As a wizardish, Dammah does a lot of damage effects but i used d6 to give it a bit of rng. O3 on the other hand has almost no rng except with abilities copied from Dammah (Stagger and Lag). he also has instant kill effects instead of damage effects
Since this was all thunker stuff, none of this was actually playtested.
