Serra's Emissary

Creature — Angel

Flying

As this enters the battlefield, choose a card type.

You and creatures you control have protection from the chosen card type. ((Remember the acronym debt.) This can't be damaged, enchanted, equipped, blocked or targeted by anything of the chosen card type. Anything of the chosen card type attached to this immediately falls off.)

Nice looking Angel-deck. I was just toying with the idea of how cool Blade of Selves can be in an Angel deck. Actually equipping that to amost of your Angels would be a nightmare for your opponents (assuming you play commander in 4-player pods). It would be amazing on Angel of Destiny, Archangel of Thune, Exemplar of Light, Righteous Valkyrie and Serra's Emissary to name but a few.

As for more conventional ideas, how about Sunblast Angel? She's a really nasty surprise when opponents' attacked the previous turn (another fun target for Blade of Selves, btw). Adarkar Valkyrie is also excellent; she can attack and still prevent something from dying afterwards. Even better, she can steal an opposing creature while saving it from death! Angelic Arbiter is also great; opponents either can't attack or can't cast spells; brutal.

I think that some of the things that you have read might be confusing Absolute Virtue's ability with how the one on True-Name Nemesis works.

True-Name Nemesis gains protection from a player, which includes all the spells and permanents that player controls. That means that the player's creatures can't block it, the same way a creature with Protection from Red can't be blocked by Red creatures.

Absolute Virtue gives you, the player, protection from your opponents. So nothing they control can target or deal damage to you. A non-targeting spell or effect that causes loss of life like Siege Rhino, Torment of Hailfire, or Hissing Miasma could still lower your life total though.

More importantly to your question, Absolute Virtue's protection effect is only for you, the player, not the permanents you control. Since it doesn't extend to your permanents, your creatures can still be blocked by your opponents.

If the protection extended to creatures you control, the card would have used the wording "You and creatures you control have protection..." like on Serra's Emissary.

Token wise Seance can be interesting in the deck along with Song of the Worldsoul. Also a little surprised at no Ajani planeswalkers. Also might like Soul of Eternity, Serra's Emissary, and Archon of Valor's Reach. Just a couple of thoughts.

JackNavi Thank you for your comment!

I had no idea Reprieve worked like that. That's nifty! I'll definitely consider it!. As for the other suggestions, I'm not wanting to be too in-depth in the equipment subtheme. I do run a few because I do want to be swinging, but I'm not really sure Helm of the Host or Blade of Selves is the direction I want to take the deck.

As for Serra's Emissary, it just makes me wish Iona, Shield of Emeria was legal >_<

Heyo, love the deck and theme. Quick additions from a fellow Angel Beats player: Sigarda's Aid will help out with all of your awesome Equipment. Serra's Emissary can protect your Platinum Angel from Instants and you from Creatures. And I would suggest running Helm of the Host or Blade of Selves for multiples of Giada and for fun! Also, I would run Reprieve in the deck as well, since you have Approach of the Second Sun to really lock in that win! Have fun and I hope to see more!!!!

I would definitely run Trouble in Pairs over Mangara, the Diplomat. Unfortunately it doesn’t come in foil and I’ve made it a point to foil out my entire Giada deck.

2 non-angel cards I have my eye on are Lost Jitte and Collector’s Cage.

With Jitte I’d probably stack counters and dump them all at once to untap a strong land like Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx or Lotus Field.

For the cage I like the idea of doing hideaway on something big like Avacyn, Angel of Hope or Serra's Emissary for board wipe protection and a big swinger on your turn. You can then reset it with Guardian of Ghirapur or something that blinks it.

Azoth2099 oh oops, done! I've been wondering these past couple days how to also make the deck work with the cards I want, with enough card draw, but also not extremely dependent on Kaalia. I've felt that my most powerful turns are around turn 5-6 where I become a threat if I go full unga bunga but after that if there's a board wipe or I got Avacyn, Angel of Hope, Serra's Emissary, or Kaalia of the Vast spot removed, I go the rest of the game crippled headbutting walls.
