Delney, Streetwise Lookout doesn't work with Merry, but could still be worth it

Some ways of triggering Merry on other people's turns: Monologue Tax, Smuggler's Share Search the Premises, Syndicate Heavy Revel in Riches, Illustrious Wanderglyph, Old Flitterfang

Peacekeeper + Sun Titan = super Moat!

I went with Endless Horizons for ramp instead of Land Tax in this build.

I went with Comeuppance and Semester's End instead of Teferi's Protection. I should add it though.

I know this is a major downgrade but I went with Search the Premises over Smothering Tithe. Will most likely swap.

Great suggestions for creatures that draw cards in but if you look at my small list of creatures they all deal with planeswalkers.

Crow-Umbra Meant to get back to this a few days ago but forgot. Oops! lol

I don't think I've even drawn Ria Ivor in playtesting so far. Not in goldfishing or on Arena but as I was typing out something about her for the primer... I kinda came to the same realization you did. She's a bit clunky and unintuitive for token generation. Like, putting her trigger on anything that doesn't have evasion (most of the creatures in the deck) is kinda... just... a waste? Maybe not a waste but definitely not too exciting. The real possibility of just having her target get blocked just seems.... lame. I dunno. I feel like Battle Angels of Tyr would be much more beneficial in that spot and will probably make the swap the next time I update the deck.

Search the Premises is another card I'd want to swap out, but I'd like for it to be for more card draw. Any suggestions? Maybe Gruesome Realization?

KBK7101 How has Ria Ivor, Bane of Bladehold been for you in play-testing, or actual games? She could be a potential swap for Battle Angels of Tyr.

I was initially excited at Ria Ivor's potential for token production, especially with Purphoros & similar Impact Tremors effects. The more I play-tested her, the more clunky & telegraphed it felt to pull off.

Idk, I think Battle Angels could be more impactful with the potential for draw, treasures, & chip life gain.

Alternatively, you could swap in Battle Angels over Search the Premises, another card that I felt was too many hoops to jump through to potentially draw a couple cards, the more i played it.

Congrats on those games. Must have felt good to hold your own and win against some high-octane decks.

I think your swap ideas are pretty spot on. I cut Search the Premises and most of the other stax-y pillow fort effects fairly early on; Search the Premises was one of the first to be cut though. It felt very clunky and kind of counterintuitive to want to dissuade attacks, but still want some attacks to go my way to make a Clue or two. It felt like a lot of hoops to jump through for 1 card.

I've really enjoyed Mishra in my Isshin deck, but didn't bother adding the Dragon Engine. I think the Haste enablers will be a better fit for your deck right now, unless you re-tool to lean more into a token go-wide strategy.

If you decide to retool to go wider, you could probably cut a couple top-end creatures or pillow fort enchantments, and add Commissar Severina Raine and a couple of Impact Tremors effects to round out your group slug package you already have in your 99 with Hellrider and Brutal Hordechief.

I've been considering Burakos, Party Leader in the deck in addition to Harper Recruiter but my only concern is not hitting anything or not getting enough value out of Burakos Crow-Umbra. I've also been considering Professional Face-Breaker since it has a similar effect to Grim Hireling in creating treasure tokens through combat but uses them differently. There's also Squee, Dubious Monarch which creates tokens upon attacking and can get itself back. And another card draw option I've been considering is Search the Premises since it creates clue tokens like Sophina, Spearsage Deserter

Hi KBK7101, I think your deck looks pretty solid to start off. I do have some suggestions on cards I think you can eventually upgrade. First few cuts I think you can make safely are:

  • Sigil of Valor, Akki Ronin, Peerless Samurai - These can likely be cut since they only care about a singular Samurai, Warrior, or Creature attacking alone, and I think that goes against the Go-Wide token theme you want to implement.

  • Slumbering Dragon, Blood Reckoning, & Search the Premises - These are for sure meta calls. I cut Pillow Fort effects from my deck because my play group would remove Isshin, then tank through standard triggers, or they'd leave me alone, and I wouldn't get any of the benefits. Your mileage may vary depending on your meta.

  • Velomachus Lorehold Maybe. Mostly because they look for Instants and Sorceries. I do like that they have Haste, so you don't have to wait. Ultimately up to you.

I think all of the stuff in your maybe-board could be swapped in pretty safely. Hopefully once Commissar Severina Raine and Inquisitorial Rosette get some In-Universe printings, you can add them to your consideration.

I'd also highly suggest Plumb the Forbidden, Deadly Dispute, and maaaaybe Liliana's Standard Bearer as some more potential draw options in a token strategy.

Both Purphoros, God of the Forge and Mishra, Claimed by Gix  Meld are excellent damage finishers in a token strat (but are definitely expensive upgrades).

I'd suggest:

Killer Service swapped for Battle for Bretagard because you'll at least get better tokens with the latter.

Bennie Bracks, Zoologist for Welcoming Vampire because less mana cost, even if you have convoke, because early-game you won't have the creatures and late-game you won't struggle to pay the mana.

Remove Craterhoof Behemoth. You already have trample on your commander, and go-wide won't struggle to get the combat damage in. This card will likely be a dead card for most of the game, and by the point it'd win you the game, a board wipe/buffer should be able to do it anyways.

Add Search the Premises. Getting a token whenever someone swings at you heavily discourages attacks.
