Huatli, the Sun's Heart

Legendary Planeswalker — Huatli

Each creature you control assigns combat damage equal to its toughness rather than its power.

-3: You gain life equal to the greatest toughness among creatures you control.

Update!

Removed all 3 tutors to lessen the power level of the deck and make it more fun for me to play.

Out: Eladamri's Call... Mystical Tutor... Enlightened Tutor

In: Plagon, Lord of the Beach... Huatli, the Sun's Heart... Rolling Stones

Azeure To be honest there is plenty of redundancy that we don't play:

The only one worth running for me is High Alert because it does both "every creatures with defender may attack" and "they assign combat damage equal to their toughness" for every creatures without having to pay mana to apply the effect.

The second best one for me is Assault Formation but i still cuted it. Bedrock Tortoise is almost playable, if either the hexproof was not conditionnal to your turn or if it's mana value was 3 instead of 4.

For 3 mana we usually have 0/7 defender without abilities Glacial Wall / Wall of Ice or 0/6 with abilities Hover Barrier ( i don't take into account the 2 very good 3 mana drop that are Wall of Denial / Weathered Sentinels).

So now let's review Plagon, Lord of the Beach, Plagon is only a 0/3, don't deal damage equal to it's toughness without paying 1 extra mana each time, it's doesn't draw us a card with Arcades and it's ability only fufill one of the 2 needed condition for redundancy as explained above. I agree it could draw us lot of cards, ranging from 2 to 5-6. If we didn't had draw engine in the command zone i would say it worth it, bu since we have one i don't thinks it's necessary.

It's already very hard to find room for each new creatures cards, i'm already having hard time finding room for Crystal Barricade and consider removing Brave the Sands from my deck. A 3 mana creature has to be really really good to make the cut in Arcades now, and i don't speak about 4 mana creatures. I'm still on fence regarding Corrupted Shapeshifter since the only 4 mana creatures i play are Arcades, Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa and Tree of Redemption, and i wonder if i would not rather include Towering Titan instead as another wincon.

PS: My decklist if you want to have a look

I'd diversify by adding cards like Assault Formation and Tree of Redemption or Tree of Perdition. I run a similar deck based around toughness and I have 8 copies of cards that change the way creatures interact with power and toughness with some draw and I still struggle some games. Some other good cards for you would be Tower Defense and Huatli, the Sun's Heart hope this helps.

Peacekeeper's Dictate

Enchantment

At the beginning of each player's upkeep, each creature that player controls deals damage to itself equal to its power. If any creature dealt damage this way dies, its controller creates a 0/2 colourless golem artifact creature token with defender.

MaRo's teaser for March of the Machine mentions a Legendary Creature - Ape Dinosaur Turtle, which will propably be Kogla, the Titan Ape + Yidaro, Wandering Monster. Create the card you expect that to be, following the pattern of the already previewed dual legends for that set.

Fae of Wishes can open up a bunch of options - can stick a Huatli, the Sun's Heart in the sideboard. Dusk / Dawn is another pretty tasty option too.

Some thoughts:

  • I don’t see any point to Ruin Crab here - in fact as you’re not a mill deck, this card is probably going to help your opponent more than hurt them.

  • 20 lands is much too low for what you’re trying to do here. Considering your current mana curve i’d suggest you need 24 lands minimum.

  • Both Warbriar Blessing and Into the Roil feel like bad cards here. The fight effect from Warbriar Blessing is almost always going to be useless as your creatures have no power (and Huatli, the Sun's Heart / Assault Formation don’t change how fighting works), and just getting +0/+2 is really bad for 2 mana. Into the Roil Is just such a passive form of interaction, when you could be running Counterspell

Ive been playing this deck and slowly modifying some cards in and out. Slaughter the Strong and Dusk / Dawn have been really good! Keeping my creatures alive while destroying theirs. Shield-Wall Sentinel has been good as a wall tutor, grabbing me a wall I need and thinning out my deck! I also swapped the Talisman artifacts for the Signets. I just dislike taking the ping damage and I tend to use the dual mana for the 2 CMC wall drops anyways.! Also used Unnatural Growth as a game closer a few times! Huatli, the Sun's Heart served as a backup Arcades. Anyways, I wanted to see what you also thought about those cards

Great to be of help :)

You know what? I found another card for you: Warmonger's Chariot is a card that exists.

For more ways to have your creatures deal butt damage, there are Belligerent Brontodon and Huatli, the Sun's Heart.
