The Night Unfurls

Modern

Hookwyrm

Sideboard

I haven't really been playing this deck much lately, Eldritch Moon werewolves dealt me a blow that I don't know that I'll ever bounce back from. UNLIKE THE WOLVES IN THIS DECK. (Eh??? Because they're resilient.)

Anyway. Werewolves have been my favourite tribe for a long time and I've maintained a casual deck almost as long as I've been playing, so I'd say I have experience with them, and one of the things that I have noticed with them is that they read like aggressive creatures, which is how everyone that I've seen using them plays them, but in practise they tend to go quite grindy, they certainly aren't fast enough to be a competitive aggro deck in modern. They want to build up a board presence, taking out opposing threats until you draw into a Moonmist or Arlinn to blow people out with. Moonmist is one of my favourite cards ever printed, and being honest is the only reason the tribe can even compete.

I've found it can even outgrind tokens and I'd say I'm 75% against the token decks in my meta. The fact that your creatures get stronger if an opponent doesn't cast that instant on their turn or what have you really keeps people off balance, while you build your board state with Scavenging Ooze and Duskwatch Recruiter.

As for where the deck goes from here, I'm currently thinking about splashing black for some Inquisitions, or white for Paths. I'm really not sure yet. With white I could also include a few Champion of the Parishes.

The side board is almost completely filler. I'll fix it up. Later.
