Every Aura is a pump spell when you're Heroic. Get a 16/16 flier ready to attack by turn 3 in a deck that costs about 30 bucks.

Phalanx Leader, the backbone of the deck. When he's out, he's your best target for your spells. A force multiplier from hell.

Favored Hoplite, cheap, durable, reliable. Your preferred opening creature. Slap on an Ethereal Armor or Hyena Umbra and watch him become bolt-proof.

Lagonna-Band Trailblazer, cheap, solid defense against other aggro decks. Potential to grow into a massive wall.

Eidolon of Countless Battles, the big beater. Give him a Gryff's Boon and go to town. He's a big target for removal, though. He's not heroic, but he counts as an enchantment for Ethereal Armor and he loves the massive number of Auras this deck fields.

Akroan Skyguard. What's not to like about a flying creature that gets bigger with every spell you cast?

Ethereal Armor is just nuts with heroic. It's what makes the deck work. With heroic it's a +2/+2 first strike spell for 1 mana that can grow ridiculously huge, especially so if you can cast a second copy.

Gryff's Boon adds cheap evasion, a little attack buff, triggers heroic, and it can be brought back from the graveyard. A poor man's Rancor, sure, but it's reliable, and evasion is a godsend in modern.

Hyena Umbra is brutal on heroic creatures, but also the most expensive card in the deck. First strike, a heroic trigger, and a protection spell all in one. Value!

Gleam of Authority, Ender of Games. With the amount of +1/+1 counters this deck generates, any creature you cast this on can get huge. Gleam of Authority + Phalanx Leader is especially fun.

Murder Investigation is a great way to save the +1/+1 counters you've built up. Note that Murder Investigation counts the power of your creature as it dies, so it also counts whatever boosts it got from its Auras. Pity it doesn't work against Path to Exile, but it's versatile enough to suit the deck's purpose.

Defiant Strike is cheap, it's efficient, gets you heroic, and cantrips.

Emerge Unscathed gets past blockers, saves your creature from kill spells, heroics, and best of all: it goes off twice!

Launch the Fleet is great for getting you a little bit more board presence, and the cheap strive makes it very easy to target multiple creatures.

The ORA ORA ORA route:

The Heroic Route:

  • Turn 1: Plains, cast Lagonna-Band Trailblazer
  • Turn 2: Plains, cast Phalanx Leader
  • Turn 3: Plains, cast Launch the Fleet on the Phalanx Leader and the lagona-band Trailblazer, giving the Lagonna-Band Trailblazer two +1/+1 counters and Phalanx Leader 1 +1/+1 counter. Swing with both, generating two 1/1 soldier tokens, then cast Defiant Strike on the Phalanx Leader after you have declared your attackers, sprinkling around +1/+1 counters to the tokens and the Trailblazer. Damage goldfished is 3 + 2 + 2 + 4 = 11 damage. Lagona-Band Trailblazer is 3/7 at this point, Phalanx Leader is 3/3, the tokens are 2/2s.
  • Turn 4: Plains, cast Gleam of Authority on the Phalanx Leader. It is now huge. Without enchantments it's a 4/4 now, all your other creatures have tons of +1/+1 counters. 7 to be exact, making your Phalanx Leader a 11/11. Ideally, you'll have a Hyena Umbra or Emerge Unscathed on hand to protect your Phalanx Leader from removal. Either way, cast whatever you can on it to make it even bigger (+3/+3 per spell you cast on him, and 3 +1/+1 counters spread across your other creatures). Swing for big mclarge huge.

To make the deck $10 or less, replace all copies of Hyena Umbra with Gods Willing. The change will result in a minor drop in effectiveness because Ethereal Armor likes it so much.

If you have money to spare, upgrade Eidolon of Countless Battles with Kor Spiritdancer, add two copies of Angelic Destiny (replacing Murder Investigation, and consider replacing Defiant Strike with Mutagenic Growth.

If you like this deck, be sure to give it an upvote. :3

Updates Add

Added in 4 copies of Ethereal Armor because it's just nuts in a deck with heroic and this many cheap auras.
