Enchantment (1)

Creature (1)

Author's Note

This deck is an advanced version of my deck $35 Spike Rite. It functions about the same, but this one is more pricey, and does much more damage.

Description

This deck is very simple. It uses the combination of Devoted Druid + Quillspike to do infinite damage to your opponent. Once Both cards are in play and no longer have summoning sickness, you tap Devoted Druid for a mana, and then untap it using its ability. You then use Quillspike's ability, and give it +3/+3. You do this as many times as you feel as necessary, and then swing for damage. If your opponent is insistent on blocking, you can always use Rite of Consumption to stop that. The other cards are pretty much just to fill the space.

Card Breakdown

Wasteland Viper is for blocking anything early game. It's a pretty good chump blocker. Ambush Viper is for protecting the combo if your opponent attacks, and Vampire Nighthawk makes an excellent late-game heavy hitter, if it comes to that. Vines of Vastwood is also useful for keeping the battlefield in check, and can be used as a last line of defense against a blue deck. Rancor is great for getting past token decks. Wall of Blood is for the secondary combo. I'll get to that at the bottom. Elves of Deep Shadow and Joraga Treespeaker are both present to help with the mana curve, even though it's not high at all. If turn one you can play Joraga Treespeaker, and turn two a second forest, you can bump Joraga Treespeaker up to level one and get your mana back. Finally, Collected Company is the tutor used to grab Devoted Druid and/or Quillspike.

Sideboard

The sideboard is mostly answers to problems I can foresee. I tried to keep them mostly budget as well, so I'm sure there are better cards. Naturalize is the answer to Pithing Needle, which this deck is very vulnerable to. It can also be used to stop Tron decks if played correctly. Dragon's Claw is to protect yourself from burn decks, which can crush your combo very quickly. If you can survive the initial 3 turns of a burn matchup, you will usually win. Golgari Charm is just an "incase" card. It can be used for a few situations. Avatar of Might is just in case you encounter someone who already knows your deck, and tries to get rid of the combo. You'll have no endgame. This is the perfect card for that, especially if they play tokens. This card will cost less, and still have trample when it hits the board. The other cards (Go for the Throat, Murder and Plummet ) are all for killing different creatures that could present a problem. Use with discretion.

Turn 3 Win

Turn 1: Forest, Joraga Treespeaker

Turn 2: Forest, Level up Joraga Treespeaker, tap Joraga Treespeaker for , Devoted Druid

Turn 3: Swamp, use Joraga Treespeaker and a Forest to cast Quillspike, infinite combo Devoted Druid + Quillspike and then use a Swamp and a Forest to cast Rite of Consumption and sac Quillspike. If Someone tries to stop you (i.e. killing a piece of the combo), you have enough mana for a green spell if you end with Devoted Druid tapped. I suggest Ranger's Guile . You can also win on turn 4 if you can't get Joraga Treespeaker out in time. If you do have the combo on turn 4, you can replace Rite of Consumption with Primal Rage . Pretty simple, really.

Alternate Combo

If you're not feeling the turn 3 kill combo, there is an alternative. If you can get out Rite of Consumption + Wall of Blood , then you can hit for your life -1. As long as you have more life than them, you're golden.

Downgrading this Deck

Too rich for your blood? It certainly is for mine. My other deck $35 Spike Rite is cheaper, but it has the same effect.
