This deck is challenging to master, but has the means to defeat largely any deck in the current meta. Based on the rotated deck:

The Amonkhet gods are dead...

...and guilds now roam the lands of Standard; but not all men seek an Allegiance to these fragile banners. The Pirates remember what it means to be free, and true freedom lies buried within the glittering hoards of treasure plundered from these weak and fateless cowards.

With the considerable loss of The Scarab God foreshadowing this Standard Meta, the pirates desperately attempt to swathe a place for themselves amidst a seemingly endless array of banners, guilds, and hydras. Can it be done? Is there still a place for the beloved Pirate's Code in Standard? With a little help from a precious vampire ally, there is indeed a whisper of victory amongst their salty ranks.

Through cunning, steel, and bravery...

...the free traders of Ixalan have secured for themselves a cutting edge against the rabble guilds of Ravnica: Treasure. They do not have the numbers to win a pitched battle against mono red or Gruul, nor do they possess the magic to overpower the wiles of fierce control decks. However, a little coin goes a long way, and the pirates have no small amount of coin. By wisely spending this treasure, this deck seeks to hornswaggle victory from these worthy opponents through a number of shrewd and intelligent means.

Ascend with treasure...

...as your treasure hoard builds, so does your power. The key to victory is the key to the city, or more accurately, the City's Blessing. The Twilight Prophet holds this key, and your treasure and conquered lands will be enough to buy its access. This deck is stuffed like a rum-puncheon with expensive baubles that can revitalize your life while passively destroying your opponents, or at least draw enough cards to discover victory from an otherwise dismal situation.

Purchase the demise of your enemies...

...with a Contract Killing . As you front the cost of this seemingly bulky removal spell with treasure (and, of course, mana) you actually gain treasure in return that helps mitigate its cost, maybe even at a profit. Other spells like Vraska's Contempt can likewise defend you from unseemly characters seeking skuttle your ship while also passively acting as positive hits for Twilight Prophet . Expansion / Explosion is a versatile tool that can act as a counter-counter-spell, helps to return incoming fire from burn decks, hit for 6-life on Twilight Prophet , and stands to end the game itself by unleashing your treasure to purchase one swift broadside.

The crew awaits...

Siren Stormtamer is our solid one drop that can defend you and the rest of the crew. Dire Fleet Hoarder is an expendable 2 drop that helps build the treasure horde while also defending our early game. Sailor of Means slaps down a treasure upon arrival and holds the line against incoming attacks. Of course you knew Hostage Taker would make an appearance on our crew and our treasure allows us to instantly cast whatever hostage we acquire. Prosperous Pirates are the big boys that suffer survival into the late game, offer a nice 5-life hit with Twilight Prophet , oh, and they drop 2 treasure on arrival, enough to fool your opponent to play into your Lookout's Dispersal in a pinch. Twilight Prophet is essentially our win condition, but don't be afraid to cast it with no hope of getting the City's Blessing (we have four on board, after all). Once you trigger the City's Blessing, unload all of that treasure into everything you've held back and let the Ascended Twilight Prophet go to work.

Below decks...

Because we have access to every color, our sideboard is engineered to survive the largest threats in the meta with precise answers to those threats. Settle the Wreckage , Consecrate / Consume , and Unmoored Ego for Carnage Tyrant and Gate Colossus . Mortify for bothersome enchantments, and a whole host of counter spells for when we are pitted against a control deck.

Get every inch of canvas to the wind...

...weigh anchor, and set sail! The treasure awaits!
