Intro

A recent comment on /r/mtglegacy caught my attention: "I wish I could play Mardu (Delver). I feel like I want elements of both (Grixis and Esper)."

What caught my attention was the fact that Grixis lists were already a 4c list in most cases, with green splashed for activating Deathrite Shaman. So, why not take a similar approach splashing blue for a single card (Delver)?

Here's where I'll compile my musings on the subject. This is not my first time trying to take on a nonblue Delver, as I had previously worked on a Jund Delver list in Modern.

Card Choices

The obvious place to start is with the namesake creatute: Delver of Secrets  . This bad boy turns into a 3/2 flyer whenever you reveal an instant or sorcery to him. He becomes one of the best beatdown creatures in the game, and easily. You'll want 4 of them, as even in multiples, he can be overwhelmingly difficult to deal with. The other main creature we'll lean on is Young Pyromancer, which is another card that doubles our value on instants and sorceries.

The next area I'll go to is cards that make Mardu specifically a good base for a deck. Cards that have // costs. We'll want to lean on noncreature spells primarily, in order to enable our Delver and Pyromancers. This includes some really powerful options like Kolaghan's Command and Lingering Souls, and some interesting cards like Lightning Helix and Crackling Doom .
