Sideboard

(Deck Banner Coming Soon!)

I've wanted to feature Crush of Tentacles in a deck even since I first saw the awesome artwork but have not been able to fit it in anywhere. Well, I've finally found a way to do it on pure flavor and to use it as a finisher. I'm so happy, I could eat a Deep-Fried Eldrazi.

Wait, that says Deep Fiend, not Deep Fried. Oh well.

Elder Deep-Fiend is a very cool card. Eldrazi Octopus? Yes, please! Emerge is a fun mechanic, and with Flash this guy can really shine. It's even better that when cast you get to tap down 4 permanents. That's anything from land to creatures, which can pave the way for Bane of Bala Ged and Reality Smasher to hit home and win the game in one swoop. It's no secret that Matter Reshaper is a perfect candidate to sacrifice towards the Emerge cost so that he might replace himself. There's not a ton of 3 or less cost creatures, but if you miss at least the card just goes to your hand.

Drowner of Hope is the reason for any card that produces a scion token. You get two the turn you play him so you can immediately tap down the two biggest blockers if you need to. Great value, and awesome artwork. Also as a 5/5 Eldrazi Mimic can swing for a good sized hit the turn you play Drowner as well. This guy fits the flavor of this deck incredibly well and teaches your opponent to fear what lurks beneath the surface of the sea.

The main dynamic duo is Eldrazi Mimic and Reality Smasher. Pretty much everything else in the entire deck is there to keep your opponents side of the table squeaky clean so they can lay out lethal damage either all at once or in just a few quick turns. This combo isn't new, but it is certainly potent.

The original basis of this deck was built around the concept of having Bane of Bala Ged on the board and using Displacement Wave before attacking to force your opponent to exile their land. Still a dirty, dirty trick and still very much a strategy here. Now Engulf the Shore is added for fun, flavor, art, and potency. At Instant speed this can be tossed out to return all of your opponents creatures before Emerging an Elder and tapping down their mana to take their turn away from them and leaving the board completely open to swing in with everything you can. They might even need to discard which adds insult to injury.

Abstruse Interference and Adverse Conditions help tempo even more while giving your Drowners more Scion Tokens to snack on. Yummy.

Hedron Crawler , Hedron Archive, and Conduit of Ruin are all there for ramp and allow you to cast multiple expensive things in a turn. Conduit is great as another 5/5 for Mimic, but he can also dig out an Elder and reduce it's cost substantially when combined with Emerge. The 2 cost reduction while sacrificing a Matter Reshaper means you can play the Elder for just 2 blue mana. Crazytown.

The sideboard has a bit of removal with Titan's Presence and answers to cards you'll encounter with Turn Aside, Warping Wail, and Spatial Contortion . Slip Through Space is nice against instant speed token generators like Secure the Wastes or creatures with Flash to ensure that you don't get chump blocked. Ruination Guide pairs well with Matter Reshaper as a 3 cost, and giving your creatures an extra bump in power could give you the edge you need. This slot could be replaced as playtesting reveals other possibilities. Imprisoned in the Moon proved to be a very powerful card that fits in here very nicely to do just that as a 3 cost that can ruin your opponents plans. It certainly did it's job at the pre-release I went to last night :D

Breaker of Armies and Void Winnower are great targets for Conduit to bring forth, and could spell victory once they enter combat. The Lure effect on Breaker is yet another option to pave the way to victory, and Winnower could completely shut down the right opponent. Both are huge bodies to grow your Mimics into some serious brutes. If you can actually have a few on the table when you play one of these guys your opponent will have a whole lot of combat damage to deal with.

And that's pretty much it. The right hand can score a win in just 4 or 5 turns, but there's certainly plenty to build up to if the game goes longer. I'm happy to be using underappreciated cards like Drowner of Hope and Crush of Tentacles. This deck is fun to play if you like being super aggressive, especially in a color that is not known or expected to be.

Updates Add

So a few weeks ago I attended the Eldritch Moon Pre-Release at my LGS and took 3rd place with a U/W control deck that mostly comprised of Spirits but I also got and Elder Deep-Fiend which worked wonderfully with Subjugator Angel to set up the final winning attacks.

This Monday we did our Monday home draft and I pulled an Emrakul, the Promised End. Out of 4 rounds, I was able to cast her and destroy my opponent 3 times and I won every single time on my followup turn after playing their turn and leaving them with really bad board states. I was able to force a discard of Tamiyo in one game and then play and counter their last 2 cards on another which was just insult to injury. Interestingly enough, I pulled a ton of red and green Werewolf Horrors and built a deck around that and then got the Emrakul and thought I'd just toss it in anyway and see what happens. The whole night I went undefeated except for one round I won the first game, threw away the second with a bad starting hand that I shouldn't have kept, and then lost game 3 by one turn because they caught their stride just a little faster than I did. The outcome made me look at Werewolves in a whole new light and I'll be putting together a new deck that features their awesome power.

Anyway, I figured that since I got one I might as well use the tentacle queen herself in this deck since it should be really easy to cast with the added ramp from Hedron Crawlers, Hedron Archives, and Shrine of the Forsaken Gods.
