DESCRIPTION:
Show ComboHide Combo/Key Cards
Combo: Utilize Rally the Ancestors and the cheap red creatures to swing for lethal in one turn. Interestingly enough, this deck plays a control role despite is R/W coloration. Using Faithless Looting,
Goblin Lore
, Burning Inquiry, and Codex Shredder, discard your
Spark Elemental
s and
Hellspark Elemental
s. Then, RALLY THE ANCESTORS!!!! Return all the little red guys to play, and swing for lethal.
KEY CARDS
Rally the Ancestors: Cornerstone of the deck. Reanimate your whole graveyard for just 4 Mana on your turn, or on your opponent's for blockers.
Spark Elemental
: Scare those meta decks early on! The perfect start, and can be pitched with Faithless Looting for a reanimation target. They sac at end of turn, so the Rally wont exile them. That means... you can Rally again and again!
Hellspark Elemental
: Similar to
Spark Elemental
. This one can also reanimate itself for that last push of damage.
Silence and Path to Exile: Our (sorta) control/stall package. Drag the game on while filling up the grave to get ready for that big Rally.
Wall of Omens: Draw a card + stall = value. After being reanimated, it can find you an extra card to keep the Rallys comin'.
Faithless Looting: This is probably one of my favorite red cards. It allows you to dump your Elementals and look for a Rally, preparing for that important turn 4. Flashback is also helpful.
Goblin Lore
and Burning Inquiry: These can look for Rallys or Elementals while filling up the grave quickly. Also,
Burning Inquiry is a great disrupter for early game, especially vs combo.
Noxious Revival and Codex Shredder: After playtesting with Shredder, I found it was really great. It mills, and can return the Rally the Ancestors that were discarded. Revival is also helps get back stuff you need that you milled (Rallys, Silence, Path to Exile, etc.)
Heartlash Cinder
: while this one is a good finisher, I found it pretty lackluster so reduced it to a 1-of. It can usually swing for 4-5, but doesn't die by itself and so it can be reanimated multiple times.
Show StrategyHide Strategy
Strategy: On key turns (usually 3+), cast Silence to stifle your opponents' progress while casting the Burning Inquirys first, disrupting their game plan. Path to Exile
+
Wall of Omens
helps find cards, stall opponent, then ramp for that Turn 4 Rally the Ancestors for 2 with Silence Backup or help combat manascrew. Game 1, this deck is pretty hilarious. Between the Burning Inquiry screwing your opponent over and the generally slow and controlling pace of the deck, your opponent may assume that you are a noob who is playing a RW Burn with Wall of Omens and loot cards. After he assumes that his (for example) Abzan midrange is in a winning position and slowly getting rid of your defenses by swinging with his rhinos and leaving back very little, you show him the error of his ways. Rally the Ancestors for 2, reanimating your whole grave and slam dunking your opponent feels really good, and they rarely see it coming game 1.
Manabase: the Manabase for this deck seems pretty peculiar because of the Boros Garrisons, but those help quite a bit. Because of all the discard at random, it is sometimes hard to keep up the lands til turn 4. Since the only really important thing is that you are ready on turn 4-5 with the Rally, the Boros Garrisons ensure that you are getting enough mana without needing more cards. "Card Advantage" so to speak.
