Sadly, I think my LGS is done holding Pioneer tournaments.

Have some removal would be nice. I suggest Declaration in Stone over Ajani's Welcome or Path of Bravery because you don't really need more incremental life gain. Another card which is one of the strongest in pioneer is Brave the Elements. It would help you protect your angels or close out the game.

Check out my Pioneer Mono-white angel tokens deck!

I'm sure you can help me with strategies and such since you have been playing a mono-white angel deck with all of these tournaments!

9-lives - I have only played in one tournament ATM, with the deck no where near this build. lol, but went two and one in matches. Graveyard matters deck was the only loss: 0 and 2 to it.

Just play whatever feels right for you.. don't try to win against every build.

Have fun!

Absolutely awesome deck, the high point of all life gain decks ever, except for maybe that first deck you build with Angel's Mercy;). Could you maybe check out my pioneer deck, https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/cheaty-cheaty-ultimatums/?

Traded a newish version of Sol Ring for a pack of War of the Spark, and cracked another Gideon Blackblade!

Angel's Mercyisn't nearly as good as Chaplain's Blessing! 2 less life, 3 less mana!

Angel's Mercy is somewhat of a meme card.

I_Want_To_PlayAllTheDecks Probably because the only mercy of Angels in MTG is death! Can't play angels lovingly in MTG, as it is a battle-based game!

I second the Feather, the Redeemed motion. That seems like a very natural fit for this deck.

Oh, and I will add Rest in Peace in the sideboard is amazing, particularly with all of these companions running around.

Hi there!

Angels are awesome! But the deck seems a little confused and inconsistent as is. Is it an aggro or midrange deck? Is it focused on angels with lifegain as a bonus or the other way around? Right now it is a bit of everything and therefore won't be doing any part properly. A few examples to clarify what I mean:

  • First off, 20 lands is way too few, unless you play a low-curve aggro deck. I'd go for 24-25, if you want to include the bigger angels.

  • Boros Elite is a pure aggro card, which is just terrible without a lot of 1- and 2-drops.

  • Ajani's Welcome again needs you to play a low curve, other synergistic cards and also go wide, if you really want some bang for your buck. It's not that great a card in general though. As is, you rarely play more than 1 creature a turn, at which point it doesn't do much, especially when you want 4-5 life per turn to trigger either Resplendent Angel or Angelic Accord.

  • Gideon's Triumph never saw any play in Standard. There should be better options in Pioneer too. I'd keep my edict effects for the sideboard, if you are expecting to match up against a lot of Bogle (aura) decks.

  • The Birth of Meletis is a better fit for more controlling decks.

  • Idyllic Tutor is probably best off in a deck based around enchantments. 9/10 times you probably want to fetch Angelic Accord, so might as well add another one of those and save the 3 mana instead.

  • Even without the angel synergies, Feather, the Redeemed is a better card than Anax and Cymede. I'd decide on what to do with the deck first though, before adding more build-arounds.

I like the general idea, but I'm sure you'll be able to make it a lot stronger and more streamlined.

Don't play a lot of Pioneer myself, but deckbuilding is always fun, so feel free to ask away!

If you want to splash red, there's no reason not to play more of the good dual lands - Sacred Foundry, Battlefield Forge, Inspiring Vantage, Clifftop Retreat etc.

MrBoombastic - yeah, so I've been tweaking the deck here and there as of late. Most likely the only deck I'll play once LGSs around me start running tournaments again. Thanks for the input.

The reason for Gideon's Triumph is that Pioneer is a very creature heavy format. The reason for Boros Elite is to have a creature out first or second turn to chump block. I'll most likely get rid of Ajani's Welcome for land you suggested.

Keep in mind that this is still a work in progress..

HARDsofty Awesome deck man. Got some suggestions; you said those Boros elite are in there for early blockers; unless you prefer their late game offensiveness, I'd maybe consider running Dryad Militant, Resolute Watchdog, Giant Killer, Dauntless Bodyguard, Skymarcher Aspirant or Alseid of Life's Bounty. Extra utility that'll protect other beaters/remove threats late game. Even Thraben Inspector, for that card draw.

Also, Blessed Alliance over Gideon's Triumph?

mistarilledawn - the mono white suggestions are relevant for the deck. I'm getting two copies of Feathered, so I wouldn't use the dryad.

Might have to look for some of those in my collection! Thank you

HARDsofty Unless I'm misunderstanding the cards, Feather doesn't let the spells touch the graveyard, so the dryad won't exile them

SmarmyMarmy - You're right! I'll consider it for sideboard.

Have you considered Divine Visitation if you are going to run Bishop of Wings so that anytime an angel dies its replaced by an angel token (including the angel tokens)

June 16, 2020 5:49 p.m.

MrBoombastic says... #23

Both Feather, the Redeemed and Dryad Militant are replacement effects. You just pick which one applies to the spell, so they can play alongside each other without worry.

tsunderrated Divine Visitation is a lot of fun, but it's a build-around. It takes a ton of token makers to be good. With only a handful (and most of them making angels already), it won't do anything most of the time.

HARDsofty Hope we'll see an update soon ^^
