Modern Rock

Modern Rock

ManInBlack

Sideboard

Modern version of Rock. It was more on the control side of midrange before, now it's more one the aggro side. I still have plenty of removal to back it up, but Tarmogoyf, Knight of the Reliquary, and Doran, the Siege Tower push the damage through quickly.

Uses Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek, and Liliana of the Veil for hand disruption.

Maelstrom Pulse and Oblivion Stone are there to clear the board (less so Maelstrom, but it has the potential). Elspeth Tirel can also do the board wiping.

The planeswalkers and Thragtusk help me bounce back after a wipe.

Added sideboard

3/24/13

Not sure what's in the meta in my city. I figured this covers my bases fairly well against the main archetypes, but would have to get some play in to know.

Multiple adds/removes

3/25/13

-2 Solemn Simulacrum

-2 Thrun, the Last Troll

-4 Forest

-2 Godless Shrine

+2 Blade Splicer

+3 Knight of the Reliquary

+2 Marsh Flats

+2 Temple Garden

+1 Misty Rainforest

Found the Simulacrum to be too slow. Thrun was good, but he wasn't good enough. I found I was often holding him back for a blocker.

Added Blade Splicer for the Restoration Angel and he worked out well. I would like to find room for one or two more, but I'm not sure where. Also added Knight of the Reliquary to fill the same role as Tarmogoyf. If I drop it early, it forces the opponent to use their removal early or deal with a great attacker/blocker. If I drop it late, it'll likely be huge.

I swapped lands for more fetches for the Knight. Considering putting in some utility lands for the Knight to fetch if I need them (Dryad Arbor, Bojuka Bog, etc.)

Multiple adds/remvoes

4/30/13

Forgot to post an update until now. The deck went through a lot of changes.

-4 Blade Splicer

-3 Restoration Angel

-3 Thragtusk

-1 Thoughtseize

-1 Path to Exile

-2 Elspeth Tirel

-2 Mutavault

-2 Oblivion Stone

+2 Birds of Paradise (Will likely become Noble Hierarch if I can find any around town)

+4 Deathrite Shaman

+2 Stirring Wildwood

+3 Doran, the Siege Tower

+1 Garruk, Primal Hunter

+2 Inquisition of Kozilek

+3 Lingering souls

+1 Nameless Inversion

This isn't entirely accurate, due to the intermediary deck form. Was told by most every pro I showed my deck to that Resto Angel, Thragtusk, and Blade Splicer were cute, but not good enough for the deck. Swapped them for Lingering souls and planeswalkers.

Put in some mana dorks for speed.

Added Doran for speed and to pump a few of my guys.

Added Stirring Wildwood over Mutavault now that Bladesplicer is gone. He's fatter, works with Doran, and has reach.

Swapped one Path to Exile for Nameless Inversion for interaction with my goyfs and combat tricks when Doran is out.

Sideboard changes:

-2 Damnation

-4 Loxodon Smiter

-3 Leyline of Sanctity

+1 Wrath of God

+3 Creeping Corrosion (Affinity is the deck I've had most trouble with)

+1 Path to Exile

+1 Gaddock Teeg (Can't find anything relevant right now)

+1 Thoughtseize

+2 Inquisition of Kozileck
