New hubs to be added

Hi all, I'm one of the people who adds hubs, I'm back from an unexpectedly long break, and I'm working on adding some new stuff. Suggestions I'm looking at are Uro, Mutate, Miracles, Doomsday, Adventures, Devoted Druid, and Blink. Please let me know of any other suggestions, or discussions on the ones I listed, and I'll get to work.

Also, what did I miss with the DragonShield superhero stuff?

legendofa says... #1

mrkeithguy Interesting. It's still fairly niche, though. If coin flippery develops, I'll take a closer look. I know it's popular in casual play, and I'm always willing to be convinced to fast-track it.

Hi,

I would say, a "Legends" Hub is missing. I'm a EDH Player, and a Legendstheme is often a coretheme in many decks that focus to get gain for legendary cards. On EDHREC this theme has also become a coretheme for Decktypes. I would love to add the "Legends" Hub to my Saskia EDH Legends Deck.

Where did the 'Tribal' and color combination (i.e. Mardu) hubs go? Can we get Vampires as a creature specific hub please?

January 16, 2021 1:07 p.m.

TheVectornaut says... #4

Last_Laugh, these hubs are no longer in the main dropdown menu. When you create a deck, the appropriate color tag will be automatically added for you. To add color tags to old decks, you only need to go into the editor and re-save the deck. As for creature types, they (along with keywords) have been moved to a separate tag selection system you can see to the right of the original one. If there are enough instances of a type or mechanic in the deck, you'll see a box with that label. I believe you can tick up to 3 of these boxes to have them appear as tags for the deck. If you want to tag a deck with a tribe, keyword, or color combination that isn't representative of that deck, you're out of luck as far as I can tell. Still, the fringe cases where that would be useful aren't worth sacrificing the leaner tag list for.

TLDR: Mardu and Vampires are still tags; they're just applied differently.

It's not just you and if you read the response to me asking the same thing just a few posts ago... they lied lol.

Last_Laugh how so? Everything TheVectornaut said seemed pretty truthful to me

I'm guessing we're experiencing some user-specific bug with the new tags again. The same thing actually happened to me shortly after the feature launched. I was able to see the tribal tags but not the keyword tags. At least one person reported the same problem, but it did seem like it wasn't universal. Very shortly after, the problem apparently rectified itself as I was able to see keyword tags again. Looking at my own tribal decks and Laugh's Edgar Markov deck, I see the creature and color tags in the editor and deck page clear as day. Therefore, if they aren't seeing them, I'd think the problem would have to be localized to a handful of users. I wish I could provide advice on how to fix such an issue, but as I said, it just kind of ceased being a problem for me without any input of my own. I have no idea if any changes to the feature were made that could have created and/or fixed such errors.

Is there a deck hub for new, user created, formats? I know I made a new format and want to show it off and maybe have people outside my playgroup try it out, or at least look at it, so I was wondering if something like "User created format" could become a deck hub.

Thanks tappedout admins, you guys are amazing!

January 25, 2021 12:45 p.m.

legendofa says... #12

LunchBox1211 I think that would fit better under the Format header than as a hub. Hubs don't really include format, and as I go back and look, there is a Custom option under the Format header. It's broad, but there are probably at least several hundred Custom formats with 1-2 decks each wandering around this site.

Mick-Tis: But are there any cards that care specifically about things being goaded? That's generally the biggest criteria for a hub.

Can we add a Hub for Vorthos or Storytelling Decklists?

Hi! I was wondering if you could add two things.

  1. Discard. I know people will probably get angry at me for suggesting this because discard is "disgusting", at least to some people. However, I have made a few discard decks on this site, and own one as well.

  2. Mana burn. I know this is not a very prominent deck type, but I know many people, (including myself), who have made Yurlok of Scorch Thrash decks. Maybe you could put in these two? Thanks.

legendofa says... #19

Mtg_Mega_Nerds

  1. There's a Discard hub available for use. It's one of my favorite hubs, and discard's the whole reason I'm in this game. The only disgusting things are people who think discard is disgusting. (Joking! I'll leave now.)

  2. At this point, Mana Burn and Yurlok of Scorch Thrash are completely synonymous. The hub would literally be EDH decks with Yurlok as the commander and casual decks that happen to include Yurlok. If more cards that replicate Mana Burn get printed for different formats or different strategies arise around mana burn, I'll revisit it.

February 1, 2021 5:38 p.m.

Ok thanks! I added the discard hub to my deck. It must not have existed at the time of it being created. Here it is: Budget Discard

Hub suggestions:

  1. Draw-Go?

  2. Landless/Oops All Spells!

Not a fan of the removal of all the guilds/tribes as manual choice. The Ravnica guilds and Khans clans have very distinct identities which are useful for browsing decks. However sometimes, your deck isn't going to be eg. 'a simic deck' or a orzhov deck (in theme or mechanical sense), it just shares those colours.

Definitely makes for a worse user experience. If I want to browse a format decks I'll probably go to the hub for the colour combination first of all.

Most of the simplifications are also removing usability.

Would be better if you could add a drill-down tree type list, maybe ordered by Magic eras, years, standard rotations, etc. That way if people just want to exclude old archetypes they can, or maybe make these hubs legacy so people have to check a box to tag a deck with them.

It hurts to see all the old tags disappear, I feel like you're kind of losing the potential to preserve decklists from Magic history as they were created at the time (or for people to go back and edit their old lists, brew in old formats, etc etc).

February 3, 2021 8:54 p.m. Edited.

yeaGO says... #23

we didn't change anything to the color hub--your deck is always tagged in the hub which you choose the colors of.

the tags didn't disappear you just need to have some of those subtypes in your deck before using them

February 3, 2021 9:12 p.m.

somsoc says... #24

Sorry, I meant as a manual choice (edited my post). Maybe when you're on your deck edit page, it can show the auto added guild/clan/shard etc hub(s) for you to uncheck if you want? (and just to let people know that it will be added). (eg one of my sultai decks is now listed under the hub for 'GWUB' but it's not even splashing white).

One of the hubs I always wanted and missed was something akin to 'encyclopaedia'. A lot of users create decks which are reference listings of cards, a knowledge base. There has never been a good hub for those that I noticed, but they remain some of the more useful decks on the site.

February 3, 2021 9:18 p.m. Edited.

yeaGO says... #25

well one note is that we don't auto-add the tribe hub they just become available at that time. only auto-add is the color hub.

Kintoki says... #26

Can someone direct me to the right place or, if they can, fix the problem by themselves? By which I mean, the new Kaldheim commander cards appear as red or illegal in Commander in my EDH decks depite the fact that opening the card file it shows that the only banned formats are Penny dreadful and Pauper. Not a real problem but a bit annoying, especially if you run a good chunk of the precon's new cards...

February 7, 2021 3:43 a.m.

Caerwyn says... #27

Kintoki - Card legality needs to be manually updated and it usually takes a few days for individuals to update the legality for new sets. Give it a week or two and everything will be good to go.

I feel we're lacking a Wheels hub.

February 10, 2021 2:35 a.m.

How about ETB?

February 10, 2021 7:20 a.m.

Maybe other people can help out with this too:
Foretell has enough cards to synergize into a cohesive deck ( Cosmos Charger , Dream Devourer , etc ) but I don't think it'll live past standard unless Ranar gets popular. And I doubt that. BUT! Cards like Vega, the Watcher are much more versatile. I wouldn't be surprised if Vega flew over to modern or commander. Maybe there should be a hub for that but like, what would it be called? Alternative Costs/Casting? Tricks/Cheats? IDK I'm just putting it in Gimmick for now.

February 12, 2021 11:29 p.m.

I agree with TheVectornaut about a Defenders or Toughness Matters hub. WotC seems to like printing Assault Formation , Arcades, the Strategist , and High Alert , so Defenders is a good choice (though I wouldn’t call it Walls because not all defenders are walls). But I’ve also seen a lot of Toughness Matters with Doran, the Siege Tower , Belligerent Brontodon , and Huatli, the Sun's Heart .
I’m here to throw out Chroma/Devotion. Even before Theros Beyond Death, there’s been a lot of modern decks using Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx . Green likes to print cards like Khalni Hydra , Primalcrux , and Llanowar Tribe , but there’s plenty of devotion with other colors, too.
Anyway, thanks for reading!

I am just wondering why the Cruel Control hub is no longer around? Is Cruel Ultimatum just that dead/obsolete?

In the "Advanced search" it seems to still be an option for filtering/searching decks but it's not an option anymore for creating/editing decklists.

WestNileWerewolf Just added a Wheels hub.

TheBlackDragon0 Do you have something specific in mind for ETB? That's a broad name, and most interactions I can think of would be covered by Blink or a tribal selection.

TheRoaringRegisaur I added a Toughness Matters hub recently, so you should be good there. Chroma and Devotion should both be selectable from the ability keywords/tribal lists under the hub drop-down menu. "Alternate cast" is too broad and vague; I worry that any deck that has As Foretold or Aether Vial or whatever would end up there. If Vega, the Watcher ends up as a major archetypes, I'll take another look.

Icbrgr I dropped the Cruel Control hub for two reasons. First, as Femme_Fatale said, it's not a player in any major archetypes at this point, and I removed a lot of hubs that were major players for only a single Standard season. Second, the hub was being misused by all sorts of punishing control decks, regardless of colors or card inclusion. Abzan Prison might be cruel and controlling, but it's not Cruel Control.

Lionhearted1 There's a Snow hub available, so go for it.

chaos? it's quite a popular theme in edh at least, probably not so much in other formats lol

February 19, 2021 3:58 p.m.

legendofa says... #40

hellokitty6666666666666 What do you have in mind for Chaos? I don't have a problem with EDH-majority hubs, but I'd like to know what you're looking for.

February 19, 2021 5:51 p.m.

legendofa I guess just decks whose main theme is causing chaos for the table lol. Shuffling permanents or spells around, cheating others' creatures or permanents out, randomly countering spells, just causing general chaos.

Cards like Grip of Chaos , Planar Chaos , Possibility Storm , Hive Mind , Eye of the Storm , Chaos Warp , Scrambleverse , Warp World , Wild Evocation , etc. come to mind.

Searching decks and forums on here brings up quite a lot of results. I would consider my deck here: Giving Good People Bad Permanents a chaos deck. EDHREC has a 'Chaos' theme hub as well if you're interested in looking there.

Lantern Control is still an archetype and deserves a Hub.

February 23, 2021 10:21 p.m.

Foretell needs a hub.

February 24, 2021 6:21 a.m.

legendofa says... #44

hellokitty6666666666666 Chaos as a theme works, I'm going to play around with different names. It'll probably end up being Chaos.

Astro2 Is Lantern Control still around? I used to run it fairly frequently, but I never got as good at it as I wanted to. But I know it as a very tight decklist, and I'm trying to avoid putting hubs that have little variation. Do you have some examples that show different flavors of Lantern Control?

DoctorBarbarian Foretell should go in the ability list list. I think yeaGO controls that one.

March 9, 2021 12:41 a.m.

TheVectornaut says... #50

I think there might be a misunderstanding here about which companion hub each of you is referring to. Now that keyword abilities have their own hubs, there is a generic "Companion" hub. In my limited testing, I found that it's detected in exactly the same way as all other types and abilities. That is to say, you need at least 2 unique cards with the companion ability in your mainboard for it to appear as a hub for selection. However, unless you're doing some crazy deckbuilding challenge or something, you will very rarely fulfill that requirement. Using companion as it's intended to be used with a single copy of the card in the sideboard will not cause the hub checkbox to appear (both because 1 card isn't enough to meet the threshold and because the sideboard isn't factored into the system anyway.)

However, as was announced in the Companion Support forum post on April 30th, 2020, decks are automatically added to their companion's specific hub when that companion is marked in the sideboard with CMPN. This works similarly to tagging commanders, causing the companion to appear as such on both the deck page and in the playtester. It seems to me that the specific hubs are much more beneficial for the archival and retrieval of decklists than the generic hub anyway. I'd recommend just using that system if you aren't already. This does mean that there's essentially no reason for the keyword hub to exist at all though. If enough players preferred the broader hub, the process that detects keywords would need to be updated or companion would need to be added to the dropdown hub list. Again though, I see this as being unnecessary.

Sorry if my speculation is off here. I'm not nearly tech-savvy enough to comprehend what's happening on the site's back-end, so I can only make inferences about what I see on the front-end. I'd love to know more details if anyone is privy to them.
