Simon_Williamson I think you're in the wrong thread. ;)

As for Commander, I have to say that I'm surprised still - though more like disappointed in the lack of Hybrid mana costs so far. It would be a nice way to improve color identity while at the same time making cards easier to cast or activate. Oh well.

Aside from Magus of the Will, we also got this:

Ooh, Ikra's up on Mythic -- I love Buttlink! Any creature with a booty like that...

3/7 with Buttlink. Yes.

So, Double strike and/or extra combat steps give your spells more than one instance of cascade with Yidris?

October 27, 2016 11:33 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #5

I can't be bothered to post all of the new cards. You can check them out at many websites if you wish.

MAGUS OF THE WILL GET HYPE

YIDRIS GET HYPE

STEALING EQUIPMENT GET HYPE

GET HYYYYYPE

DarkLaw says... #8

Okay, wtf. I just realised that Yidris triggers for each time it dealt damage. You could easily get four triggers, settle down, and cast a card with "Cascade, cascade, cascade, cascade, cascade, cascade."

Seems balanced.

smackjack Nice clip.

I'm super stoked! After hearing about the 4c commanders I built a deck maybe two months ago or so, and I was already running the following combos:

PERFECT FOR YIDRIS

Any of the cards that untap lands with combat go hand in hand with our ogre buddy's ability

Some interesting new ones. The Orzhov one looks nice for grouphug:

Divergent Transformations sound promising in narset. Tune your list to have some tokens from walkers and other sources, have some low cost man lands, and run only Kiki and exarch as your creatures. Cast it on yourself for a pseudo tooth and nail.

As far as combos go, this one is among the easiest for narset to set up and has utility outside of the combo. Kiki and exarch aren't that great solo though and narset might exile them.

Daretti, Scrap Savant

Homeward Path.

The reprints this year...Oh my Bolas.

Curse of Vengeance, eh? Seems very easy to deck yourself with unless you are careful. If you use it properly, though, it seems incredibly strong.

The pillow fort card is funny too tbf.

October 27, 2016 1:41 p.m.

Whoo! Just traded my Homeward Path for $5 worth of stuffs! (I usually trade down, so if I really need a certain card there's some leeway)

Ouch :)")

That's gonna leave a mark...

October 27, 2016 2:37 p.m.

I need the decklists!!

Can't decide if I should preorder a set of 5 at 130 or just get singles I really want for (at the moment) around 50 bucks

October 27, 2016 2:47 p.m.

CChaos says... #19

If you want 2 decks for 50 each just buy all for 130.

I was struggling to pick between Atraxa and Yidris but Saskia has put a real spanner in the works with the cards I reckon will be joining her.... Grrrr, WotC!

October 27, 2016 3:16 p.m.

Phaetion says... #21

I won't lie: There's not a single 4-colored legendary I don't like. The only one would be Atraxa, Praetors' Voice but I could get away with a counters matter deck (NOT superfriends, though I'd add a few planeswalkers).

Looks like I'll have 5 decks on my person for a while.

October 27, 2016 3:26 p.m.

Phaetion says... #22

I guess you guys forgot about this card...

Ill be picking up Atraxa and Saskia.

October 27, 2016 3:55 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #24

Phaetion Yeah, we didn't really feel the need to post that... Card...

Not that I'm one to judge. I do occasionally mess up formatting.

I'm probably going to get Yidris for sure, Atraxa maybe, and Breya possibly.

October 27, 2016 4:01 p.m.

DarkLaw says... #25

New art for Windfall. I think that the older art is better because people are losing their heads.

October 27, 2016 4:06 p.m.

K34 says... #26

When do the full lists come out?

October 27, 2016 5:12 p.m.

Phaetion says... #27

Tomorrow. I'm getting impatient as it is.

October 27, 2016 5:16 p.m.

If I don't buy all 5 the order goes

Atraxa (actually really want Reyhan), Yidris, Breya, Saskia, Kynaios and Tiro,

I really just think the Yidris deck is going to be a blast to play/build. I love randomness. Probably wouldn't run Yidris though. He would get too much hate. Probably run Vial Smasher and Kydele

pskinn01 says... #29

@ K34, and Phaetion: full list for special sets usually are out about a week before the cards release. Which will be next Friday. Last year deck lists came out on 11-6, and the set was released on 11-13. The new cards were all done the week previous. Then more of the reprinted cards were spoiled the second week.

October 27, 2016 6:17 p.m. Edited.

DarkLaw says... #30

pskinn01 The preview length of supplementary products is always one week. It will be tomorrow. I don't know what you got confused with, because I don't think the pattern that you described has ever happened with any product.

October 27, 2016 6:37 p.m.

pskinn01 says... #31

sorry, was going by the fact that the deck list for commander have been released one week before the decks are. look here for the deck list last year which was released the Friday before, not saying that they can't change it, just stating what it was last year. And unless they change it, deck lists won't be out tomorrow.

October 27, 2016 7:05 p.m.

Named_Tawyny says... #32

You know, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that both enemy coloured partner legendaries are in the same deck. With four coloured commanders, they could have had three different colour pairs for the commanders, which would make it easy to switch to a three colour deck if you wanted to.

Oh well.

miracleHat says... #33

So nobody talks about magus of the will? Having Yawgmoth's Will in a karador was nice... but having a RECURRING Yawgmoth's Will potentially EVERY TURN (greaves, crossroads, etc) is ridiculous. And nekusar storm, have yawgmoth will, magus will, and past in flames, all in one deck...

Collective Voyage -> treacherous terrains -> Vengeful Rebirth -> treacherous terrains... Oh and because I can assume we are playing Riku, turn 4 riku -> turn 5 snapcaster mage + Double Treacherous Terrains. Boom. Everybody should die. People need to think more about what you can do with new cards, not just what they are.

There are still only three good partner generals :(
Reyhan, the Abzan + Ishai, the Ojutai
Tymna, the Weaver + Kydele, the Kruphix
Tana, the Bloodsower + Ravos, Soultender.

It is sad.

Arvail says... #34

@miracleHat

, , Exile Magus of the Will: Until end of turn, you may play cards from your graveyard. If a card would be put into your graveyard from anywhere this turn, exile that card instead.

So I was just thinking how Reyhan and Ravos would make a pretty fun combo structured around devour/sacrifice and moving +1/+1 counters around.

DemonDragonJ says... #41

Phaetion, how does divergent transformations make any sense in red? It should be white, for that effect, in my mind. Mark Rosewater has said that, at this point in the game, the color pie is well-defined and that he is very concerned with ensuring that each color has its own distinct identity, but this is now the third red card in recent years that outright breaks the color pie (the other two being Worldfire and Bearer of the Heavens, which break the color pie because they can affect enchantments, a card type with which red is supposed to have difficulty dealing; the giant would make perfect sense in white, and worldfire would make sense if it were red/white).

Sloanan, do you think that the artwork on curse of vengeance is a reference to the Sword of Damocles?

October 28, 2016 1:02 a.m.

Worldfire and Bearer of the Heavens are very red, Worldfire sets the game to a state in which anyone can win at any moment for any reason, that volatile randomness is pure unadulterated red. The giant is given the responsibility to hold... existence is very red also, red is about passion and often the costs that come from it (discarding cards to draw for example) and this can fit into responsibility very well. As for destroying enchantments, red can't go out of it's way to destroy specifically enchantments, but it can blow shit up indiscriminately and enchantments just happen to fall apart, such as Red Elemental Blast haying blue.

Same with divergent transformations, it makes a creature unconditionally become some unpredictable creature from the Aether, exiling is just a side effect of making it the same creature, just changing. Many times an effect that is traditionally out of colour is given for flavour and/or mechanical reasons such as Xathrid Slyblade, in which shroud (typically a blue green ability) is given to a card to portray the feeling of an assassin coming out of the shadows.

October 28, 2016 1:38 a.m.

miracleHat: I dunno, I'd argue that Ravos and Reyhan could work pretty well together as a sweet Abzan reanimator deck. Also, Tana and Sidar work well together to go wide in Naya tokens.

October 28, 2016 3:22 a.m.

Chandrian says... #44

We've got some sweet reprints so far, the way I see it:

Iroas, God of Victory -> Saskia the Unyielding

Zedruu the Greathearted -> Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis

Sydri, Galvanic Genius, Daretti, Scrap Savant, Hanna, Ship's Navigator -> Breya, Etherium Shaper

So far I don't think there are any legendary reprints for Atraxa, Praetors' Voice or Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder... what are your thoughts on who they'll get as legendary reprints ? (they reprint Daretti, so it might even be a planeswalker, altough not very likely)

October 28, 2016 6:06 a.m.

Sloanan says... #45

@DemonDragonJ: I do! That was actually the very first thing I thought of when I saw the artwork!

@Chandrian: Well if they're printing Daretti for Breya, then I'd be almost a little disappointed if they didn't print at least a previous commander planeswalker for Atraxa. For Yidris I'd could see the old Maelstrom Wanderer getting a reprint since it ties so well into the theme of the deck.

Named_Tawyny says... #46

Where are people seeing these reprints? They're not up on Mythic Spoiler yet?

Mythic only showed the actual "new cards".

October 28, 2016 8:04 a.m.

Anybody know a good site to go to that shows all spoiled cards in an easy to view page?

Phaetion says... #50

DemonDragonJ: Aside from what Simon_Williamson already said, red is about randomness. The fact that the 2 creatures that get RFG'd are replaced by new creatures at random is red enough. Sure, Polymorph effects have historically existed in blue but red raises the stakes by making you get creatures from the top rather than deep in the library.
