I'm excited for U/R/b spells. This Standard will be awesome if the top two decks become unfavoured.

Oops. Wrong forum, lol.

elpokitolama says... #4

Well, zombie tribal would be a merfolk 2.0... but it is much slower, since all of its best cards are 3 drops. I don't know if it will work in modern :/

Hey Nef, it's been a while! n.n

Nef says... #5

I don't think it would be near tier 1 but perhaps interesting. And yes I've lurked for a while.

EpicFreddi says... #6

Well if you play g/b you might aswell play Rock. Or just splash for coco and birds.

tlhunter07 says... #7

Is any form of Jeskai still viable (i.e. Kiki-Jiki, Nahiri)? Thanks!

April 13, 2017 9:54 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #8

Kiki is out of flavor, Nahiri is still good. Str8 control might be the best way to go, even though the redsplash for bolt is just not worth it at the moment.

April 13, 2017 10:08 a.m.

tlhunter07 says... #9

Well ya, I have Jeskai Draw Go built except for Scalding Tarn, and am working toward Jeskai Nahiri.

April 13, 2017 10:11 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #10

Manglehorn is a great card against affinity to drop T2.

April 15, 2017 4:43 p.m.

except its a three-drop...? Unless you mean with mana dorks out

April 16, 2017 1:25 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #12

Yes, with mana dorks out. I don't play decks without dorks.

April 16, 2017 5:55 a.m.

EverythingIsK says... #13

Simian Spirit Guide is the only mana dork I would ever use.

Also, this mardu thing makes me happy.

April 16, 2017 4:01 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #14

Finishing up building Sun/Moon. Didn't think that red/white superfriends would be the premier control deck in the format, next to lantern control, but here we are.

Anyway, does anyone havens Emrakul, or some Leyline of Sanctity's for trade? Last cards I'm missing.

April 16, 2017 9:15 p.m.

I'm pretty sure UW holds that title

April 16, 2017 10:55 p.m.

tlhunter07 says... #16

Does anyone know of any 1-drop mana dorks besides Birds and Heirarch?

What color do you need to ramp? Depending on that, I can give you other ideas.

APPLE01DOJ says... #20

So I've been toying with this deck for the last couple days.

Mana Hate

Modern* APPLE01DOJ

It works pretty good game 1, but if on the draw game 2 it pretty much falls flat on it's face.

I had an idea to rearrange the mana base into a U/G mana base not using any shocks or basics and then MB Choke and maybe Tarmogoyf. Does any one think this is a good idea?

April 17, 2017 1:05 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #21

Well running mainboard choke in a deck with sixteen islands is certainly ambitious, though I guess it depends on what kind of help your deck needs. If I were running what was basically a mono blue control deck, I'd be looking to run aetherling.

April 17, 2017 1:30 p.m.

rothgar13 says... #22

If you're looking to prison your opponents out, I would recommend looking at lock pieces like Chalice of the Void and Ensnaring Bridge. Those will make it very difficult for your opponent to win, and then you can dig for a wincon at your leisure.

April 17, 2017 1:39 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #23

kyuuri117 I'd change the mana base to 0 islands

April 17, 2017 1:48 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ- I think pairing red with blue would give you the best land hate cards in modern. Blood Moon, Molten Rain, and Crumble to Dust along with the blue enchantments and counterspells seems better than adding green. You could then combo your blue enchantments with a Boil for awesome land hate lol. I often play RG Ponza in modern and can attest to how great LD can be :)

April 17, 2017 3:11 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #25

If you want to do land hate why not just play G/R ponza? It's even got a new madcap experiment package

April 17, 2017 3:37 p.m.

Bovine073 says... #26

Ohthenoises why haven't I heard about this package? is it just the emperion?

April 17, 2017 11:31 p.m.

Yeah, it's just Madcap Experiment + Platinum Emperion. Ponza is likely the best fit for it, since you can cast it on turn 2 and are capable of casting Emperion as well if need be. Backing that up with LD makes it even harder for your opponent's to assemble a win through the Emperion.

subrosian says... #28

Does anyone think this could compete at all in Modern? Just at an FNM level, probably.

Horror Beyond the Mountains of Madness

I'm assuming that decks playing both Inquisition of Kozilek and Abrupt Decay are going to be brutal matchups, but I'm really just trying to make Thing in the Ice  Flip work in Modern. I haven't really played the format in quite some time so I'm kind of trying to get a feel for it.

April 18, 2017 12:27 a.m.

tlhunter07 says... #29

Does anyone think there's room in Esper Control for some sort of finsiher like Tasigur, the Golden Fang?

April 23, 2017 5:35 p.m.

No. Esper Control gains some power from blanking a lot of removal. Tasigur would just eat removal from other decks. Also weakens Logic Knot if decks still play that.

April 23, 2017 9:59 p.m.

You could build your deck differently and play Tasigur. I don't know how good it would be, but there's definitely a version out there that can play Tasigur. Maybe Monastery Mentor.

April 24, 2017 1:23 a.m.

bijschjdbcd says... #32

I don't believe that to be a completely correct statement.

The only controlling deck in the whole format that has posted consistent results in a Modern tournament is Grixis. Tasigur is the backbone of that deck and helps with all of the worst matchups. It also dodges a lot of the removal being played at the moment.

Here's this week's modern tiered list update!

It'll stay relatively stable since no changes to the ban list for us. May we put our legacy players in our prayers.

Rekt.

Bovine073 says... #38

kameenook he only needs 5 mana for that play. He doesn't need to get a land, just needs revolt trigger.

April 26, 2017 12:04 p.m.

tlhunter07 says... #39

I'm in the process of building control, and the only peices I'm missing are the Esper Charm, Polluted Delta, 2 Fatal Push, 2 Surgical Extraction, and three Thoughtseize. Anyone got any of those in their trade binders?

April 29, 2017 2:45 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #40

Esper control can run a really effective Death's Shadow package as well.

Orzhov Charm + DS being the only two sets you'd really need.

April 29, 2017 3:16 p.m.

tlhunter07 says... #41

Yeah, I may build that once I finish my Draw-Go deck.

April 29, 2017 7:26 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #42

So I haven't really played modern in a few months (basically since Death's Aggro took off). I'm bringing this to a ~100 person modern tournament tomorrow, and would appreciate some last minute critiques / hints as to what I should expect in the meta. Thanks!

April 29, 2017 10:12 p.m.

tlhunter07 says... #43

I'd put in some Ensnaring Bridge if it were me. Although with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn its debatable. Definitely a couple in the side though. Otherwise, that looks great! Good luck at your event!

tlhunter07 says... #45

Wow... No one has been on this in weeks! Wondering it it's better to build Esper Control or Grixis Control without AV. Thanks!

May 23, 2017 7:58 p.m.

Bovine073 says... #46

Right now with the meta, I'd say Esper.

May 24, 2017 1:41 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #47

Personally if I were to build Esper I'd definitely try to play/improve the Esper Death's Shadow build.

Orzhov Charm + DS is incredibly strong, and when supported by a control shell I feel like it's extremely good. That being said, the current iterations of the deck need work.

Well I do play a buncha Sphinx's Rev!

Does anyone have any experience playing the UR Gifts/Storm deck? I have finally assembled all the cards for it and am looking to pick up a few pointers on how to play/SB with it. Here's my list for reference: UR Gifts Storm feat. Baral Thanks!
