Help with pestilence deck

Deck Help forum

Hi,

I'm returning to magic after a long time absent. When I was a kid I made a deck that was built around Pestilence and I had a great time with. I use to use it in a White/Black deck where all the creatures had protection from black, and also had Urza's Armor and another white enchantment I don't remember to protect be from the player damage from Pestilence .

I really enjoyed it, but I used to play in school with my friends only. Since I like to do my own deck and not copy the ones other people made, I was wondering if there was a way of making a decent deck with this combination.

Any ideas on how to make this deck work?

Pestilence s are awesome. There's even Pestilence Demon which is your favorite enchantment on a big flying demon. Crypt Rats also exists as a 1 shot boardwipe.

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth will help your Plains produce black, while making something like Crusading Knight huge! Stillmoon Cavalier would be an auto-include in a BW Pestilence deck.

You also no longer have to play Black either! Pyrohemia does the exact same thing with less class.

Stuffy Doll is definitely a fun inclusion for a Pestilence deck. Cho-Manno, Revolutionary might be good, if you expect to come up against a lot of red decks.

My buddy has had this deck since forever too. White Knight , Order of Leitbur , Order of the White Shield , and stuff like that was the old way.

You can add Mirran Crusader , and White Shield Crusader

Which sorcerys and instant spells would you recommend? Is there some artifacts or enchantments I can use to prevent Pestilence from damaging me? Urza's armor is an option, but it cost 6 mana to cast.

naynay666 I loved the Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Crusading Knight combination. But Tomb of Yawgmoth is too expensive :( is there any other card that does the same but is a little less expensive?

To prevent the damage from Pestilence , you could try something as simple as Circle of Protection: Black .

The thing is, I would have to play 1 mana for every swamp I pay with pestilence. Since it says "next time".

I was thinking, since pestilence hits every player in the board, I should focus on gaining life and then kill my opponent with my creatures that survive pestilence. Maybe Celestial Mantle ?

If you play Celestial Mantle , as a 6 drop, you might as well just play Urza's Armor . It an opponent has a way of just chump blocking, you'll never get the life. A form of lifelink would be more reliable, and probably the better option. In this case, if you still want a 6 cmc, I'd play with True Conviction .

Evil Presence + Filth ?

Cemetery Gate and Spirit of the Night are your only problack black dudes.

Nightmare , Squelching Leeches , and Korlash, Heir to Blackblade can all outlive Pestilence if you stay monoblack. Lashwrithe and Nightmare Lash would then deserve slots. Bubbling Muck is another good one.

Urza's Armor is expensive, but probably worth it. Hedron-Field Purists is similar but might be riskier investment.

Maybe I could also use Vengeful Archon , but it takes too much mana to cast, I would like this deck to kind of aggro. Kill my opponents fast with little creatures.

Maybe Exsanguinate would by nice to finish them faster and gain some lifes (I usually play casual with 3 mates).

Also Sphere of Grace could help me prevent the damage from Pestilence , right?

Thanks for you help :)

Yes, Sphere of Grace prevents Pestilence damage.

Ok, so do you think it would be better to go with the Sphere of Grace or Urza's Armor ?

Some other cards I could use are Ragged Veins , Soul Link , Treacherous Link , Duskrider Falcon , Culling the Weak and Renewed Faith

I think Tainted Sigil is a must. Is there a cheap tutor I could include? After all, I depend on Pestilence for winning the game.

Cheers

I could also use Withering Wisps and get snow covered swamps and save myself the tutors, or use Diabolic Tutor to search for Pestilence or Sphere of Grace when one of those is missing.

Using Pariah on one of my protection from black creatures would be another way of protecting myself. Maybe Darkest Hour would help me deal with the creatures that can't be killed with Pestilence

I'm kind of excited by this deck. Assuming it's going to be White/Black, which one would you consider must-use cards?
