Can someone explain why I keep seeing Roger as a Tier1 commander? I get he's a guaranteed t1 drop/free saccable creature, but can someone explain some Magical Christmas land opening hands that can make him go nuts? I can see how Ardenn would help him pop off but is there some crazy Silas partner shenanigans I'm missing?
The best I can surmise is that when partnered with Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist, he's a cost Commander with a equip cost, making him super sturdy Voltron Commander.
But you're in Boros so good luck, you know, drawing enough cards to win. Though white does have artifact tutor and red does have (albeit limited) ways to return artifacts from the graveyard. So these combined do make it possible to bounce back quickly.
EDH.rec listed 907 decks like this.
I wouldn't personally consider this to be "cEDH", but hey what do I know. I've only built several decks that have won between Turn 2 and Turn 4 in the past.
Just not my cup of whisky and / or choccy milk

He is used in multiple ways to get out a fastAd Nauseam, some examples are Paradise Mantle, Culling the Weak and Springleaf Drum in all of these it helps to get fast black pips in hopes for a t1-t3 Ad Nauseam

I don't keep up with cedh at all just play casual with a group of friends but going off what TypicalTimmy said I'd assume it is because he is a turn one first strike, menace, trample so built in evasion and will surely land commander damage early on. Paired with Colossus Hammer you are looking at a win in 2-3 combat steps perhaps one if you slap double strike on him.
If you want to take Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh in another direction he is a guaranteed cheerio. Pair him Crimson Kobolds and Cloudstone Curio and you can get infinite etb or cast triggers. So with Birgi, God of Storytelling Flip or Impact Tremors you can get infinite mana or infinite damage respectively.
So a potential magical hand you are looking for in cast order is:
- Mana Crypt: Use to cast...
- Birgi, God of Storytelling Flip
- Crimson Kobolds: Use to cast...
- Sol Ring: Use to cast...
- Cloudstone Curio: Cast Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh and bounce Crimson Kobolds to get mana from Birgi (Repeat and use to cast...)
- Impact Tremors:Win
Alternatively for Combat damage
- Jeweled Lotus: Cast Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist
- Mana Crypt: Use to cast...
- Mana Vault: use to cast...
- Colossus Hammer
- Mountain: Use to cast...
- Boots of Speed: Cast Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh equip with everything for free he is now an 11/11 doublestrike turn one with haste that is 22 cmdr damage
If I did everything correctly these are two turn one wins but I may have messed up somewhere but you get the gist of it.

I realize I completely misread your comment, ignore my prior message
However, here is a magical Christmas hand
Cast rog Play the land Play the mana-positive card Tap the land to cast Culling the Weak sacrificing rog Cast the Ad Nauseam Most likely win using either Thassa's Oracle or Brain Freeze+Underworld Breach

Works well with so many things but many of the lists I'm seeing have been some form of Polymorph into Tidespout Tyrant. Partner, Strong colors available, versatile in the sense that it makes a lot of other cards usful and has combo potential - it has all the things a teir 1 deck should.

He's also great for a turn 1 Fierce Guardianship and Deflecting Swat. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, yet. So if you have say a Dark Ritual, Mana Vault, Ad Nauseam and fetch in hand alongside some of that nice free protection, you can win on the first turn.
