I relatively new to magic (about one years in) but one thing I like about it is hearing how different people enjoy the game whether that be the strategy, flavor, or mechanic.I specifically like to hear their favorite card or pet card(either,or) as I feel it gives good insight how they enjoy the game.personally my pet card is Calamity, Galloping Inferno i just really like the flavor and ability even if it can be mana extensive at times. so I would love to hear what other people like and why. (side note: although it has nothing do with the pet card question you can also include what your favorite color identity is for what it does or how it represents yourself, sorry if this sounds personality quiz-ish I just like knowing and sharing.representitive of myself is Naya and occasionally jund or golgari)
thank you all those cards look so fun to play and I appreciate you sharing. I can see how artifacts can do that for you ,although not my go to most of the time as the person who taught me magic was big on me if having any permanents try to make them stay(more enchantments then anything or permanents that your just going to blink or sacrifice, he is a big control player) but I did build a Umori, the Collector artifact storm deck as well of thinking of building a Rendmaw, Creaking Nest
artifact deck. One card I saw from your pickings that I have never seen but now is calling me to put in some decks is Boarded Window again thank you for sharing and for the warm welcome.

Hi, and welcome to the community here! Pet cards are always so fun, and it's been a pretty great experience to play over the years and have my pet cards list evolve : )
One of my favorite things in magic is spot removal, and unconventional choices of it. Having to save my resources and make decisions on what to remove really makes the game feel like an expanding puzzle to me.
Some of my favorite pet removal cards are
Savage Swipe I have an entire deck built around casting this as much as possible and double dipping as removal and buff.
Tragic Slip A somewhat situational card, but it takes out everything. I love flavor wise that Blightsteel Colossus can just slip and fall and head right to the graveyard.
Cast Out I've played this card a lot and it's versatility makes it one of those "this is exactly what I needed" draws late game. And it can always just be cycled in the early game if I have another plan going.
Fumiko the Lowblood Can be a brutal removal creature in an aggro deck, taking out their creatures and making them tap all blockers.
Dire Fleet Poisoner I just love the original Ixalan pirates, and flash deathtouch always hits something good.
Mutiny in commander I find that this card always pays off. It's very situational, but the situation of your opponent having two creatures almost always comes up. In my experience, it almost always does more damage than a Lightning Bolt and in EDH I wouldn't really be bolting players anyways.
Lava Dart the cost of saccing a land sounds so steep, but I've won quite a few games now just destroying my own land base at the very end. And I like that because of the recursion, I'm free to cast it early game from hand to hit small threats.

Rule of Law hinders combo decks and shuts down storm entirely.

those all look pretty nice Tragic Slip i find hilarious all good except Blightsteel Colossus(sorry grudge against poison I despise it i'd rant on it but that's for another time) and I can see how playing situational cards could give you a dopamine burst like"hey you yeah you have this specific thing on your board well to bad for you death" i feel like it adds salt to any wound you afflict and thank you for the warm welcome

yeah I see that Rule of Law being aggravating and fun just telling everyone hey we're playing some nice fair magic so lets enjoy it(more specifically their agony).

Welcome to the club! I've only started playing EDH for 2 years now but started my journey a long time ago. I've been loving Sultai and graveyard decks a lot recently. Ripples of Undeath has been my favorite card since MH3 released. One person in my group uses Rest in Peace in every deck he can now and I wonder if it's because of me lmao. I doubt it. I hate that card haha
One pet card of mine is Torrent Elemental. I know it might be trash now and it can only go in so many decks but I love it.
It's kind of a silly card because I know there's better options but I find myself using Ever-Watching Threshold quite a bit.

Thankyou for the welcome. I actually started out with sultai being my favorite my second deck was the mothman precon love it even if I couldn't get the full graveyard experience from.Torrent Elemental is something I think even if there are better options its a good card all around played in your graveyard decks thats hard to keep away and really cripples some peoples strategy(looking at you pillow forts) and I love the art and flavor of it.

I like games where the power balance of the board shifts a lot between players from one turn to the next, keeping people guessing how it will ultimately turn out. I enjoy catching people off guard. I also tend to gravitate to sacrifice and graveyard recursion strategies so there are a few cards that tend to show up in my deck lists, at least until I start refining.
Whenever I build a deck with blue I like to see if Domineering Will fits in the list. I like how flexible it is and how it can really mess up an opponent's plans. You can be political and save an opponent if they agree to block how you want them too, often getting rid of a bunch of annoying creatures at once. You can give yourself surprise blockers. You can play it before combat to basically fog an opponent's three strongest creatures for a turn. If you have a way to give haste then you can snag three additional attackers. And if you have a free sacrifice outlet then it basically lets you kill three creatures at instant speed for just 4 mana.
Shriekmaw ends up in a lot of my black decks. The sacrifice trigger off of the evoke cost lets it nab extra value off of cards like Grave Pact and Morbid Opportunist. It's a creature that you can blink or recursion loop to kill multiple creatures over the course of a game. It's an evasive creature that might be able to help push through some last few points of damage. You can tutor for it off of Birthing Pod to kill something and then sac it the next turn to tutor up something else. You can also evoke it and then sacrifice it in response to its sacrifice trigger to Soldevi Adnate to give yourself a quick burst of mana ramp.
Necromancy is fun for its ability to grab a sudden blocker or utility creature out of any graveyard at instant speed to catch opponents off guard. The built-in sac effect when you cast it at instant speed can be relevant to get death triggers, like off of Protean Hulk. Since it's an enchantment form of reanimation you can also run it as backup for Animate Dead in Leonin Relic-Warder combos.

Some time ago I tried this exercise (not originally by me, but I can't recall whose idea it was) to make my own "Spellbook" (based on a product by Wotc, they released Jace's, Gideon's and Chandra's)
Try to summarize your MtG carreer in eight cards, don't forget to add your personal fav!

SaberTech I absolutely love Soldevi Adnate and it's awesome to see it mentioned! I've had it in decks before and it almost always draws removal due to how much value it accrues over turns, and even when it does get removed, you can activate it to itself and it pays back instantly.

Oh yes, Soldevi Adnate, a favorite of mine as well. And the flavor text! Mwah! By the by, this reminds me, mods? We need to update cards for their Oracle ruling.

Niko9 You need the right deck for Soldevi Adnate to really shine but I think that it is underplayed in commander. I ran it in a Chainer, Dementia Master deck and it put in a ton of work in that list.

Oh, and not really a pet card, but I've come to really love equipment artifacts in EDH. Ever since I built an equip deck I've seen how valuable they are in an aggro strategy, having the investment of equips on the board when wipes hit makes the build back up so much faster.
Something like Umezawa's Jitte gets so much value over a game, pumping attacks, picking off mana dorks, and I never have any problem re equipping it if the creatures gets removed because it's always worth another 2.

Temple of the False God is my favorite pet card. Despite it being arguably bad a lot of the time, getting to play a land that taps for 2 for "free" always felt too good to pass up

yes i love Temple of the False God even though people say its terrible i still like it.

Welcome aboard!! I’ve played a long time, and really don’t have just one favorite color… though I might like artifacts the most. I’m heavy into theme and the flavor of mechanics, and a lot of artifacts scratch that itch. Some of my all-time faves are Boarded Window, Artificer's Hex, Callous Oppressor, Goblin Kites, Cyclone, and Shield Bearer. There’s one for each color lol. The mechanics of magic are amazing, and provide a competition that may be entirely unparalleled… but there’s just as much elbow room for D&D/rpg-type fun as well. Lots of room for creativity!! Again, I’m excited you’re here!!
