Who do you think is the best legend for a mill themed deck? Additionally, what cards would you consider to be staples in a mill-edh?

Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker comes to mind. I also kinda like Lazav, Dimir Mastermind . Not to sure about staples, but you should check here: List of EDH Staples and Power Cards

i agree with SniperFrog... if you want a decent Milling Commander, Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker is always a good idea. i am sure there are some out there better, but he is still great.

Oona, Queen of the Fae is also a really great mill commander. Add in an Altar of Dementia and Scion of Oona to double the sac effect of the tokens...
Mind Grind
is great for it's each opponent clause.

or even Geth, Lord of the Vault , mill and steal cards from theyre graveyard :D
July 13, 2013 10:17 p.m.
Geth is good for the deck, but not a good general since he'll cut you out of the good blue mill cards with his mono black color identity.
Wrexial, the Risen Deep is also a great card to put in the deck but not necessarily a great general for the deck.

Szadek, Lord of Secrets is amazing if he can get big enough.

Anything that can Traumatize + Keening Stone . But Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker and Oona, Queen of the Fae are the better ones.

Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker is by far the best mill commander in my opinion...
But you already knew my opinion ;D

A friend of mine runs a wicked Lazav, Dimir Mastermind deck. Obviously you need access to Dimir colors; as great as Geth, Lord of the Vault is, you don't have access to blue, which is... regrettable. He's better as an inclusion in the Lazav deck.
Cards like Mind Grind , Trepanation Blade , Nemesis of Reason , Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker , Traumatize , Memory Erosion , Mesmeric Orb , Dreamborn Muse , and so forth, let you transform Lazav into something amazing fairly quickly. My buddy loves to do turn 4 (or 3) Lazav, turn 5 Traumatize into Avacyn, at which point I generally fold. He has made me rethink playing awesome creatures in my decks, because he inevitably gets to play them more often than I do!

Lazav might be more your style, Alizer313, just because it has hexproof and he doesn't say the deck has to win via milling.
July 17, 2013 4:40 p.m.
He doesnt mill himself, but I believe mimeoplasm is the best general for a deck centered around mill.
July 19, 2013 12:11 a.m.
Mindcrank and Bloodchief Ascension combo is necessary because people play eldrazi with shuffle effects and you will never mill them out.
Unless you want to mill yourself, in which case you should play one of the graveyard generals

truble, there are more than enough ways to mill someone out with the two eldrazi. Some great examples are Leyline of the Void and Undead Alchemist .
July 19, 2013 10:32 a.m.
Im just saying you need something to stop that
Rest in Peace would do it
July 19, 2013 10:34 a.m.
Helm of Obedience + Leyline of the Void == ultimate mill win... exile their whole library for 5-9 mana (5 if you get leyline in your opening hand), 4 to cast helm, 1 to activate. Check helm's gather page if you doubt if x=1 is a win with these conditions.
July 19, 2013 10:38 a.m.
Of course, those cards are counter-intuitive if you're trying to take advantage of what is in your opponent's graveyard. Mimeoplasm would get annoyed by Eldrazi, but Lazav wouldn't mind it at all.
July 19, 2013 10:47 a.m.
It's a win condition tmloyd more than anything else, remember that. The stuff your talking about is another way to play, but this I play and think of as exclusive. If you're playing helm/leyline you plan to win now/soon (within a turn or two). Their graveyard stuff is immaterial and meant to get you to this point. Note, playing leyline later in the game does not exile the current graveyard, just stuff put in it after it goes into play.

But that's where multiple cards like Tormod's Crypt , Bojuka Bog , and Ravenous Trap come into play as spot graveyard removal.
July 19, 2013 11:30 a.m.
Actually, I was referring to Rest in Peace , Leyline of the Void , and Undead Alchemist as counter-Eldrazi mill strategies for Mimeoplasm and Lazav. Didn't even notice page 2, heh. Yeah, the Helm is cool.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Consuming Aberration yet.
Works as a reliable source of mill that hits all opponents, and as a powerful threat creature, as his P/T equal number of cards in all opponents graveyards combined.
July 31, 2013 9:57 a.m.
..From what I've seen, most of the good creatures for Mill have good Triggered abilities.
Perhaps Strionic Resonator ?
I can just imagine how fast Consuming Aberration gets huge when you gan get 3-4 players milling until they hit 2 land for each spell you cast... 3 players, x 2 land x 3 cards (assuming an average of about 1/3 land)... it should get an average of about +18/+18 for each spell you cast.
July 31, 2013 10:10 a.m.
Consuming Aberration cannot be a commander as it's not a legendary.... and pauper wdh requires an uncommon commander no rares....
July 31, 2013 12:12 p.m.
Kcin, Necro-Biologist Second part of the question asks "what cards would you consider to be staples in a mill-edh?" Aberration fits that nicely.

I'm thinking about building a zombie/mill deck using Nekusar, the Mindrazer as general including Lich Lord of Unx and Undead Alchemist ... What do people think?
December 12, 2013 6:03 p.m.
Both are great choices for mill in my opinion.
I've had an Undead Alchemist nail a guy for 42 off the top of their deck before. And I did not even go Zombie tribal.

Personally I run a Kami of the Crescent Moon commander mill deck. And people tend not to kill him too.

Mill is very hard to accomplish in EDH as there are plenty of Eldrazi such as Kozilek, Butcher of Truth kicking around, and many other shuffle effects, I've seen some self mill EDH decks around that focus on playing Labratory Maniac as the win-con

I use Damia, Sage of Stone in my mill/control EDH deck and she works pretty well. I was going to use one of the U/B mill legends but I wanted to add green in there so that I can ramp and get the X spells more quickly and make them even bigger. However I'm not well-versed in EDH, so it may just work in my playgroup. Regardless, feel free to check out my deck if you'd like: This BUG Squishes Windshields. .
