Merfolk without
Master of Waves
. Dies to any non-red removal and is clunky. Wants you to curve out perfectly.
This makes the drawback from
Deprive
worse. Cutting
Master of Waves
helps us playing more interactively. Leaving up Mana and play on instant without having
Aether Vial
up.
Lowering our curve reduces our landcount. So we can almost always operate on 1-2 mana.
Deprive
has a unique synergy with
Benthic Biomancer
. You can counter a spell and bounce an
Island
to your hand for Benthic Biomancer. And because we lowered the curve this is not a huge drawback because we might draw into a better card with
Benthic Biomancer
. If not, we can always play the land again because we don't need to curve out to 4.
Vendilion Clique
as a 1-of should be almost always castable. It's a good body with card draw, information and hand disruption. It might be more effective in lists with
Master of Waves
and
Wizard's Retort
but it's nonetheless a very versatile card.
Vapor Snag
helps you set your opponents back and deal with annoying things like
Thing in the Ice
. You can save your own creatures from removal and play them again for value. For example, bounce
Silvergill Adept
end of turn and vial it in again to draw a card.
Echoing Truth
can get value out of boardwipes because we can save our lords for example. It can also deal with any non-land permanent. The ability to bounce multiple copies of
Arclight Phoenix
back to hand or bounce a
Ensnaring Bridge
can be game changing. Because we lowered our landcount, we can also cut
Venser, Shaper Savant
from the Sideboard and just bounce our creatures back in response to
Supreme Verdict
.
I think that might focus our proactive plan while always interacting with our opponent.
Chalice of the Void
in the Sideboard instead of 4
Ceremonious Rejection
maybe. This card barely disadvantages us and can be a huge blowout for Izzet Phoenix, Tron with all their eggs, Affinity, any As Foretold Deck and Burn. Just to name a few.
