Modern scavenge deck looking for opinions. Idea is simple, put big scavenge value creatures in the yard, and scavenge them onto a big flier or clear the way with spot removal. This is my first attempt at modern, and would like some feedback.
Key card choices:Varolz, The Scar-Striped: He makes this deck breathe. Get some fat low drops in the yard, then scavenge onto himself or a flier for a quick demise. Regeneration is nice.
Vault Skirge: Great for the mana curve, and an excellent target for scavenge. Lifelink also is amazing on a 14/14 flier.
Vexing Devil
: Awesome pick in here. Burns opponents in the face, while unsuspectingly punishing them for doing it when I scavenge 4 +1/+1 counters for R.
Death's Shadow: The ultimate scavenge target. When I realized he is 13/13 in all zones except the battlefield, I was inspired to do this. His ability is even a built in discard effect. And in one horrendous game, I brought him out as an 11/11 and took back a game from 2 life.
Dark Confidant: Dem beats and card advantage, yo.
Slumbering Dragon
: Sideboard tech. He haults aggro, when scavenged upon, gets out of control very fast with his evasion, and also provides fair scavenge value for his cost.
Avatar of Discord
: Another ideal flying scavenge target, with the power to discard scavenge targets.
Grisly Salvage
: EOT, ,salvage Death's Shadow in to the yard. Play Varolz and scavenge onto Vault Skirge. 14/14 flies over for the win.
Liliana of the Veil: Removal, card advantage, helps to fill your own grave, this is a sexy * in this deck.
The removal: Lightning Bolt, Go for the Throat, Abrupt Decay,- Self Explanatory.
Big concerns:- How is the mana base? I curve out at 3, is 18 lands enough with fetches?- Do I have enough removal, or are there better options in the CMC range? I'm scared that if I can't land it, I will fall behind to bigger creatures.- Is Vampire Nighthawk a good choice for this? I picked him for lifelink and flying but I feel this slot could be used for something better.- What kind of sideboard should I prepare? I am thinking
