All Dragons possess immense power but none like Dragonlord Atarka!

All Dragons possess immense power but none like Dragonlord Atarka!

This deck is not only built around brute strength, savagery, and OP Dragons, but SPEED!

There is no real win-con other than getting out fast with OP dragons and thrashing your opponent, our best Dragons are Thunderbreak Regent who deals 3 damage every time an opponent targets one of our Dragons with a spell, Thundermaw Hellkite who is great for removing or detaining (for a turn) flying chop blockers when he enters as well as being a 5/5 with haste Atarka, World Render who give all attacking Dragons Double Strike, Savage Ventmaw who gives us every time he attacks, and Dragonlord Atarka who is a 7 drop 8/8 with flying (obviously) and Trample that deals 5 damage as you choose among any number of target creatures and/or Planeswalkers (max 5). These fatties get all the glory but the reason this deck works is the insane amount of ramp we can get quickly.

Ramp:

Dragonlord's Servant: not a bad blocker early and knocks off for Dragon creatures we cast.

Elvish Mystic: your basic 1 drop Elf that taps for a great turn 1 play.

Somberwald Sage: My favorite and the Ramp Goddess, she is a 3 drop but being able to tap for 3 mana of any one color to play creatures means a turn 3-4 Dragon is a good possibility.

Pyretic Ritual: not a creature but again, 3 mana makes a turn 2 Thunderbreak Regent a possibility after we have played an Elvish Mystic turn 1.

The best hand I belive you can start with is

Turn 1: Play Forest, Elvish Mystic.

Turn 2: Play Mountain/Rootbound Crag, Somberwald Sage.

Turn 3: Land for the Turn, Dragon (preferably an Atarka, World Render or Dragonlord Atarka.

turn 4: Thundermaw Hellkite, swing out.

Turn 5: New dragon, Swing, Win.

Gearing up for Modern on Wednesday — March 27, 2016

Played multiple of my friends decks over the weekend, some being modern legal and others not. I destroyed a populate deck before anything could be done to stop me. I beat a U/W enchantment deck with some removal like Detention Spheres, a few counters, Dazzling Reflection, and a card that destroys target attacking creatures. It slowed me down but it was nothing once I got out some creatures. I won all 3 games against it using my Thunderbreak Regent's ability, Destructive Revelry, and Leyline of Lifeforce (which ended up in my opening hand too, how badass) . After those I took on a U/W flyer deck and was too quick for it as well getting out Dragonlord Atarka, Savage Ventmaw, and Thundermaw Hellkite all at the same time! Wednesday I'm hitting up my first local Modern tourney with this deck and I'll be sure to post an update, any more advice would be great!
