Aether Revolt Update —Jan. 26, 2017

Sorry for the delay in getting this update out. Life happens and I've been dealing with some issues with my house, so it's been occupying all my time and mental energy.

But, now I have gotten some time to go through the deck and see what I can take out and what I can put in. These updates have *NOT* been tested yet, and are basically "theorycrafting" per say. Hopefully these changes will make the deck better, or at the very least, more fun for us. So, let us get on with the changes.

OUT:

IN:

I decided to try something a little different with these updates. Instead of hiding behind Stax effects to protect Daretti, I wanted to try and make it a little more explosive. So I took out the Orbs/Omens synergy as well as Arbiter in order to make room for some new stuff. Gauntlet was removed as we really don't need the extra mana when we run a bunch of rocks, and can also weld back our bigger stuff. I haven't needed Recoup in a long time, so that was a safe cut. Fire Diamond was a safe cut since we don't really want our rocks to come in tapped and unable to be used until next turn.

Fellwar is back in as it is a rock that comes into play untapped, and can possibly make red if we need (if someone can produce red). Chain Veil is also back in and will hopefully synergize well with Paradox. As far as Paradox goes, I'm not too sure it's a good fit in here yet, as our deck isn't built to abuse it like some other decks, but being able to reuse Veil, Bridge, and other effects may prove to be useful. Planar Bridge is another one I'm not too sure on yet. We can grab any permanent and put it directly into play, which could prove vital for when we are in a pinch, or when we need a combo piece. We can abuse its effect with Paradox and enough rocks/spells to put a bunch of things into play, or infinite mana plus Rings/Key to do the same, but get all of our permanents. Heart of Kiran can make for a decent blocker and can be crewed with Daretti in a pinch. Pia's Revolution is like a mini Combustible so synergizes very well with the deck. Trawler is a better Junk Diver/Myr Retriever as it works with all of our artifacts.

LTmiller: What cards are you missing/thinking about getting?

LTmiller: Oofta! Going after the big guns, huh? Lol. Do you mind me asking how much you have to work with or willing to spend?

Guerte If I get the workshop, I wouldn't be getting anything else. lol. If I get the Bazaar of Baghdad I might get the Gauntlet of Might... Does that put it into perspective for ya brotha man? Like, I'd like to do less than $1000.

LTmiller: No problem! I took care of it.

So, here are my opinions on all four cards you're looking at getting:

Imperial Recruiter: Fetches all of our ultilty creatures with power 2 or less, most notably Goblin Welder, Squee, Goblin Nabob, and Metalworker. Welder and Squee are more important, in my opinion, and they're both Goblins, so you can use Goblin Matron as a replacement for now.

Bazaar of Baghdad: An amazing card that helps us dig and pitch cards even faster, and isn't a spell so it can't be countered. I don't necessarily think it's a staple for the deck, but is definitely a good addition if you can get a hold of one at a decent price. Geier Reach Sanitarium makes a good budget replacement, but it isn't nearly as powerful.

Gauntlet of Might: While having the extra mana is nice, with the amount of rocks we run, it isn't really necessary to have in the deck. I've been contemplating removing it myself, especially once AER releases.

Mishra's Workshop: Beings we are essentially an artifact deck that splashes red, this land is extremely bonkers in the deck. This and Metalworker on turn 1 is nuts! There really isn't a good enough replacement for what this land provides.

So, if it were me and I had to choose, Workshop all of the way.

Guerte Gentleman and a scholar! Cheers, I'll let you know if there are any more questions, I'll also let you know when I'm ready to buy, and I'll fb message you. I'd probably be looking for mp-hp(ish) as I'm a cheap son of a gun. I am also not as familiar with the higher end market as it appears that you are lol...

LTmiller: I just happened upon good deals. I got my Workshop for around $400 at GP Minneapolis a couple years ago. And messaging me on Facebook is no problem!

Guerte I gotta say, this is one of the most well-done primers I've seen to date. I ended up snagging the Daretti precon somewhere a week ago for MSRP and built something similar (except the high-end cards, broke college student). I just play tabletop with some buddies that are hypercompetitive and adding this deck to my arsenal is great. Can't wait to see your AER adjustments man keep up the good work!

BPots6694: Thank you very much; I really appreciate that!

I will hopefully be getting up a quick review of possible inclusions within the week, but no official update until AER releases.

Hey Guerte have you snagged up any new tech yet? Looking forward to the AEther Revolt update!!!

LTmiller: I'm still trying to figure out what I wanna do with the AER cards. I'll try and get a review up of possible additions sometime today, but an official update won't be out until this Friday.

Aether Revolt Review

Well, I'm a little late in getting this review done, but it's better late than never, right?

With Kaladesh, we got some pretty good cards in Combustible Gearhulk and Quicksmith Genius that seemed to be made specifically for Daretti. I had high hopes for something that could take him to the next level, but unfortunately, I feel like that didn't happen.

We only get three cards that could possibly see play in Daretti, and only two will likely make the list, so let's take a look:

Pia's Revolution: This gem right here I feel can be bonkers for the deck. Anytime we weld something away, we will either get it back to our hand, thus gaining card advantage, or we will burn our opponent's in the face, which will help us get closer to winning, or help us keep Planeswalkers under control. I would definitely use caution with this, as it is our opponent's that get to choose what happens, so if we want something in the 'yard, we can't have this out. Other than that, I feel it is a solid card for the deck.

Scrap Trawler: A much better Myr Retriever/Junk Diver. Not only does it trigger up it dying, but any other artifact as well. If we get rid of our biggest artifacts, we can bring back almost any other artifact, or even another mana rock to help us cast our bigger stuff. I do see a good future with this card.

Treasure Keeper: This guy has some synergy with our ability to weld things, but with it being restricted to CMC 3 or less, we don't get to "Cascade" into any of our business artifacts, so I feel like he's a bit subpar and not worth the inclusion.

I'm having trouble finding a place for Contagion Engine in my own build. While my build is still in the works, I'm finding it difficult to take something like Myr Turbine out due to the heavy creature meta I'm in. DO you find it's necessary in the slower games? What times do you think it's best?

sdgundum990: It seems to me that if you are in a creature-heavy meta, you would rather have Contagion Engine over Myr Turbine in order to take care of their creatures, instead of making a chump blocker every turn.

Guerte Okay, so I had two opponents in a game, one's life total was 7, the other was at the full 40. I personally, at this point in time at least, run Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer and made infinite mana with a Grim Monolith because of Pia's Revolution...

I think we are not giving this card enough credit already...
