Do you have an decklist with the pricier cards in it?

I went on TCG and the deck was $50, something must have gone up

Elijahchu: I'm not sure how you got it quite that high. The problem is probably that you used the websites auto-fill-in program. The problem here is that it only uses lightly played and over quality cards in its search, no played / heavily played cards are included in the search, which is necessary to make this deck. Still, that shouldn't arrive at $50 but closer to $30-35 so I'm not exactly sure how.

CRRobbins: Sorry, the list in the description is all at this time.

I've found that there are actually a huge number of edh decks that can be built on a budget. Even for decks that I build entirely from scratch, I have never spent more than $50. I think the reason so many decks cost hundreds of dollars is because people just go with a bunch of $5-$15 "edh staples" rather than digging into gatherer to find cheap cards with powerful synergy.

Heia--- Thanks for this great deck !

I was wondering if this card could be a cheap addition: Bubbling Muck

I was also wondering... as you stated that with a higher budget your deck might look different what changes exactly you would do :)

craftfeld: It would become an entirely different deck, that's for sure. I already posted a huge list of upgrades in the description, but heres a slightly more detailed run-down.

First, remove all the infinite combos that go through combat. Add new infinite combos that don't generate power/toughness but instead trigger ETB/LTB effects and generate mana / draw / discard / lifeloss / lifegain etc.

So basically, remove all the "sacrifice a creature get +2/+2" and add cards like Phyrexian Altar, Ashnod's Altar, etc. Then add cards you can abuse with infinite recursion, and cards to make that recursion possible. Then you add every tutor possible, demonic tutor, vampiric tutor, beseech the queen, transmute tutors, hell the +$100 tutors too if you wanted to, no harm ever in more tutors. Then add all the black manadoublers, then all the good black lands, then all the good board control / boardwipe artifacts and a lot of the good manarocks. What you are left with is a deck that CAN win ridiculously fast, but is way stronger at dragging out to lategame and locking down the table / gaining a board position until you can combo out and kill anyone at your leisure.

I just made a deck to basicly act as an upgrade list. Mikaeus, the endless budget

Spencerbot15: Nice! Don't forget Vampiric Tutor, Oblivion Stone, Maze of Ith, Boseiju, Who Shelters All, Rune-Scarred Demon, Toxic Deluge, Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale and Imperial Seal!

Since it's an upgrade list I don't think you need to keep it exactly at 100 cards though.

Got some more cards for the build I'm fine-tuning and hadn't seen these discussed. Thought you might be interested. All are uber-budget friendly:

Deathgreeter + outlet + fodder = infinite life

Falkenrath Noble = Blood Artist for two more colorless

Scavenger Drake + outlet + fodder = infinite flyer past end of turn

Crypt of Agadeem = great potential mana ramp

Haunted Crossroads = get combo pieces back

Rite of Consumption = get your infinite damage past a chump blocker + infinite life

I forgot Palace Siege too

Sleazebag, I disagree that the deck has to be at exactly 100 cards. If my deck is the ultimate Mikaeus, the Unhallowed deck, it has to be exactly the right deck. Also, I thought Vampiric Tutor was banned.

Schmidty says... #12

100 cards is necessary for it to be a legal deck in EDH....

Sleazebag was saying his upgrade list doesn't have to be a full 100 cards.

hosshughes: Infinite life is great, but it doesn't win the game! In EDH there are many ways to win, and the most common ones are combo or voltron (21 commander damage > infinite life) so it isn't as great as it could be in this format. Think of it like this, Mikaeus vs Mikaeus, one player goes off and gains infinite life. The other Mikaeus player laughs, pumps his vampire to infinite/infinite+1 and kills him.

Falkenrath Noble is a nice card. I don't play it because it's 4 mana, but it could work. I really recommend adding Blood Artist to your deck though! It's $1.4 but easily worth it if you want some small upgrades.

Scavenger Drake is just too small and can't sacrifice creatures on its own!

Crypt of Agadeem usually does nothing as you rarely have that many creatures in your graveyard. It's good in a slower monoblack deck though.

Haunted Crossroads is nice but it doesn't compare to Phyrexian Reclamation or Strands of Night!

Rite of Consumption is a tricky one. It's a great card, I did run it in the deck for a while, but I decided to take it out for Essence Harvest. There are some scenarios where one is better than the other. The most obvious one is that getting your Rite of Consumption countered screws you over as you lost your huge creature for no gain, while Essence Harvest doesn't punish you as badly if it gets countered. On the other end, it costs 1 more mana, and it gives your opponent the opportunity to cast removal on your creature in response to your spell. This however can be circumvented by sacrificing your creature while the spell is on the stack, then making it an infinite/infinite all over again, then the spell resolves and still kills them. For that reason I prefer Essence Harvest but both are playable!

Palace Siege is awesome, but a bit mana intensive! Might try it out though (Once it goes out of standard and becomes cheaper).

Spencerbot15: As Schmidty said, what I meant was that a general upgrade list can be any number of cards. At least if it is meant to serve as a potential upgrade list where people can look to find upgrades for their deck in any price class.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but Skullclamp would be great for its drawing capabilities.

Okay, working on another section for the deck description.

It's going to explain HOW to get this deck for $20 (or around that price). There's a lot of people who complain about the price of magic cards but don't put in any work to get them cheaper. For example, this deck is listed at $44.65 at TCG (Medium) listing and so people just take that price for granted. On the other hand, there are other websites out there where I can find a single seller (Thus little shipping costs) who has 89/100 of the cards in this deck for sale for a total of $17. And that is ONE seller (zero work put into finding cheaper options).Cards with spanish and italian printing usually go for 50-70% of English versions. Use this to your advantage! If you are so tight for money, you take every opportunity you get!I'm just waiting for permission to add a link to a person before I post it.

Great deck idea! My suggested addition would be Murderous Redcap, for a Persist/Undying synergy. Combo it with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and any sac outlet and you have an infinite damage combo :D.

February 14, 2015 6:56 p.m.

Sleazebag says... #22

AlgeBrad: I wish! Murderous Redcap is a red card, so it isn't legal in a mono black EDH deck.Otherwise it would easily be one of the best cards in the deck.

And thanks to you others as well, now that I have added spoilers I can make the description far more detailed (and properly spaced) without flooding the page too much!

Also, far less scrolling needed on mobiles.

Just finished my "Guide to Budget deckbuilding" and put it in the description..

Man that took long to write. Hope people find it helpful (or even bother to read it).

I found another win condition. Flesh Allergy, have you every tried using it? What is the reason you took out Dictate of Erebos?

February 16, 2015 1:16 a.m.

Sleazebag says... #25

Squirrel_of_War: There is no reason to run Flesh Allergy.

Essence Harvest costs less, doesn't require them to have a creature in play, leaves your creature alive, AND gains you infinite life. There is another version at 2 mana which also works better.

As for Dictate of Erebos, I wish I could run it but I had to cut it for budget reasons. Definitely worth running.
