The Very Long Overdue Competitive Update —Sept. 5, 2022

Hey All,

So.... Yea, Life has been kinda wild and I have been putting off updating this deck for a very long time. Changed Careers, Moved Across the Country, etc.

The deck is basically about to get a huge overhaul, and a lot of High Cost but High power cards are removed. Controversially so, Even. With that in mind, here it is:

Lands:

Command Beacon, Kessig Wolf Run, 1 Mountain and Swamp, Treasure Vault ------------------------------------------> Haunted Ridge, Rockfall Vale, Bosenju, Who Endures, Ziatora's Proving Ground, Deathcap Glade

So I cant say too much beyond that I needed more color then utility lands, but further I do wanna make a note that these changes have overall eliminated any color issues the deck has faced. I also hate Treasure Vault outside of the "treasure build" and further I honestly hate all double X spells and abilities, etc. Just frustrating. However with these changes play has been smoother and never have had color issues.

Token Producers:

Beledros Witherbloom, Dragon Broodmother, Old Gnawbone -------------------------------------------------> Ophiomancer, Verdant Embrace, Professional Face-Breaker:

Yea, I wish I could support these massive dragons in my original sub-theme of dragons that produce tokens... but they are too expensive mana cost wise for competitive commander, not when I am already trying to hang in a cutthroat / competitive setting. While I am still a little iffy, I can proudly say that ophiomancer alone has done MAJOR work for me. It stays.

Shoring Up "Dead" good cards:

Burgeoning, Crucible of Worlds, Vraska, Relic Seeker ---------------------------------> Puppeteer Clique, Yahenni, Undying Partisan, Vivian on the Hunt:

So, Burgeoning and Crucible are super good cards..... However, I don't want to sacrifice my lands anymore just to do things. I feel its a bad play, as I don't have enough land recursion to justify it and cant replay them quick enough when I do. with Burgeoning, its often a dead card I am sacing anyway when my hand isn't full of lands, which happens very occasionally esp late or early game. With this, These swaps allow me to not only provide "more" of what I already want, but can help advance the deck further. the Clique not only provides yet another persist trigger combo target, but also allows me to steal good creatures out of my opponents yards, which just means I have more fodder to sac as well. Its been a very smooth card overall, and Yahenni (whilst I did take it out) mis just too good of a sac outlet to deny, especially when it can grow huge AND can protect itself from death at instant speed.

Vraska is a card I am sad to switch out, BUT I do think that the new Vivian has a ton of combo potential, as well as its mill effect possibly letting me draw creatures. It also makes tokens, 4/4/ rhinos aint nothing to snuff at, but it does make me feel bad as they are both the same cost, I just think that Vivian feels better versus Vraska, as I have never used her ult and mainly would use it JUST for removal. I feel that the combo potential outweighs the incidents where Vraska is good, but then only makes a token. We shall see if this holds out.

The Recursion Suite:

Dictate of Erebos, Dread Pact, Tireless Provisioner, Sylvan Safekeeper ----------------------------------------> Dread Return, Living Death, Riveteers Ascendancy, Endurance

Every Jund Deck needs a decent recursion package, and that was something that I felt this deck never "quite" had. Now, however, It had a fairly good recursion package along with the other pieces in place, and I have found that it allows me to make bold plays or take removal on the chin, as I can just bring things back. Especially with Endurance, being able to stop myself from going infinite with korvold and deck myself OR stop someone else from doing shenanigans for basically free is super good. Living Death is also my favorite boardwipe for the deck and I am happy its back, although I admit Dread return and the Ascendancy do require a little bit of set up or work.

Multi-Purpose Finisher Cards:

Tergrid, God of Fright  Flip, Brass's Bounty -------------------------------------> Zealous Conscripts, Splinter Twin:

So, admittedly, I was against these changes: With Korvold on the board, brass's bounty is basically a game finisher. And it was pointed out to me, this is why its kind of a problem in my build. If I don't win on that turn, I usually am just hated off the table due to the overwhelming advantage I will be in off the bounty. Tergrid is also only good if I am effecting my opponents... and sadly I have removed most of those effects, so with the exception of one VERY epic game finisher with my Deathhorde general ult.... She hasn't done a whole lot. Even her Lantern, which is also an infinite mana outlet to win, is very.. fragile. With these swaps. Splinter twin allows me to make tokens, and Zealous conscripts allows me to steal creatures. Together, Its a game finisher but even separate they are really good cards. Stealing creatures when sac outlets are on board is always strong, and the deck wants tokens to sac. Ive seen pretty consistent wins especially when I have just enough tutors to make this work.

Until next time my friends! I hope to keep playing, but I know it could be a while before this deck gets updated again, lol.
