Magda sent out barbecue invites to her best Dwarf bros from all corners of suburbia. They’ll know they’re headed in the right direction when they recognize the following landmarks (and smell the mouth watering aroma of those Ox of Agonasburgers, charred to perfection).

Mono means fairly straightforward calculations when building the land base. A couple utility lands and a whole bunch of basics are all we need.

•The Snow-Covered Mountain is our main source of . Frost Bite is about as close to a Lightning Bolt as we get in Standard, so to make the most out of it we need snow lands.

Castle Embereth reigns over the valley below; use it to buff our creatures when the time is right.

Dwarven Mine will usually enter untapped, and produce a dwarf creature token, handy to chump block with or otherwise tap for purposes detailed later on.

Treasure Vault is included as an alternate method to produce treasure tokens, but is never useless as most of our spells do require at least generic mana as part of their casting cost. A decent utility land we’d like to see once per game or so, thus 2 copies.

A killer cookout always draws the neighbors. Here’s a list of all our dwarf buddies who have RSVP’d.

Rimrock Knight brings some utility to the game in the form of his Adventure; use in combination with Sudden Breakthrough to ensure we don’t lose a key creature in a trade off. Cast him afterwards to start building up a dwarven presence.

Vault Robber synergizes nicely with our game plan. He ensures nothing goes to waste, as he can recycle a dead creature and turn it onto a treasure. Being a dwarf, he also enables Magda’s static ability to go off when we use his activated ability, getting a two-for-one discount on treasure tokens.

Plundering Barbarian opens up the option of generating another treasure token of our own, or smashing one of our opponent’s artifacts—works wonders against similar matchups.

Torbran, Thane of Red Fell really ups the ante. Bolstering the damage output of all our attacking creatures as well as Frost Bite, his real power is unlocked once we finally get to take advantage of Magda’s interesting text...

Anyone who’s ever emcee’d a cookout knows that it ain’t cheap. The food, drinks, paper plates & red cups, getting the grill up and running...Yeah, we’ll need some treasure tokens to cover the cost.

Magda, Brazen Outlaw is the cornerstone of our deck, and as such we need to sate her consuming greed. To that end we have a handful of ways to maximize production of these shiny little trinkets.

Treasure Vault, as mentioned above, can churn out as many tokens as we have the mana to spend. Quite handy, if we’re just a couple short.

Treasure Chest contains—wait for it—treasure tokens! Who would have thought. In actuality it could offer a few different results after a die roll, most of which are extremely beneficial. The odds of rolling that dreaded 1 are low enough to warrant inclusion.

Xorn kicks our token production into overdrive by adding 1 more each and every time we make a treasure. He’s a decent target for Sudden Breakthrough or Rimrock Knight too.

In all, we ought to have a fairly steady supply of treasure tokens accumulating across our opening turns. Some of our support spells listed below also help us out in this respect.

Like pickles on a burger or salt on french fries, these spells compliment and enhance what we’re striving for and make it that much more delectable.

Frost Bite acts as removal, slamming creature threats or problematic Planeswalkers for what will likely be a full 3 points of damage, considering our many snow lands.

Sudden Breakthrough is pseudo-protection, bestowing First Strike and an additional +2 to power to one of our creatures. The best defense is a good offense; take them out before they take you out. Oh, and we get a shiny little treasure token for our troubles!

Barge In can be played early to turn a feeble defensive boardstate into a surprisingly robust bulwark, or else held in reserve to pump up our post-Terror of the Peaks attack charge.

Seize the Spoils/Unexpected Windfall are for draw power; depending on how we’re situated for mana will dictate whether we get one or two treasure tokens as a side benefit. Either way, both are very useful spells.

Everyone’s here! We’ve got the grill fired up (Don’t worry, we use propane and propane accessories—No charcoal diamond here, I tell ya h’what!) and our dwarves brought the beer and chips.

Time to get this party started!

The goal is to have Magda, Brazen Outlaw in play along with a bunch of treasure tokens we’ve created over the course of a few turns. By sacrificing 5 of these sparkling diadems we earn the privilege of scouring our library for a dragon card to put immediately into play. Of course, we’ll search for Terror of the Peaks and commence with his triumphal entry.

From this point forward, each of our creatures entering the battlefield will deal damage equal to its power to a target of our choice. Make more treasure tokens, sac them to conjure up another Terror of the Peaks for 5 damage, and repeat the process two more times for increasing returns! And remember Torbran, Thane of Red Fell? Since the damage our dragons are outputting is coming from red sources, Torbran cranks up the heat. Not to mention the fact that with Magda in play all our other dwarves get +1/+0 to bolster our attack capabilities.

•Create treasure tokens with Treasure Vault, Treasure Chest, Vault Robber, Xorn, Sudden Breakthrough or our two draw spells.

•Cast Magda, Brazen Outlaw (and Torbran, Thane of Red Fell if possible), then sacrifice treasure tokens to put Terror of the Peaks into play.

•Make more treasure tokens, put more Terror of the Peaks into play, then follow up with traditional attack damage until the opponent is reduced to burnt and smoldering embers.

Infuriate, like Barge In, can help avert the death/removal of key pieces and also help push that game ending damage through.

Hoarding Ogre is an excellent treasure token generator, but at 4 mana it means Turn 5 at the earliest is when we can first make use of him. I’ve left him in the sideboard for now just in case it turns out we need him after some playtesting.

Shock as some removal of our own.

Dual Strike can combo off with previously mentioned spells, enhancing the results.

Fire Prophecy acts as a pseudo-Lightning Bolt/card draw spell.

”Total darkness awaits his treasures; A fire...will consume him; Calamity awaits any survivors...”
